We are doing the Happy Dance Here!!:banana::woohoo::yay::dance3::cheer2:

Our trip has been extended our new dates are June 7- June 14!!

Now we need to make reservations for the 1st and last night.

Does anyone know if we can go to orientation at GKTW on Sunday evening when our check in day is Monday?? We are hoping to get our tickets so we can start using them on Monday.

Maroo- could please send us a spreadsheet - so I can try planning my days - thanks for your help.

My husband isn't doing the happy dance yet - he doesn't like that we are flying out at 6:30 a.m. Sunday the 7th. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday the 14th. He was hoping to leave a little later the 7th and earlier the 14th. Well once he's there he will have fun - Hopefully:laughing::laughing:

Hi! This is my first post so please be gentle with me!:goodvibes

My 16 year old daughter is a devoted disboarder...and her favorite post is the wish tripper's one. She (RWROCKSME) follows y'all religiously...and celebrates each time anyone tells a lovely story about their wish kid or family wish trip. She often recounts the stories to me -- and is sooooo excited by details of children singing "when you wish upon a star" and first sightings of Cinderella that make her go "bippitty boppetty boo hoo".

She herself, though older than most of the wish kids we seem to find on this board, is on the heart/lung transplant list at the University of Florida. She sometimes talks about being blue (when wheelchair and "looking different" topics arise) but I don't think she has ever mentioned her illness on the board.

She doesn't have much energy or physical strength so she doesn't get out much and spends most of her time on the computer -- her only connection real connection to the outside world. She is an only child, goes to virtual high school and her most communicative friend at present is a Disney "pin"pal from California she has never met.

She was offered a wish trip a couple of years ago and was even asked to speak (She is a great advocate for all kids and once raised 52,000 dollars for Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang camps when she spoke on their behalf!) at a recent wish fundraiser at our medical school. She just couldn't decide what she wanted her wish to be. Well, after enjoying all of your stories vicariously and thinking about it she finally asked for a DisneyLAND wish!

She was sooooo excited when she got the word that it went through an we can probably go in the fall (she can't handle extremes of temperatures and summer would be too hot for her). So she posted...and no one replied. She was heart broken...and her heart IS broken.

I know it probably isn't often that a "teen" wish kid posts it probably just slips by most of you. But, as a mom who goes through what most you do (I was told she wouldn't live through the night she was born...and that was just the FIRST time), I know we usually just feel helpless when it comes to helping ease their pain.

But this is one time I CAN do something! Please, if you read my blue fairy's post please congratulate her. It would make her day! She wants to be included and she is a far better surf "boarder" than her mom ever hopes to be. And, as you all know, "when the baby is happy -- the mama is happy!!!"

THANK YOU :worship:THANK YOU :worship:THANK YOU :worship:

I found it. And it WAS on this thread. Which upsets me so much! I feel horrible that we missed your sweet DD's post. :sad1:

Thank you for registering and posting to let us know we missed it.

I have posted an answer to her which includes a link to the one DisneyLAND wish trip report we have so far.

Please reassure her that it was really not intentional. I try to make sure every post is addressed on this thread...but a new poster announcing a wish trip - especially a teen - would be answered enthusiastically, immediately! If I had just seen it.

I am so excited to have an actual wish teen posting!! I could never get Lauren to post...:sad2:

I hope she will be inspired to write a pre-trip report and trip report...we desperately need an expert to help us with the families that are going to DisneyLAND on a wish trip.

Hey supsarap:

I am a transplant mom too. When my son received his liver transplant we met a teenage girl on the hospital floor we were on who was a heart and lung recipient. I believe she was a high school freshman which would make her a junior this year. She had been homeschooled for all of elementary and junior high and had just gotten back to high school when she was having some rejection issues that she was overcoming with apheresis. She was home schooling when we met her and had a large network of transplant recipient friends from around the country that she had met through the transplant games (kind of like the olympics but with transplant recipients). We haven't seen her in 2 years, but are going to the transplant patient picnic later this month. I'll see if she is there, and if not I will speak to the Child Life director at the hospital and see if I can get her in contact with your daughter. It appears they have a lot in common, and this girl and her group of friends may be a good network for your daughter to connect with.

