Making purchases with your Magicband...

Hi Gang! It's been about six years since I've been to WDW and so much has changed! Gah!

Anyway, my mom and I will be taking my son who has a disability down there at the end of March. I'd like to make purchases using my Magicband and know there's a way to do this if you're buying merchandise but can you ALSO do this for food? In other words - can you buy EVERYTHING with your band?

Also - my mom and I will be making separate purchases. Can she buy things with her band which would then charge them to HER CC instead of mine?

If I'm repeating a question - or posting this in the wrong board - my apologies. I've read that you can make purchases - just wasn't sure HOW it's done exactly.

as long as you are staying on property, you can have each of your bands associated with your own CC, and make any sort of purchase in the park. Way too convenient!

I would recommend it putting a cc on file with the early check in, though. I did this when traveling with a friend a few years ago and, despite making it clear that her purchases should go on her cc, they were all charged to mine. It was a bit of a mess.

You can buy pretty much everything with your magic band. You can't buy balloons. Those have to be cash. Not sure if there's anything else that needs cash.

Some of the carts that sell the light-up things at night only take cash. Other than that we used our MB to charge everything.

If it's a push cart that is moving around you also need to use cash. Not out too often but you occasionally will see someone with drinks and little things wandering around the parade/fireworks especially during the ticketed parties in the fall/winter.

pretty much if the cast member is moving around or in a strange spot like middle of the crowd, you can use your band.

Each magicband has their own PIN# that is used. Even if you can't get her band to have it's own credit card, they keep track of who makes what purchase. You could go to registration desk at your resort every couple of days and ask for a print out of what has been put onto the room's account and then from there, figure out what she has put onto the account and she could pay that amount off with her own card. Just a plan B...just in case you can't do a different card. When we were there a few weeks ago, we didn't charge much to our account, so I just let it all get put onto my card the morning we checked out. The paper showed who made what charge. It didn't matter to us, really, but I thought that would be convenient for a larger group who would need to know that.

Also, like was mentioned above, the carts don't have the ability for the magic band most times, tho, we did find a cart on Main St. that had light up stuff before Wishes....but we really had to search for it. That was the only day (go figure) that we didn't carry a good bit of cash with us.

Is it each band or each MDE account that has their own pin?

It's each band. My PIN was different than my husband's, whose was different from my son's, whose was different than my daughter's. Not that our 7 and 8 year old bought anything on their own, but they did enjoy using their bands when we made purchases just so they felt "included". :D

I know you can request different bands to not get room charging options to stop kids from charging. Thanks for the info! BTW I'm 99% sure you can't have multiple credit cards.

We couldn't purchase anything if we didn't use our PIN. So, for people who don't want their kids to charge, just don't set up a PIN for the kids' bands. I set up our PINs through MDE. Our kids are 7 and 8, so it wasn't like they were going to charge something without us knowing it. :) ...but I could totally see people with kids old enough to wander parks on their own not wanting them to be able to make purchases.

same pin is used for meal plan and that's rather common.

We all had the same pin number, but when I got the email invoice at the end of the trip, it was detailed and showed which person had used their magic band to make the purchase. So I could tell what my son bought vs. what I bought or what my husband bought. So if you want, you can just put it all on one card and settle up with your Mom at the end of the trip if it's easier that way.

You can use multiple payment methods if you stop at the front desk to settle charges ahead of checkout. For longer stays, especially if everything is getting charged to the bands, you could even stop a couple of times a week to avoid having to look through one really long list at the end of the trip.

You CAN put different credit cards attached to different bands (my husband and I did it this summer)... aside from an issue with his band charging to his mother's room for one day (he was registered there as well for the night before our wedding) it worked perfectly.

When I travel with a buddy we always have separate credit cards on file with the hotel. One thing to note is that the Magic Bands do not charge to your Credit Card directly, the charges go on your room, then the hotel will use the CC on file to reconcile the charges. They will do this as certain amounts or days are reached or at the end of your stay if you don't hit those amounts. If you add a second CC, what they do is add a second room folio for the other guest. Then all their charges are reconciled on that folio (you will get two statements, though I think they are usually just emailed now). It really all works rather easily and the front desk can set this up quickly.
