Make it go AWAY!!!!!

I've been here since 2003 (I changed my user name a while back, no real reason, just wanted a change). I got here not too long before the old DB got closed.

I do wish we could still have political debates, there were a lot of good conversations between thoughtful and informed posters. Yes, it could get a little nasty, but for me that's what made it fun!

That said, the people that run the boards get to make the rules, at the end of the day it's their sand box and we are just guests invited over to play. I don't post or even open as many threads as I used to, but it's still a fun and interesting place to hang out. And I agree, it's the best site for all things Disney, and isn't that the maint point to begin with? :)

Another fave...Deb! :)

Another one of my faves too! And you, Mare, and you too, Linda. :wave2: I hate to participate in naming people because I could never remember everyone, and I hate leaving anyone out. Forgive me, fellow old-timers!

I sometimes wonder if the reason the Dis was so great back in the day is because the internet and message boards were brand new. In our naivete, it was so much fun, but over time, things happened here to spoil the fun--like rampant thread hijackings, for example. It seemed that whenever I would try to post here in 2005, every thread got turned into, "it's happy hour! Ha ha! Have a drink!" That got real old, real quick. I came back after that nonsense died down, but not everyone else did.

Yours is one of the friendships I return here to continue, Dan. :)

Hope you enjoy your trip to D.C., Dan. May the weather and travel gods smile kindly on you and Mrs. Murphy. :sunny:

And please send my love to Judi. :flower3: Of those who I wish could be un-banned here, it is the real Dis Snoopy I'd most want to see back.
Thanks, Janice. And that would be nice, no?

....Hey Dan...I treasure your friendship beyonds words....One day soon we'll do a day at WDW again!.....And yes, Snoopy... :sad1: Spent a very fun weekend with her once in PF, TN. I let her drive me and my car to a secluded cabin... :rotfl2: I miss her--haven't talked to her in ages. :(....
And I likewise, Buck. Sounds good to me, a day at Disney, with Buck and family. Your mom, always fun to be with.

This:You're right...those WERE the good ol' days, and those who weren't here, couldn't possibly understand. There were some very fun and bonding discussions, as well as some great debates, as Brenda said, with people you knew and "understood."

I've "met", (and actually met a few), some of my favorite people in the world (including, from this thread, Dan, DisMN, Buckalew11, JerseyJanice and Snoopy) on the CB, most from many years ago.
Hay, Mare, many years ago? I just saw you and Dave a couple weeks ago, and it was great seeing and sharing part of the day with you both again. :cool1: And I'll say it again, that day of touring Boston and the Heritage Trail with you was a super day, a great memory.

.....Although I have not met many of us "old-timers" in person, I have had long Internet friendships with many here, including Mare, JJ, DisMN, Dan, and Buckalew.

I too miss Snoopy. I miss Blondie too. :sad1:

JJ, I agree with you that the "golden years" of the CB was around 2000 to 2002. Lively discussions, a lot of fun and some rather heated moments, but the difference was that we RESPECTED and "knew" each other - as well as you can truly "know" someone on an Internet bulletin board. Remember Bernie's Friday Places Posts? Remember the Friday Mens' posts, and the Friday Women's posts? Those were great times, and I miss them.

I think the CB has just gotten so big, with so many people, and with so many subjects that are "off limits" these days, it is just not the same. But, as time marches on, things change, people come and people go, stuff drifts away and new things come along. I guess that's just the natural history of this type of thing.
Remember when I was doing the states of the week? I was able to post those threads on the other forums here, linking posters to the community board and talk about their home states. Many stayed and hung around. I learned that one from Susan, she was very instrumental in building the community board into the activity that it sees today. Even if it is less active and intimate than in the past years, as it certainly was in those days past, it is still pretty busy from what I can see. I liked it too when the moderator type people on the board were actually people with names....Lisa, Bet, Robin, WillyJ, Rhonda, and Snoop too (I feel like I missed a couple, my aged mind is failing me). Lots of interaction, fun and late nights sometimes.

