My DS is 10 yo. Would he really be considered and charged for the adult menu at Makahiki for both breakfast and dinner? As much as he's willing to try different foods, I know that he'd eat from and like the kieki menu more.

Yes. Just like at WDW, they are very strict on this. 10 is an “adult.”

Thanks for the info. We haven't done the buffets at WDW with DS since he's turned 10, but IIRC when it comes to food at other TS and QS restos they're not as strict. I myself have ordered off the kid menu because I find the adult meals are often enough to feed two adults in our family.

I guess if they are strict at Makahiki about the age limit, it is out for us then. I wouldn't pay $45 for breakfast and $68 for dinner when he'd do better eating off the keiki menu. Breakfast *maybe*...but definitely not dinner. It's not the costs that gets me, but moreso the value.

Yeah, wdw (and DL) really only enforce it on buffets, family style, and character meals. Basically if you pay one price, you have to pay for the “right age.” There’s a window for sure where it’s not a great value for most (10-12ish although my 11 year old swimmer son loves a buffet).

Yup, was just thinking that it's probably a better value when he's a hormonal teen or even pre-teen that needs to stuff his face at every chance. I guess we'll need to come back in a few years to give it a try. 😝

For dinner, when we were there in February, it wasn't buffet. Has that changed? If not, our 12 year old was able to order off the kids menu with the accompanying price with no problem for dinner. For breakfast, yes, she had to pay the adult price for the breakfast buffet which probably amounted to a piece of sausage and a waffle for her.

This is good to know. The sample menus posted for Makahiki are not buffets but 3 course prix-fixe menus. Not sure if breakfast has changed back to buffet, but I could assume that it will be when we're there in August.

I wouldn’t assume they will go back to a buffet by August. Soooo hard to tell. The reopening of things seems so dependent on a combo of staffing, Disney priorities and what makes them more money - but for me it’s hard to figure out their calculations. Or if this is still a Hawaiian health regulation. Just gotta play by ear IMO.