Please post the thread number to your daughter's thread. I know that you only have one post and can't post links yet on the Dis, but you could just type in the thread number and then we will be able to find it and encourage her!

My prayers are with you guys. Let me know if I can answer any questions (transplant or wish trip ones).

Awww! I love that! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes It's so cool that they are so happy just thinking about it. Can you spell M-A-G-I-C?

Anyway, MY Wish Trip got approved today!!! :woohoo: I am going to do an Adventures By Disney trip to California to see the Jim Henson Studios, the Walt Disney Studios, and Disneyland. I also get to meet Donna, my "Disney friend" for the first time. I am so excited!!!! This is a year and a half in the making, ( ) so I am happy to be getting this show on the road!

Okay, this is so weird. I got this email this morning in my inbox and read it. When it took me to the disboards it took to the page it was on and I couldn't believe that since last night at around midnight (last time I checked my mail) that you guys had chatted about 10 pages worth!

There has to have been some sort of glitch or something but I don't know what. I was extremely interested in this post for several reasons. One being I LOVE disneyland and two being I dream of taking an Adventures by Disney trip one day! And lastly, well Maroo would probably know why! ;)

Obviously I figured out that it was posted back on the 1st and then went looking for it in the first post. It was all really odd!

7 in 7 days. Although we didn't do a character lunch?:confused3

Mental note for next time!!! LOL

Of course you have to do a character lunch!!!!

Hi everyone. We are headed to GKTW on May 5- May 11th. We are very excited! :woohoo::woohoo: Ok my youngest daughter Elise, 4 yrs, got her wish granted by MAW. My kids and I live with my parents plus my 12 yr old nephew. MAW is paying for me and my 3 kids, and since i'm a single mother they are also paying for my mother to go too. I have been looking for a vacation package that is the same that GKTW gives that is affordable for my dad and nephew so that they can enjoy everything that we get to. So i haven't any luck. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

Wow!! Another trip!!! Congrats!!!

Do you guys want them to stay on Disney property or off property?

I would suggest just a simple hotel close to GKTW, if they are ok with that. Then you can get discounted tickets from one of the discount ticket places...

www.orlandofuntickets.com is one place you can get discounted tickets. Let them know this is a Make a Wish trip and hopefully they can give you the very best deal they can find. I have never used this site, but it is advertised often on a podcast that I listen to a lot.

Then you can buy "bunny bucks" when you get there and they can eat meals with you. They are $1 per meal. Very cheap!! :) It is possible they will let them eat free with you, but I am not sure how that works and it changes often! :)

Are your father and nephew staying with you at GKTW? Sometimes they allow that depending on the circumstances, and since you all live in the same household, they probably will let them stay there, but you will need to find out before you get there. We had seven in the villa (my husband and me and 5 kids), and we fit fine. The sofa folds out and there is a roll away in the second bedroom.

There are some websites, allears.net and mousesavers.com that will give you some locations to purchase Disney tickets at a discount. If you order Universal tickets online, they are cheaper than if you purchase them at the gate.

Those are GREAT flights!! You will get to be there longer that way! :) Great job!!!

I will definitely do a planner for you. Do you want me to go ahead and do it now or wait till the more finalized calendar comes out? Up to you. :)

I think the soonest you will be able to get your tickets would be Monday morning. There is sometimes an orientation at 9:00 AM...

I would call GKTW and ask them how they would handle that. 800-995-KIDS is the number you can call. I would ask them how they will handle you guys coming a day early. It seems like you would not have any tickets for Sunday?

Andrea:

We had batted around the idea of getting there a day early as well. As it turned out, that didn't work for us. We ended up spending a day in Savannah, GA before hand then headed down to GKTW. I did call GKTW ahead of time, before we decided on Savannah, and asked if we could get our ticket package early and they said that we couldn't check into the villa, or leave our things (luggage) there on property, but that it shouldn't be a problem to get our tickets early. Make sure that you speak with a staff person when you call and ask (someone who is a paid employee at GKTW and has some authority) rather than just a desk volunteer. They have to prepare the packets ahead of time (your tickets to the three parks, GAC, bunny book, etc.) You will want them to have a heads up.