I think all off topic posts on other forums should get moved here. That might make it more lively.
That was the original intent of this board. And if winding up in an endless debate, further moved to that board.

We did have some serious fun didn't we? I loved the debates and the silliness and the characters that hung out here. Even the nasty people helped give this place the kind of goofy atmosphere that was so appealing. With certain exceptions of course. ;)

The DIS lost its edge when the 'changes' happened. I still don't understand any of it but I know that in the long run that it hurt this place. At least for me because many others seem to appreciate that it all happened. I miss a lot of people though.

I still come here because there are a few left over that I really admire plus I like the subject matter. It's still the best place to discuss the parks.
I agree, Linda. And yes, a good place to update one's self on the parks, very good.

I've been around since '2000 too and all of this is starting to sound suspisciously like when DH and I whine about how today's music is all lousy and can't hold a candle to the stuff from our day.

It also seems somewhat, I dunno, unfair to the people who ARE still here......There are plenty of folks left who keep this place interesting............
I agree with those thoughts also, Jennasis, good people 'back then', though some no longer; there are still plenty of good people today.

Snoopy is nice. Your remark...not so much.
True. She is, and the remark was not.

May be on to something there, Janice, with the Net's newness and novelty then.

That was about when I pretty much moved on, 2005, away from this board, frequenting more often the planning boards here, where I, and most originally start/ed from. The constant, incessant hijacking, along with so many 'drinking' threads, the growing prevalence and number of the huge clique threads, pretty much encouraged me to move elsewhere here. Many did leave then, and are still gone I guess. Somewhat similar was back in '03, when the continual moving of threads from this board to other boards was going on, in spite of this board being non-topical. Many left then, for good also. I know that is when Marie left, having been quite active for about a year, following the time when I quit being a moderator type person here. She said she did not need the aggravation of participating here with that going on.

Hey, just a thought....why did Marie wait till I quit being a moderator type person here to participate, even if only for about a year, LOL? :scratchin :lmao:

It's good you got to know the classy side of her. She now spends her time on another board criticizing and ridiculing current DISers.
Aisling, I only know a classy Judi. I am sure she has not left the Internet just because she can not participate here. There are many other good web sites and forums out there. This one is good, but certainly does not hold the title as exclusive. Knowing how busy she is with her own life, her hubby, kids, career, etc, I am confident she does not spend her time doing as you accuse. Would you have firsthand knowledge of such? I wish there were more people in this world as good as Judi, it might be a better place overall.

I must say I miss Judi's 'Whatcha wearing?' threads, (and certainly other ones also) she did every so often. I did not participate in them, pretty much a ladies' thread, but I eavesdropped sometimes. :surfweb: I always marveled how she, on those threads, and others she initiated, was able to keep them going for days and days sometimes, with her continual interaction, questions, comments, etc. She was a real asset. She is a good person.

I miss Judi's "whatcha wearing" threads. Even though she always caught me when I wasn't dressed up! :lmao:

I just meant that I'd gotten to know people many years ago on the DIS that remain close friends. :)

It was great that you could join Dave and me in "Italy" for dessert. Have you gotten any better at interpreting texts? ;) "In line 4 SE".

Boston...good times. :) I think that was the last time I did Boston!

I can't forget the "state roll call" threads. The one for New Jersey was the first CB thread I ever posted on.

I was leaving for a WDW trip in 9/00 and posted a thank you to everyone on the resorts board for helping me plan the trip. One of the mods moved my thread to the Community Board. I followed the thread and did some random CB reading, then thought initially, "these people are crazy for wasting their time talking to strangers on the internet."

When I got back from the trip, I posted a trip report and continued to lurk on the CB. Then came the New Jersey Disers roll call thread. I had to post on that thread, and the next thing I knew, I became a regular Diser.

It seems silly now, but back then, it was so new, every single thread was fun. It could be, "What's your favorite pizza topping?" or "Who's your favorite rock band?" It was all so new that even the most mundane threads were fun to participate in.

