the heels of my feet are cracking SOOOOOO bad right now. I have problems with it all of the time- no matter what time of year, but it's NEVER been this bad- usually just a minor issue. It's turned into a MAJOR issue. I've spent the most part of today walking all goofy and in pain every time I stand or walk.

I've tried a TON of things, Corona (sp?) given to be by my mom telling me it's the only thing that works for her...vasalline, even some special "foot relief cream" made for cracking, dry skin.

For about 2 years now I've done regular pedicures on my own feet, most of the time it helps greatly. I have not found ANYTHING that works this time. My husband has even told me to get regular professional pedicures weekly and use tons of creams in between until they start to get better. Truthfully, I would be horrified to have someone touch my heels and feet right now! I want the at least a LITTLE better before that's even a consideration!

For those of you who have or have had this problem in the past, what do you do? What works for you. At this point, I'll try anything! I've done baby oils, creams, hoof creams (yeah, even for horses and cows...which was recommended also by my mom.), I am stumped. I can't keep walking around like this!!!

Try a pedegg, it worked with me and I've had heals like that my entire life. I started using the egg last year and have had great success. Best $10 I've ever spent!

I have the same problem. Usually mine just get bad in the summer time when all I wear is flipflops. What I have found that really works for me is Heeltastic. It is a stick that you rub on your heels(I do it before bed each night). It is one of those "as seen on tv" products but I have found it at Walmart. Good Luck

I've had a horrible problem with this for years. My dermatologist recommended Ultra Mide 25 several years ago and it has worked better than anything else on the market and heaven knows I've tried a ton of things. You have to apply it every night and you don't need a lot. You have to use it for a while and then all of a sudden, you will notice a big improvement. But when my heels are downright painful, one night's use can make a huge difference. I have to ask the pharmacy to order it, even though it's OTC. One bottle will last forever. Walmart can get it easily.

Are you sure it's not a type of athlete's foot? I'd try an antifungal maybe, if creams, etc. haven't worked to this point.

I tried creams and ointments with no success. The only thing that works for me is one of those heel "shavers" used during pedicures. They are EXTREMELY sharp and have to be used very carefully. Walmart carries them. I just soak my feet and lightly scrape the dead skin off. Go lightly at first and restrain yourself from removing too much skin which will make your heels too tender and may bleed.

It may take a few sessions to remove the worst of it. Even now, I have to do it at least once per week. Plus I get professional pedicures about every 6 weeks.

My mom has that problem. When you put cream on at night, make sure you put socks on and sleep in them.

One of the things that I found worked like a champ was a product call AquaPhor. It is an over the counter jell like item that restores moisture to the skin in many cases. I know it works very well for me. Just a couple of applications and it seems to clear it up.

That, of course, is for my particular problem. Yours may be different and require something else but a small tube of it isn't very expensive and certainly worth a try. It is good for other minor skin dryness situations as well.

Disclaimer: I am not representing this product and do not get any payment for endorsing it. It just has worked for me.:)

Agreed! :thumbsup2 I generally put it on before bed and then throw some socks on.

I had the same problem and tried every type of cream for heels and feet that was on the market without any relief.
I bought a pediegg and that worked to get rid of some of the dry skin but all it did was scrape off some of it, but didn't relieve the cracking which sometimes was so bad my feet hurt to walk.
I even tried that cream that they have been sho9wing on tv that comes in a roll on. It didn't work.
I finally found something that works great.
In Kohls in the beauty section they have a creme for feet that comes in a tube. I can't remember the name of it right now but it is something like Heel relief or Heel creme. It works fantastic.
I use the pediegg and then rub this cream on and put on white socks and when I wake up in the am my feet are healed. I do this every night and my feet have been great.
I was away for a week and forgot my cream and when I got home my heels hurt and the cracks and dryness was terrible. I did the routine and by the next morning I had my feet back to normal again.

I have used a few things like olive oil and sugar as a scrub (good for elbow also) then olive oil alone like a cream. This is my current favorite.
I have also used bag balm, comes in a green tin found at drug stores and some sewing store (not sure why the sewing stores). Love it but it is a bit sticky going on.
Next favorite is lanolin (the stuff nursing moms use) again sticky but good.

Best thing for my cracked heels is walking on the beach every day. Unfortunately we don't live by the beach.:sad2:

I use a pumice stone and foot cream at night and moisturizer during the day (sometimes put on several times). That works well for me. I may try the egg, too.

My DH has had this problem for years. It usually occurs in the cold winter months when the weather here is dry. He purchases these special socks to wear at night (I think he buys them at Walgreens). They are toelss socks and have a gel pad at the bottom of the sock that goes under the heel. Before putting on the socks he melts some wax and oil (coconut oil, I think) and pours it into the cracks of his heels. Then he puts on the gel socks. He sees a noticeable difference after a few nights.

The same problem comes back each winter but some years are worse than others.

This is going to sound weird, but when I was on a healthy kick and stopped eating anything with high fructose corn syrup, I noticed that my cracked heels went away and my feet were so smooth. Now I am eating it some again and the cracks are back. Just something I noticed.

I also suggest looking into an athlete's foot cream... walmart generic did wonders for me...

Might want to try... cheap solution if that's what it is!:goodvibes

Vaseline is one of the best BUT you need to put it on twice a day, in the a.m. and then again in the p.m. Then put on clean white socks.

The key is to be diligent ... use it every day twice a day without fail. You will see a difference if you keep it up. More if you have the time. Once you see it working, then you can cut back to once a day. :thumbsup2

The best part of applying the vaseline allot, is your hands get as smooth as your feet from continued applying of the vaseline.

Another great cream is MIRACLE FOOT REPAIR ... does wonders. You can find that at most drug stores.

I would call a podiatrist and make an appt for a check up. AND then I would also get a SPA pedicure!

I can second Miracle Foot Repair. Flexitol is great, too. My feet go in cycles, sometimes cracking to the point of bleeding. I use a type of shaver (a special blade that is in a longer handle - bought it in the footcare section of Target), which works well in removing dead skin. I have found that getting rid of the dead skin hastens the time it takes the creme to make a difference.

As others have mentioned, you should try wearing socks after using the lotion, especially at night, and remember to apply multiple times a day.

I'd definitely check with your healthcare provider, though. Foot problems can be a sign of other things, and/or can lead to bigger problems.

Good luck - I am sure you are miserable with your feet hurting so much
