Hello, helpful ladies! My fiance and I are thisclose to our 8 month mark and I'm getting so excited!! Even though I'm not particularly crafty, I thought I'd try to make our invitations. We looked around some stationary stores and I didn't particularly like any of the options. What websites did you use for inspiration? Where did you get the stationary? I checked Michael's but I thought their invitations looked kind of generic. Any tips for someone who's not very handy with a glue gun? I'd like to incorporate fall colors.

Any ideas on how or where I can get started?

Thank you! :goodvibes

Remember you can do anything to the generic ones. Add pics, ribbons, embelishments (sp?). Just do a search for wedding invitations to get some ideas.

You'll never believe where I found a fantastic selection of invitations. Super Walmart. Yup. Super Walmart. Don't know if you have one near you (They are all over the place in the N.E. USA.

Congradulations!

Check out some vendors on eBay. If you have a solid enough idea that can be explained through email, they should be able to make it for you. Also ask if they can send you a sample before they make the entire order. That way if you don't like something, it can be changed. We used Bridal & Baby Expressions and the website is www.bridalandbabyexpressions.com.

Check out FineStationery.com they have beautiful invitations and you can get some great ideas as well..

you can alos check out your local scrapbook store for invitations or paper..check the phone book

but i agree....its easy to dress up the plain stuff....just use your imagination or copy it form a picture you find...kinda like those decorating shows that do a room for 1/2 the price of the original design....if they can do it with furniture, im sure you can do it with wedding invitations;)

good luck & keep us updated

My advice is keep it simple. The fact you are considering this gives me confidence you can do this. Enlist a crafty friend for help with a design, and you will be fine. I bought the invitations, but did our response cards, directions, all the labels for everything (doesn't sound like a lot, but that was the biggest job), table cards, etc... Buy extra supplies so you can mess up and practice a few times.

Thank you all so much for the leads and the advice! Irish Cinderella, I've now spent hours on my gatsby and I'm going to spend way too much money ordering samples.

Smoof, thank you for the words of encouragement. You certainly did a lot!!

Smi727, I will definitely check out ebay. Thank you.

If you guys get a chance, I'd love to see any pictures of your invites, response cards, etc. I really like the idea of adding a crystal or something simple to pep up otherwise boring stationary.

I can't believe I'm going to try this! I don't think I'd ordinarily consider it except you guys are so wonderful and helpful. Many thanks to all of you who responded. I'll let you know how it goes. :thumbsup2
