Making Her Wishes Come True: Surprise Proposal Trip!

You are sooo evil, leaving her guessing like that for so long. I love it! :lmao:

Looking forward to the rest of the plans!!

I have loved Earl of Sandwich since I first had it a couple trips ago, it's become a MUST DO every trip.

You call me evil, I call myself just a mastermind ;)

The funny thing is that just this past week she has started to hint that she thinks she knows when the proposal is going to happen. I got really nervous when she said that until I asked when she thought it was and she said "In December at Disneyland". :cool1:

Little does she know she is partially right, but that trip to Disneyland will be our second Disney trip this year. :thumbsup2

He in an evil genius. She's one lucky lady.

This is the first time EVER I've been able to pull something off like this. Kind of proud of myself.

Manical laugh, Manical laugh!

Sorry I've not been responding much, but I am happily following along.

Also, I love The Muppet Movie so thanks for making me think of it today! *maniacal laugh

I love how you're making sure to plan every detail to keep the surprise intact! :thumbsup2

And your point about not telling her about the park days because she'll figure it out when you don't tell her about the Wild Africa Trek is so true and something I would never have thought of!:goodvibes

ANIMAL KINGDOM/WILD AFRICA TREK/PROPOSAL DAY!

Part 1

tol487983LARGE.jpg

THIS IS THE DAY!! AHHHHHH! All that excitement that I got writing the travel day plans has now worn off and now I’m anxious. This will easily be the most important day of the trip and it’s our first day in the parks! I’m actually very happy that it’s so early on in our trip, that way it will hopefully catch her off guard and then I can get the nervousness out of the way and relax and enjoy the rest of our vacation.

Animal Kingdom as EMH this day which plays perfectly into my hands as a planner and for the surprise. On our last visit we did Animal Kingdom on our first day as well, so I’m hoping she will just think that this is part of the pattern to follow the EMH. On our last trip when we got there for EMH we were able to do most of the park by about noon, which was awesome to avoid the crowds so convincing her to wake up early to shouldn’t be hard.
The park opens at 8am and our Wild Africa Trek isn’t till 8:45 so I’m hoping that we will be able to get in a ride on Everest before we have to check in for the Trek at about 8:30. If we get there early enough we should be able to ride it once easily and maybe even twice. However, I’m not going to push my luck here as being on time for the Trek is 1000x more important than getting to ride Everest a second time. Either way, the check in for the Trek is over by the Tusker House, which just happens to be perfectly between Everest and Kilamanjaro Safari’s which is where she will think we are headed next until we take an unexpected turn to go check in. muahahahaha

I’m trying to decide now if I want to give away that I’ve planned this Trek from the beginning OR if I want to try and slip in another white lie along the lines of those false clues I would have given her. I somewhat want to make up a fake “Congratulations” card or something that says we’ve been chosen to go on a Trek for free and just pull it out when she goes to the bathroom. This could get difficult when I go to check in though they will have been expecting me. Of course I could run this all by the staff at the Trek to let them know this is what the plan is. Hmmmm

The Trek I know is going to be amazing. I’ve heard great things from a lot of people, a few negatives but mostly positives, about the experience that they had on the Trek. She is VERY adventurous and loves animals so I know she is going to enjoy the heck out of it even before I propose. I’m going to include a couple pictures of what the Trek is like below:

Those are a couple pictures showing you exactly what we will be dealing with. Basically we will be on a backstage tour of the Kilamanjaro Safari ride getting an up-close and personal look at the Animals. Not only do you do the excursion part where you’re climbing everywhere, you also get to ride in a jeep much like the Safari ride, only it’s open air so you can move around and get a better view of the animals as you ride by. All of this is happening with Disney tour guides who will be talking to us about the animals and teaching us stuff we never knew about them.
One of the cooler parts I think (and where I will propose) is at the end when they feed us lunch. We will be brought to a large wooden cabana type structure where we will eat African cuisine in a picnic style lunch pail. The best part is it’s pretty much all healthy stuff and will most definitely be something I’ve never tried before and delicious. But while/after we eat we will get to watch the animals roam the safari in front of us. Some pictures below for reference:

Before we eat though I will be proposing! The guides have offered to pull everyone to one side of the platform or the other so that Hannah and I will have more privacy which will be nice because I want this moment to be as much about us as possible. I have a pretty good idea what I’m going to say, but I also know I’m going to fumble over these words and it won’t be perfect. The Trek is about 3 hours long, so by 11am on the first day of our trip we will be engaged!

It sounds excellent!!! If i were her my brain would be all over the place when she finds out about the trek. It's good to do the proposal so early in the trip that way both of you can relax!

When you are proposing ill be getting on ME on my way to POR!

OK so I should plan to be in AK on that monday morning and on the safari, around 11 and looking for every platform around! It is so exciting you are able to do this for her, and for yourself as well. The memories this will create!