We didn't have enough time to fit everything in during our trip. We had to skip Sea World when we were there. Call the GKTW office, tell them that you will be there early and ask them if you can sit in on the orientation and get your packet before hand, even though you are not checking in yet. I bet they will let you; they just need to know what is up.

Oh, and don't worry...I am sure your husband will get his groove on soon

Another good reputable site for discounted tickets is http://www.undercovertourist.com. Also, if you register at http://www.mousesavers.com, you will get their newsletter that gives you a special link to undercovertourist that will discount the tickets even more! Mousesavers also has some great discounts to hotels on their website.

I also just recently found out about Windsor Hills (from these boards of course!). This website http://www.vacationcentralflorida.com has beautiful condos that rent for $299-$399 a week. Lots of people on this board have used them. Might even be cheaper than a hotel!

Is it true that there is a makeover type spa for kids at GKTW?? If so I may think of cancelling the one at Downtown Disney.

Where is the best place to get inexpensive souveniors? or where is your favorite place for souveniors???

Yes, there is a really nice makeover spa at GKTW. You sign up for a time at the House of Hearts. We did it and the kids got tatoos. My daughter got her makeup and nails done. (You can also ask for a couple of other things too, I think). I don't think they do hair though. Then they were able to choose from dresses/outfits to dress up in and have some pictures taken. Kailyn dressed as a princess (of course) and Joshua as a Nascar race driver! I have lots of pictures, but haven't gotten that far in my trip report yet. It was lots of fun, and FREE!! And for my daughter, I think just as special as bibby boutique would have been.

And for souveniors...we really didn't buy much at all (a couple of things at the parks and Downtown Disney). You get SO much from GKTW! We came home with spending money left over (it is socked away for our return trip to Disney someday!!)

Those are 'ideal' flights in my opinion.

I'm not sure how long the flight is from Michigan but coming from CT we always try to get one of the first flights out. Less chance of a delay plus if we leave by 8 we arrive in Orlando before 11.(Flights usually take 2 1/2 hours) That gives us time to get our rental, drive over to Disney, check-in, and relax. DD can take a nap if she wants to(yeah right.. she's too excited!) or swim in the pool.

If you didn't want another full day on your departure day, leaving at 3:30 is good. Gives you time to sleep in, get your stuff in the car, then head over to the airport. Keep in mind that the airport can get very busy on departures. Waiting to get through that security line can take a while. So arrive there at least 2 hours early. I'd plan on driving by 12:15. So you should be able to have lunch before you drive over. In March our flight was at 10:30 on a Sunday, the day of the time change. We were up at 6:15 (really 5:15) to get our stuff in the car and to eat breakfast before our drive over. We had breakfast and were on the road at 8. While being home early was nice (in my house about 2:15), waking up that early and just being exhausted wasn't worth it. I don't thing I'd leave Orlando before noon!:goodvibes

Have a great time on your trip!!!!!!!!! WE WILL BE WAITING FOR A TR!:rotfl:

WHEW!!! Trying to catch up but i think I'm going to have to just jump in!! Anyway here's part of what i did catch up on!!
I did see your username and it did sound a bit wierd at first, the curse word way(btw....did not bother me because knew it wasnt intentional :goodvibes), but mostly I see your username as someone cally becky who is always crying/sobbing
I too thought of Becky crying? Then my imagination went wild. crying because of sickness?? heartache?? well I'm sure sometimes. We all do for our kiddos! But........... Hmmm Becky Sobbing on the Dis why??? Well out of Joy for her trip of course!!!:thumbsup2
i never even thought of the cuss word until it was pointed out. But then the closest i get to Swearing is "Shoot and even then I try to justify it cause what I actually say is " SHOOT Fire and save the matches!! :rotfl:

I just can't even imagine a father refusing to save his son? UGH, I'm getting sick to my stomache. Honestly, I was petrified, had doubts, but in the end, I said to myself.......How can you not do it? I'm her mother! It's my duty! If I could do it again, I would! Piper was lucky because both me and her dad were matches. So....if her kidney decides to fail, she'll always have her dads kidney. Her brother who is 13 is already saying that he would do it too. I was released from the hospital the day after the surgery, and Piper was in for a whole week. I was sore, yes, but, I don't like all the fuss over me. In fact, when I would come to see Piper, some of the nurses couldn't believe that I was her mom, the "donor" up and walking around. Walking slowly of course. ha ha Like I said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. For anyone. I wish everyone would think like that.

