I've posted other questions on transfers and use years and received quite a bit of helpful information thanks to everyone on the board. So one more to clear things up...
Not sure if this part matters, but I have an April UY. For sake of this discussion, let's say I receive a transfer of August 2009 UY points in June 2009 (from everything I've heard and read a transfer can be made before the 1st day of the transferors UY). I understand that I can't take a trip using these points prior to August 1, 2009 and I also know that transferred points can't be borrowed, but I just want to make sure I understand what constitutes "borrowing".
Assume I want to take a trip January 15, 2010 at the home resort of the transferred points. The 7 month window for everyone to book at this date would open July 15, 2009. Since I want to book at the home resort, presumably I get the reservation advantage of being able to book prior to July 15, 2009.
If I received the transfer in June 2009, would I be able to make my reservation (at the home resort of the points) for January 2010 right away even though the transferred points aren't "good" until August 1, 2009? Or would I have to wait until August 1st to make a ressie?
I was thinking that this would work given that the reservation I'm interested in falls within the use year of the points rec'd via the transfer, but maybe I'm missing something. It would seem to me that people often book at the 11-month window which could very well be prior to the beginning of their UY from which the points will be used. But maybe there is something quirky with transfers that I don't know about.
In simple (?) terms, would you define borrowing as, "on the day of check in, you will not have points available from the current UY so you need to take them from the next year"?
Thanks for your assistance helping us learn all of this stuff.