Yea I'm really hoping that while we're on the Trek she will be able to focus on the Trek and enjoying it instead of having her mind going everywhere wondering if/when I'm going to propose.

I agree about getting it out of the way. I was thinking about doing it later but then I realized that I would just be nervous the whole trip if I didn't get it out of the way.

Sure! That would be funny to see someone there who had read about it one here beforehand. I'm extremely excited about the memories this is going to create! pixiedust:

It really sounds like a great plan. I hope you can keep the Trek a secret as long as possible. Maybe only tell her about it as you are walking up to it.

Sounds like a great plan! I think you are right to get the proposal in early so you can relax and enjoy the rest of your vacation. And, of course, you need some sort of t-shirt or mickey ears to wear for the rest of the trip. ::yes::

Yea I'm definitely not going to say anything until we get right in front of where we need to go to check in. She will have no idea it's coming which will be a nice surprise.

Funny you mention that about the t-shirts. We both REALLY love the movie UP! so I'm thinking of going with these.

Oh my goodness I love those shirts!!!! We love UP too. It's my second favorite movie, nemo is of course my number one

Aw I'm so excited for you! I think it's awesome that the proposal is gonna be on the first day. That way you won't be worrying about the surprise the whole trip and you get to enjoy the rest of the trip as an engaged couple! :cool1:

I feel like maybe it would be good to tell her about the trek ahead of time that way she won't suspect that you're gonna propose on it? :confused3 Either way though, even if she gets somewhat suspicious, I'm sure she'll be totally taken aback when you do it!

Those Up shirts are beyond adorable! If I see anyone walking around the parks wearing them while we're there, I'll know it's you two! :rotfl:

I love the Up shirts! That's the perfect choice!

I wish my husband could find the love for Up, but he's too much like Carl to really enjoy it. He hates sad movies (because he's a softie, but don't tell him I said that... lol) so he just couldn't get into a movie like Up where the main character is grieving for the love of their life. :sad1:

But I think Up is an amazing movie. I'm also a huge fan of WallE. :upsidedow

Can't wait to hear more of your plans!

Yea I stumbled upon these shirts a few months ago actually and new right away that I wanted them for us. I just needed to decide when I was going to get them and use them for (birthday, Christmas, anniversary). I finally pulled the trigger on getting the shirts and the Photopass + last night so they will be delivered to my office in the next two weeks. :goodvibes

Yea proposing on the first day pretty much became a must for me after I saw Animal Kingdom had EMH that day. After I booked it all I realized that it was actually a blessing that I could get it out of the way early. Now we can wear our 'Just Engaged' pins around the rest of the trip too. :)

To tell her or not to tell her about the Trek is probably the biggest issue I have right now in deciding how I want to play it. If I don't tell her I think she will be suspicious of it immediately. However, if I tell her before we even get the park that morning I feel like it could cut down on it. Either way it's almost a surprise within a surprise, which is why I feel like holding my cards as close to my chest as I can is a good idea. Maybe? :confused3

Hannah and I feel in love UP! the first time we saw it and we still watch it on a constant basis. I'm so excited to have these shirts coming to us so we can wear them during the trip! :D

Just found your PTR and have finally caught up. I am so excited for you!

Here is my suggestion. Find a way to make it seem like WDW gave you the Wild Trek passes. Maybe have the resort put a letter in your room that says they are offering complimentary treks to get feedback to improve the experience or something. That way she knows about it but she thinks it is last minute, so she won't suspect the proposal on the Trek.

I feel like if you go to check in for the trek and you haven't told her about it, she will instantly think, this is it, he is going to propose. But maybe that is just me.

Wow, you read this whole thing!? That's impressive! Thank you for stopping in! :cheer2:

The part that you said that I have made bold is exactly what I'm worried about. I'm wondering if I could make up a 'fake' letter that says something along the lines of "We've chosen you and already added your names to the reservation at the Trek" then that could keep it a secret that I didn't plan it. However, the problem is that she would say something like "I can't believe we get to do this for free" to the Trek people and their looks might give it away that it's not really free. This is really a rock and hard place conundrum for me right now.

Hi :) I've mostly been lurking here, but I've really enjoyed all your updates!

I did have a thought on this... Do you have a relative that could be in on it too and help you out? Maybe they pretend like you were sharing your itinerary with them, and then they booked the trek as a gift for you both? That way your gf thinks its a surprise for both of you? This person could then present you with the surprise and a "gift certificate" (that you can make ahead of time) maybe a week or so before your trip? Just a thought that could help throw her off a bit :)

Good luck to you! And, I think it is SO wonderful that you're working so hard to make this proposal special for your girlfriend! She will love it!!

I love this idea! I've been planning this for a long time so my parents know all about it. I could have them 'gift' the Trek to us right as we're about to leave! pixiedust:

I like the letter idea, but you can have it from your parents and get it "delivered" to your room monday morning, that way she knows it wasnt free but thinks its a surprise for both of you. I love to plan but id go pretty crazy if i was in your shoes
