Making Her Wishes Come True: Surprise Proposal Trip!

Loving the plans! BOG sounds like a great option since you can't get CG. I love the pictures I've seen of the ballroom and the other wing. Looks so authentic to the movie! I hope you get to try the gray stuff, I had no idea this was just an occasional treat. Ahhh, the things you learn on the Dis!

HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS/JIKO

Third day in the parks and we will be visiting the only park we haven’t been to yet. No EMH this day for Hollywood Studios but it’s projected to be the slowest park this day as other parks have EMH and special stuff going on. This is the best day to hit this park for us because we’re going to want to spend a full day here without leaving as there is no easy way to hit it for half a day and then hop to another park.

First up will be Toy Story Mania as I’m sure it will be for a lot of people. We will probably grab a fastpass and then get in line so that we can be assured of riding it twice. Twice is probably about all we will need on this ride too. It’s fun and I enjoy the gaming aspect of it, it’s not one of Hannah’s favorites though. Right after we do that we will head over to the other big two and get on Tower of Terror right away:

This is easily my favorite ride at Disney and I could ride it over, and over, and over etc. The storyline along with the well done theme and then the ride itself is just so put together. There is a chance we could use another of our FP on this or FP later in the day but I think the priority will be to FP Rockin’ Rollercoaster if we can because it always seems to have a longer line than Tower of Terror does.

After we hit the big three the goal will be to just fit in everything else that we want to do which shouldn’t be so hard to do considering how much time we should have an how not busy the park will be. I’m excited to try and watch a show or two on Sunset BLVD by the people of Hollywood. Those guys always crack me up with their shows so seeing one is a must. Another must is the Beauty and Beast live on stage show as I promised Hannah we would see that last year and the timing never worked out. I felt really bad when we left and never saw it so I’m making it my #1 priority after we ride the big three in this park to make sure we do it. We will probably break for lunch at my favorite quick service eatery: Pizza Planet. I just love the theme of the place and I don’t know of too many good quick service places in Hollywood studios, although another option is the places on Sunset by Tower of Terror.

Dinner is at 6:20p at Jiko: The Cooking Place. I told Hannah the next time we visit Disney we would try some new things, so that’s exactly why this place is in the plans. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the food here so I’m excited to try something in a flavor that I typically wouldn’t try. Plus the setting in the Animal Kingdom Lodge couldn’t be better.

Depending on how quickly dinner goes (we’re not going to rush) we MAY have time to get back to Hollywood Studios to see Fantasmic at 8:30. I don’t have this in the schedule, but if we could pull this off along with seeing Illuminations the day before (also not in the schedule) then we would be in really good position for having all of the night time shows out of the way in our first three days which would reduce the stress for the rest of the trip.

Jiko is a great choice. It is my DH's favorite. I enjoy it as well. The braised beef ribs are fantastic. I highly recommend. :thumbsup2

Thank you! I've heard a lot of great things about it, yet it's still the reservation that I'm most worried about because it's a type of cuisine that neither of us has really had before. Thank you for saying "braised beef ribs" because now my mouth is watering

We're down to 61 days left!!! :goodvibes

New places scare me too! I don't want to pay for a meal that looks good but doesn't taste good to me. I've been looking into trying one new place this trip but nothing really pops out at me. Wooo to 61 days! Almost there :) doing a good job at keeping secrets still? ;)

Exactly my thought, especially at a high dollar place like Jiko.

What kinds of foods are you guys looking for to try? I might have a suggestion or two to throw your way to check out.

Keeping the secret is going really well right now. She is 100% convinced it is going to happen when we take the family trip to Disneyland in January. So, that is making it really easy. She keeps saying, "I know that's when it's going to happen." and I always answer that she's wrong but I have this huge smile on my face (because she's wrong) and she takes it as that she's gotten it right. It's working so well.

Ah we will be in Hollywood Studios that day also! Not surprisingly, we have similar plans for the morning! I'm pretty terrible at remembering faces but I'll be keeping an eye out for a happily newly engaged couple! :rotfl2:

We are big meat people, Id like to give Ohana a try but i cant seem to get lucky and find a reservation for dinner. We have two buffet ressies and im trying to find something for a sit down.