I hope Adam is doing well these days? Those 17 months must've been nerve-racking.
I can't imagine that either!! I WISH every day i was a match for DH!! I was hoping to enter into the partner swap program, in the hopes I would match someone else and their spouse, friend, etc... that didn't match them would match DH, but i have some health issues that are keeping me from it right now. Our DS9 wants to give his kidney to his Dad bad. he can't stand the fact that he's not old enough!!:)

Anyway, MY Wish Trip got approved today!!! :woohoo: I am going to do an Adventures By Disney trip to California to see the Jim Henson Studios, the Walt Disney Studios, and Disneyland. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Let us know when you get your dates and if you start a PTR!!!

...and we are sooo sad... It has been a fabulous week. I couldn't have asked for things to go better; Sami stayed well; everyone had a blast...we were all this close (-) to bursting into tears as we pulled away from GKTW.
I have missed a lot of posts in the past week or so, but I just wanted to check back in. I plan on sticking around a while to answer any questions that I can, since you 'all have been so great to me. While it is fresh on my mind, here are a few things that I wish I had known before I left:

1. The airport went much smoother than I thought. I was prepared for huge waits, but we slid on through and ended up having too much time to wait for the plane. Having said that, make sure you ask for "wheelchair service" at the boarding gate (assuming you need a wheelchair). Even though it was printed on our reservation confirmation, we didn't have it going down, but we did coming back. It made a huge difference in how fast we got out of the plane.

2. Orientation is much longer than I expected. No biggee, but make sure the kiddos are off playing somewhere and not waiting for you. I think it ended up being close to an hour long. (Maybe our guy just liked to talk. :))

3. This has been said, but bears repeating. Make sure you stay and eat breakfast at GKTW. You will have PLENTY of time to ride/see most everything that you want to see. We never were at a park from open to close and still saw/did most everything that we wanted to do. I did mess up my timing on our first day. I did Epcot first and then AK. I would switch those around because Epcot closes later than AK. We ended up missing a couple of things at AK because we went there last. (By the way, if time is a problem, skip Honey, I Shrunk the Audience,(really bad) but do Soarin', at all costs. Most of the days we were able to eat dinner at either the Gingerbread House or Katie's Kitchen. The House runs from 6 to 8, but Katie's Kitchen (which is Boston Market food) closes at 10:30 and they deliver if you come back too pooped.

4. Do not miss the dolphin feeding at Sea World. One of my favorite memories is of Sami touching the dolphins. Her face lit up and we have a great picture. I will try and post it in a few days. We also loved Believe (Shamu show).

5. Don't miss Philharmagic at MK. Skip Stitche's Great Escape (awful).

6. Universal was absolutely fabulous to us. It ended up being one of our favorite places. Quite honestly, even though no one was ever rude and did whatever they were asked, most of the Disney staff were fairly blah about the WISH kids. However, at Universal, THEY WILL HUNT YOU DOWN. :rotfl:seriously...we had some chase us to get us in to meet the characters. But oh I am so glad they did. I just about burst into tears when Sami saw the characters of Madagascar. That moment alone was well worth the work of it all. Speaking of which....

7. NO MATTER WHAT YOU READ ANYWHERE, WISH KIDS DO NOT STAND IN LINE TO MEET CHARACTERS.....EVER... I thought we had to and stood in line to meet Buzz and Woody from Toy Story. The staff at HS apologized up and down for not seeing us standing in line. (It actually worked out fine, because they have little settings through the line area where you can get pictures of the kids in Andy's room, in Sid's room, etc. One of my favorite shots is of Sami in the Prospector's toy box. (The exception to the blah rule (see number 6) was Buzz and Woody. They were literally jumping up and down when they saw Sami. Sami really believes they were very excited to meet her!

