I cannot find any invitations that I absolutely love. I was thinking about maknig my own. Has anyone done this before? Any tips? Any programs that I must have? I would love to make some samples if there are free sample programs online. TIA!!! :cloud9:

The only thing that I can think of would be to play around in adobe photoshop. You can download a free 30 day trial. Good luck!

i think there are plenty of brides on here that made their own invitations. All you need to make them simple is a simple graphic if you want and then a pretty font. then paper, glue, scissors, etc. you can get colored cardstock from a craft store in your wedding colors and there ya go. I knwo i made it sound easy but brides do it alot now, so I am sure there is someone on here who can help.

Laura is creative around here, wait till she reads the thread, she will help you:)

Haha that's funny. I was just about to say. You really should try and ask the ladies on the Creative board to help you with a design. They just put that design on pretty paper or veluim. There are so many ways to make invites. Maybe look at some online that you like and try to replicate them? I really like the simple ones. Cinderella Fan has also made some very pretty monograms for people. GL.

Thanks Lynn

This question had your name all over it Laura, lol
Ditto Laura about Cinderella Fan. She made me a beautiful monogram. Here is what it looks like:

I recieved an invitation yesterday and they took and engagement pic, and used it as an invitation.

I made my own invitations, and I got SOOOO many compliments on them. No one even could tell I made them myself.

I bought plain ivory card stock invitations at Target that had a gold deckle edge. Then I went to a craft store and saw they offered vellum invitations with a gold ribbons to attach. I cut the vellum so it was slightly smaller than the card stock invitations from Target. On the Target invitations, I printed an outline of Cinderella's castle that I had traced myself and scanned on the computer. Then I printed the actual wording on the vellum. I attached it to the card stock, and voila! Gorgeous invitations that normally would have cost hundreds of dollars, for a FRACTION of that cost! They really were beautiful - the castle in the background, and the words on top. Never seen anything like it anywhere.

Wow so many interesting ideas!

Colleen, the picture that is your avator is the one that I wanted to use! I was thinking of fading it somehow and then have fancy writing on the top with some vellum over it or a ribbon on top. Or maybe I could keep the castle dark and put the vellum over it with writing? What do you think?

You could go into Word and make the castle a watermark. That would fade it. I would fad it some or your lettering might not show. All of the invitation kits have great instructions and sites to get templates and wording.

I also made my own invites and have pictures at home I can email you. Just PM me. I'm a scrapbooker and cardmaker and *love* to do it so I would be more than willing to help you with ideas.

OT: One day if money was *no* object, I'd turn this into a full time job. Making handmade cards and invites. :-)

I made my own invitations for both our Disney World wedding and our home reception. I am a graphic designer so that helps, but you should be able to come up with something fairly easy on your own even using microsoft word.

My Disney World invitations. They are fairly elaborate and involved a lot of cutting of different papers to layer. I made 20 of these.

My Home reception invitations. They were kind of a booklet style with a map and other information on the second page. I made 80 or so of these.

We didn't make our own invitations (b/c I wanted the embossed lettering), but I did make our own thank you cards. I always make my own cards, though, because it is difficult for me to plunk down $4 for a card...lol! Plus I like doing those things. I made the thank you cards to lower the invite costs, too...but then we had custom reception cards done, so it probably all evened out...um, sorry, I'm rambling now...

For those that did make you own cards, how time consuming was it? Did it take a while to figure out exactly how to do it, then become easier once you got the hang of it? I would love to make my own, but I'm afraid that because I'll to make so many (we're not positive but guessing around 200) it will take forever...any advice? Thanks:goodvibes

That is about how many we are having, so that is a great question to ask!

I also plan on doing my own invitation I asked pat as the creative board to do a design for me. Sorry I can't post it havent worked out how - but I love it. and I also downloaded the disney font (waltograph) I am going to use that for the lettering.

Thanks Laura and Lynn for the compliments! :goodvibes

I designed my own invite, and Jen with Sassy designs completed everything for me. She is just amazing. If you are nervous about making your own invites for that amount of people, check her website out. http://www.sassydesignco.com

I can't say more wonderful things about her, and she didn't cost me an arm and a leg. She is so great to work with....

Let me know if you would like any help - I am more than happy to help another bride. :thumbsup2