Its nice that 1) she has no idea about this trip, which if she did she would probably guess it happening then 2)that there is another trip plan so you can go with it when she says thats when it will happen :cool1:

That's very cool. We should be wearing our "newly engaged" buttons and I'll more than likely have a Reds hat on so be on the lookout for us!

This is the first time I've ever had the desire to eat at 'Ohana and it's mainly because of this forum and the fact that it's the perfect way to get ready to see the fireworks from across the Lagoon. What park/area are you looking for a sit down in? I'd really like to give ideas if I could to try and help.

It's very helpful to me that she has no idea that a trip even exists because I knew that if she had even a hint that we were going to be going anywhere this secret would be much harder to keep. I need to start planning the hints I'm going to drop though since those will start in about a month. :cool1:

This is actually both the reasons why i would like to try it!
Id like to try a monorail resort, something easy to access. Really wanted to try California Grill :(

Woohoo!!! once the hints start coming hopefully the days come faster:cool1:

I really wanted California Grill for our second night too, especially since we are both into sushi. (In fact that's what is for dinner tonight :lmao: ) I think we will survive with BOG though. I know she will love eating there.

I sure hope you're right about the days coming faster once the hints start to drop. I'm going to just 'accidentally' leave an absence request from her school laying around with the dates of our trip requested on it so that she can find it and start to get excited.

Thats the downside of planning a surprise trip, you have no one to get excited with. Except for us :rotfl:

This is true, but keeping the excitement down I think has actually helped the time move faster. I have noticed that I've been checking this site along with my day count more often lately though... which is NOT helping.

Same here....i started a ptr of my own to help the time pass, lets see if it works

Wow, where have I been? lol. I missed an update!

Your DHS plans look a lot like ours. TSMM with a side of FP, followed by ToT and RnRC, probably another FP when it's time. We have to try the new Star Tours, and my personal favorite, TGMR, then finally some shows. I think we'll skip B&B this time, we did it on our last trip and it's a longer show. I'd like to see the Little Mermaid show again, we haven't done that since 2005. And Muppets, since this will be our last chance (assuming it goes when the new Star Wars Land arrives).

Jiko sounds fun. If it's anything like Boma, I think you'll love it. That was Matt and I's favorite Disney restaurant so far. He's a meat lover, so that was a big pull. But, we also tried some of the more unusual fare and really enjoyed it. There was a soup (squash or something, it was orange and creamy anyway), mmmm mmmm mmmm. I still think about it. :rotfl: I could have eaten that for my entire meal.

And, of course, Jiko and AKL just fits the theme of your proposal to perfection! One question? Are you keeping each day, each meal, a secret during the trip too? Or will you fill her in on the plans once you get past the proposal part of the trip? Not sure I ever asked you that... :confused3

Good Luck with your Hints and planning, it will all be here before you know it. :thumbsup2

That's the thing about MGM Studios, everyone's plans look pretty much the same and there is no way to really avoid it.

When it came to deciding where we would be eating on this day it was between Boma and Jiko as I knew we wanted to try the cuisine but wasn't sure if I wanted to do the buffet thing or not. In the end I heard more good things about Jiko than Boma and I wanted us to have a nice sit down dinner this night since we'll be in the same park all day.

I think once the proposal happens I'm going to let her in on most of the details about what is to come the rest of the trip at least as far as parks are concerned, but I think I'll keep the food mostly secret until it comes time to eat simply because I have a few in there that she would NOT guess that I picked for us to eat at, like Chefs De France and Jiko.

I've also heard great things about Jiko, and I think a sit-down meal is just a little nicer/more romantic than a buffet. Good choice! And I like your plan to keep some of the plans to yourself. It makes the entire trip special and different than your typical vacation. Can't wait to hear more!

That was my thought process as well. I mean we're going down there to get engaged and then to celebrate that engagement, why not do it in style?

Unfortunately I only have two days worth of plans to post so I'll only be able to drag this out for two more weeks... then what am I going to do? :faint:

Do it while you can! That's what we are doing. Splurging on the little things because who knows when we will come back.

In 2 weeks it will almost be August and then you can start taking about your hint ideas with us and also tell us Hannah's reaction to your hints! You can do it :)
