End of January 2007 there will be 7 of us going (5 adults and 2 children - 7 and 9).
We have been planning on renting DVC points, adding tickets and dining plan. This seemed good until I realized that EVERYTHING could change with the new packages/plans etc. Tickets could be different....dining plan could be different or not even exist (God forbid! ;) )
rates, packages and plans OH MY. I am making myself nuts.

Now I don't know what to do. I wouldn't be so stressed but it is my brother, SIL and mother's first trip and I want it to be great. Without the dining plan I think they will be freaked out by what I call disney-nomics...that is, the belief that it is ok to pay 30 bucks for a breakfast buffet with Mickey! Am I being irrational? :scared: Is it too much to ask to have a clue about prices, plans etc 7 months out?

Advice???

My real debate is if I should rent dvc points for bcv or hold out and see what the package will be for AKL. If the package is not good, it will probably be too late for BCV, if I go ahead with points, I would not be able to switch.

I suppose there is also the possibility that whatever the meal or "wishes" or whatever add-ons are out there won't be available to dvc renters.

Decisions, decisions.

I don't think you will be able to beat a room at the Beach Club in January compared to DVC rates. January is the *best* month for DVC. If your dates are set, I would go ahead and "pull the trigger" and put any thoughts of a better deal aside. The think the only thing that would make a difference would be "free dining". However, the "free dining" did not extend past the end of the summer/start of the fall last year and I don't expect it to resurface in January. So, if you're waiting for free dining, IMO you'll be waiting until next August.

Book your vacation and chill out until your ARs come available next month ;).

Oh, thank goodness...I found someone with the exact same problem I'm having!!!

I switch daily in my thoughts - one day I'm planning on renting points, the next I'm convinced I should hold off and see what rates/packages they come up with. One day I'm convinced that just once, we're going to stay at the BoardWalk, the next day I think does it really matter? We hardly spend any time at the resort. CSR is fine.

Anyway, I'm sorry - I can't offer words of wisdom or advice - I just thought you might appreciate knowing that you are definitely not alone in your struggles!!

I just wanted to add something. If you stay for a week (including the more expensive weekend) at BWV, VWL or BCV in a studio you would need 104 points. At the going rate of $11 per point, you would spend $1144 on that week. That amount includes 11% in taxes. So, your "pre-tax" amount would be $1030, or $147 per night. That's dirt cheap, IMO. You *might* be able to get Wilderness Lodge for that price, but you will not be able to touch Boardwalk or Beach Club for $150! Plus, you get microwave in your room and the couch folds up to make more room during the day. The minus is there is no maid service, but as a DVC member I rarely miss it.

Robin...you are absolutely right. I have run my numbers a gazillion times and keep coming back to renting. My DH and I have decided that we will not go on vacation and sleep in a double bed anymore. Heck, we sometimes wake each other up in a king :rotfl:

Even at AKL or wilderness lodge it is more $$$ and without the added benefit of location. Additionally, with my brother, his wife and my mom coming along we are actually getting a 2 bdr and a studio. At AKL we would need a total of three rooms and it would cost ALOT more.

It appears that I have convinced myself about the BCV!

you are already into the seven month timeframe where any DVC member can use their points at any DVC resort. If you plan to rent a reservation from a member, I would advise you to lock in you reservation very quickly. If you wait too long, you might not be able to get BCV.

if you are waiting on the dinning plan - I won't.... especially in Jan - WDW both for WDW and DVC resorts has been know not to renew in until Feb (WDW) and DVC (april)....

I am hopping for Jan for everyone this year - but so far no response. the people or person who makes this decision knows that everyone is waiting....
