Making 1st DVC reservation - advice please

We are new owners and can't use banked points before they expire. I looked into renting out the points but tbh I found the whole thing daunting (plus the exchange rate for US Dollar - Sterling is rubbish and likely to get worse)
Anyway, I offered them to a friend as a gift but would really appreciate an idiots guide to making the reservation pleeeease and thanks for any help

Once you are in the reservation system it is fairly easy.

Once you log in go under "Plan Vacations"
Next - Book Online - Disney Vacation Club Resorts
Choose traveling party
Choose room type - you don't have to select this, if you don't it will just show you all the room types available.
Next you select the time frame you want to book.
Selecting Resort -- If at or under the 7 month mark you can choose all of the resorts. If still before 7 months just click the box for your home resort.
Then scroll to the bottom to "check availability"

It will take a few seconds to show you what is available. From there you should be able to go ahead and book. If after you book and you have questions just call MS or get on a chat (usually much quicker) just to confirm you did everything right for your first time booking.

You will need the names of everyone traveling and an address so that they will receive luggage tags and magic bands. You will be able to give your friend the reservation # and they should be able to link the reservation to their my disney account.

Now availability will really depend on when you are looking to book, so hopefully your friend is flexible and you can book something.