8. Most of the food at GKTW is really great. Do not miss the waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. The volunteers were beyond belief. I wanted to put a couple of the oldsters in our pocket and bring them home with us. :lovestruck:

9. If you get a wheelchair van from Wheelchair Gateways, before you pull off, make sure that the tank is full. Also, per the instructions, you are supposed to fill the tank back up at a BP gas station right by Wheelchair Gateways when you return the van. We did that and paid .30 cents more a gallon than if we filled up a few blocks earlier. If we did it over, I would have filled up closer to the Village and just topped off a bit at the BP.

10. Not having to pay for most of your meals makes your money stretch far.

11. Do not worry about "skipping lines". I didn't know if I had it in me to waltz past the line, bumping and "excusing me" all the way. This is so not how it works. For 95% of the rides, you will just use the fast pass lane. You go to the worker in front of the ride, show your GAC and away you go. For the few that don't work that way, never was I made to feel odd. I can almost guarantee that the vast majority of people had no idea what was happening. THe only exception to this was the character greet. However the worker always asked the person in front if it was okay to slip in a WISH kid and never one time, did anybody do anything other to smile and say sure!

Those are the thoughts that are on top of my head. I just can't say enough about the trip, the Village, the parks.... Normally, by the end of vacation, I am ready to return home. This is the first vacation that they had to practically drag me kicking and screaming on to the plane. :rotfl:

Anyway, if you have any questions that I might be able to answer since everything is so "fresh", just let me know.

Tammy B
AHhh I remember the Want to Cry Don't want to leave feeling!!!
That's funny about the lines and the Parks. Disney pulled us to the front of so many lines that i almost thought they were trained with x ray vision. We didn't have GKTW buttons or Make a Wish buttons. We did have Texas Wishing Well buttons and maybe that's why. Cause a CM would come get us and then ask us about the Foundation. Of course with DS being in a w/c. That did get us a little more noticed!!

:scared1:

The hard drive on my laptop died. Completely, nothing can be resuscitated.

No, I hadn't backed it up. :headache:

My 10 page document of Disney notes, the careful work of going through hours of Disboard messages ... gone!

So ... um, if there's any "This Is Really Important" stuff you can think of, please let me know! :)
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
But you know what i think once you start writing down what you remember you'll remember more than what you think!!!!

I left my planning notebook, my printouts etc,... and i was able to remember our whole plan almost in its entirety!! And I do not have the worlds greatest memory!!;)

Have we missed anyone else lately with all our ramblings?? If so, please let us know!! We don't mean to leave anyone out!!

Congrats!!:woohoo::yay::banana::cool1::thumbsup2 Wow, you've been working on this wish a long time already!!

Adventures by Disney sounds like SO much fun! What a unique wish trip that will be!! Hope you will start a pretrip report! We did a trip to Disneyland last year, not with MAW (just on our own). But we used the GAC there and got to know all the ins and outs of doing Disneyland with special needs. So if you have any questions, ask away!! Do you know where you will be staying yet??

My sister has lived in Southern California for about 10 years now so I am familiar with the airports and many of the attractions there if I can answer any questions for you. I can't wait for you to start your pre-trip report.

You leave the day before we get there....we are there June 15-21...and we have an early flight too....But I am figuring we wouldn't sleep anyway..

We are going to be there right after you leave...We are there from June 15-22.....we have an early flight too...I am sure we won't sleep anyway

AWESOME!!!!! Once he's there he'll be glad of the extra time ya'll had because of those flight times!! My DH was wishing they would have been earlier going and later leaving AFTEr we got home. Before we left he didn't care for the times!!

Wow...this thread is moving fast these days!!! We have done over 10 pages in 7 days.

This is GREAT news that you can go ahead and get your tickets!!!!

Ah Ha! Very good suggestions!! :)

Maroo:

I can't find her post...can you tell me the page number? Thanks!

~Elisa

It is on page 71...I quoted above...but you can quote it too. I can't believe we missed it. :(