I used to enjoy those threads, but my favorites were when she'd post an internet jukebox. She'd say you have 5 songs to play that day, so which ones would you pick? Being a big rock fan, I used to get a kick out of those threads.

Remember the 2000 Presidential Election here? How many debates did we have about that? It's when I met Bet who I miss and wonder about what happened to her. If any of you guys "see" her anywhere, please send her my love. :)

seems like you spend some time over there too. I'm sure your "classy" side made you post that about someone you don't even know.

:thumbsup2 Judi is very nice. She usually is a person who sticks up for the underdog. People, in general, like her. :)

I've been around since '2000 too and all of this is starting to sound suspisciously like when DH and I whine about how today's music is all lousy and can't hold a candle to the stuff from our day.

It also seems somewhat, I dunno, unfair to the people who ARE still here. Like "you guys are OKAY, but those posters who got banned were SOOOOO much better."

There are plenty of folks left who keep this place interesting and there is the added bonus of my blood pressure not skyrocketing everytime I log on. I understand that some of you miss your friends. I miss some of them too.

I understand what you're saying. And it probably does come across that way. :( Don't mean it to...just missing old times, I guess.

And I likewise, Buck. Sounds good to me, a day at Disney, with Buck and family. Your mom, always fun to be with.

You mean, "Your mom, always a challenge to keep up wih." :rotfl2:

So this would not be complete without me asking for MNGoofy to come back, right?! :rolleyes1

I love the old names mentioned here...LisaTX, Rhonda,WillyJ...there are just some really fond memories...so many people have come and gone and will again...

Wow, you really think a bunch of women kidding around about having drinks was the downfall of the community board? There are just as many "clique" threads today - people like to form friendships, right? I think too many people started thinking of it as "their" board and wanted it "their" way.

All message boards have their ups and downs. It's the nature of the beast.

I've been here since the beginning and think the Dis CB's heyday was during 2000 to 2002. Those times can never be duplicated; either you were here or you weren't. If you were here, you were lucky to enjoy it while it lasted. If you weren't, you'll never understand what you missed.

Even if the banned topics and members were allowed back, it can't ever be the same. Fun on a message board is a fleeting thing.

::yes:: ::yes::

Hi Steve. You want to be mayor here in Chicago? His honor, the mayor, is about to pass he dad soon in tenure. :faint: (j/k)

I too still like the DIS as a forum of choice. Though I do not visit the community board much any more. I stop by and read a few times a week, give a  for those are hurting, share my family now and then, celebrate the holidays. That's about it.

Here since early '99, Janice. Those were some fun DIS board years, no? I miss them, but they are history, no less so than the years are themselves.

Same here, Steve, back to where I started. Most of the time on the theme park board, some transportation. I used to enjoy helping out on the tech board when I was able to and knew something in order to help, but those days are history too.

The friendships I have made here over the past eleven years have been, and are, among the best benefits I have derived from the forums. I have been able to meet so many folks from here over the years, along with their families. :cloud9: Have made a good number of personal, real life friendships over the years. One of my longest friendships here, Snoopy (Judi), will be refreshed in a few weeks, and really looking forward to it. Marie and I are heading to Wash DC and area for a week and a half later next month. One day we are spending with Judi, maybe one of her boys too. I have not seen her in a number of years, and both Marie and Judi are really looking forward to meeting each other for the first time. :cool1: She is one classy lady, so thankful for the DIS in allowing our paths to cross.

It really was.

And great having met you and your family too, Bren. :thumbsup2 Some day we have to get Marie there to the Smokies. Or better yet maybe, to WDW for a return visit.

Hey Dan...not sure if Chicago is ready for me although I do get there once a year for business...as for being the Mayor, I don't think I know enogh people there to have a true Chicago election.

It's too bad you don't visit the CB more...the threads with your WDW pictures are he best...they always make me feel like I'm there again.

It's good you got to know the classy side of her. She now spends her time on another board criticizing and ridiculing current DISers.

I try and avoid your posts but from this one it's really easy to see why you are such a hot topic at the "other board".
