I have huges pores and very oily skin. :headache: I don't wear a liquid foundation as it's just too much for me. I've been using Everyday Minerals for years now and have loved it for the product quality and the price, but just the other day I opened a new one and used it--and broke out in hives:confused:. Now I'm looking for something else. I have pretty good skin (other than the pores/oiliness) and use Neutrogena cleansing and moisturizers. I don't need heavy coverage--just a little around the eyes these days. SPF is really tough for me to use on my face because it's so heavy. My forehead/nose are always shiny--no matter what shine-free product I have tried.

Anyone have similar skin and found a solution?

Thanks

I use Clarisonic... I can't believe how great my skin is now. It's pricey but its worth the investment. If you buy it from QVC you get to try it for 30 days...

Clarisonic Facial Cleansing System

It has tons of good reviews!

Oh and foundation I use Laura Gellers Primer then use here baked foundation.

But using the Clarisonic has helped me the most.

Ditto the Clarisonic in combination with Cetaphil cleanser (or a non-foaming cleanser of your choice)!

And this is going to make you laugh but we actually had a fairly lengthy thread about it ages ago - use a foam makeup sponge to put some Milk of Magnesia on the shine-prone spots. (See, I told you you'd laugh... :lmao: )

In all seriousness, it works great - I've been using it at bedtime to control breakouts and during the daytime when it's that time of the month as my shine level tends to go up then. Get the generic MofM from Walmart or wherever (the blue bottle, unflavored), shake the heck out of it, put some on a foam sponge and swipe it on your face. It'll dry translucent and will control shine for HOURS. If it leaves a chalky residue on your face, wipe gently with a tissue. Put on your makeup of choice as usual.

It'll only cost you a few dollars to try and I think you'll be surprised at how well it controls shine.

For makeup, I use Laura Mercier silk creme foundation as I love the way it evens out skin tone and one tube lasts a good 8 months. A drop the size of half a pea covers a decent area on your face and blends beautifully.

Good luck!

There's a product line by philosophy called "Never Let them see you Shine." It is a cleanser and also a face primer. You can reapply to face primer throughout the day, even over foundation. Though I haven't because I haven't been using foundation lately. I found that wearing the right colors has helped my skin look more even and it helps me control break outs to wear less makeup.

laura guellar face putty or philosophy supernatural then your choice of foundation or powder.

I have the same skin. I also have rosacea. I like the powder foundations because I can put on a little to just even out when my skin is behaving, or I can build it up a bit for more coverage when I'm having a flare up. I use Sephora Powder Foundation. It's $20 and lasts me about 3 months per compact. I used to use a similar product by Mac, but found that it was heavier and seemed to collect in my pores. This one doesn't do that.

I have rosecea, too, using prescription metronidazole has made a huge difference in oiliness and my pores and breakouts. It's generic so it's pretty cheap. My derm said so many people with an oily t zone have rosecea and don't realize it.

I like the bare minerals matte foundation, I don't get as oily as I did with their regular one

I would use a foundation primer (even if you won't be using liquid foundation). If you go to Ulta or Sephora, the primers can get a tad expensive, but something I found that works very well (you can google it) is Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder-Gel. It's in the isle with the other Monistat products. Apply this over your regular moisturzier and then apply your powder. Primers really help mattifying your face.

I have redness around my nose and an oily t-zone. I use my primer, use a loose powder around my whole face, concealer where I need it (under my eyes, cover any blemishes, and around my nose) and then one more layer of powder and I'm all set.

MyDizneyBoyz recommendation of the milk of magensia is a good one. I use this occasionally and it works really well for controling your oil.

I use MOM, too. So inexpensive compared to primer. Just have to be careful to do a thin layer. A few times I've looked up in the car mirror and noticed white splotches

I have used MoM before--it does work, but I found white splothches. i don't use a liquid make-up, only powder-based, and it didn't cover. I should give it another go.

$20 for 3 months isn't bad at all. I need to make a trip to Sephora,I think.

Are you prone to breakouts? I don't get very many, but I'd be afraid the gel would clog up my pores.

Thanks, everyone!
So, have any of you had success keeping the shininess down at WDW--in July?:rolleyes1

I'm going to check out the Clairsonic. It's a bit pricey. Has anyone used the Neutrogena Wave? I was thinking I could try as a cheaper alternative. Or are they completely different?

I got the Never Let Them See You Shine by Philosophy from Sephora. I have a stand alone JCPenney's very close to my house...Sephora is in it.

May I add Clinique's Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector. Some times it's all I use (after a SPF moisturizer) with blotting sheets (I usually use Shisedo ones) throughout the day.

CLARISONIC! CLARISONIC! CLARISONIC!

i've been using it for about 2 months now with a normal brush and i can't say enough about what it's done for my complexion. i saw my mom 2 weeks ago and she said "you look so pretty, i can't tell what's different about you". i use a salcylic acid based gel cleanser because i am acne prone, but the Clarisonic has really done wonders on tightening up my pores since it cleans out all of the junk.

Yes, I agree. I NEVER found anything that helped, but then I bought Philospohy's Microdermabrasion wash, and HOPE IN A BOTTLE moisturizer is the absolute BEST!!!!

Pricey but so worth it.

For make up I use SMASHBOX Halo. Pricey as well ,but I never wore makeup becasue I am SUPER oily, until I found this product.

There is a soap you can get - at spas etc. for oily skin - LOVE it - called Bioelements.

For pore minimizer - I use Dr. Brant Pore No More - it takes a couple times getting used to it - but i Love it - wont go out without it now....

i use bare escentuals had havn't had any problems they are mineral make up too if you go to any sephora store they will put it on you for free so you can see how you react to it before you buy too!

I just bought Dr. Brandt's Pores No More set from Sephora. I've only been using it for a week and already, I notice a difference! I have huge pores too, so this set has been a lifesaver.

The face wash is amazing! My skin feels so clean and refreshed.
The Vacuum Cleaner is my FAVORITE!! It helps clean out your pores (not right away, but after using it for a week, I see a huge difference!)
The pore matte is great for covering up pores, but doesn't clog them.:thumbsup2

I also recommend Clinique's acne mask. It's great and helps to pull out the oil and gunk from your skin. :D
