Major Rumor Marvel in ToT update page 25

Spirited rumor update

He says this is a Bob Chapek project as he wants to get marvel into the parks. The coaster that was planned for DCA got shelved for now because of what else but Shanghai. This is likely a permanent thing in DCA however in WDW it's possible it's only a temporary overlay. We all know how temporary things are though with Disney. This idea is past blue sky and well in development to get approved. DCA's ToT would close in January 2017 and reopen in May/June. WDW's would not be far behind but wouldn't follow the same exact schedule.

Paris is rumoured to be re theming their tram tour to Marvel and Rock and Rollercoaster is currently down till the 17th June 16. If Paris re themes RNRC then it will come to the others as well.

I've seen things regarding their RnRc but I haven't seen anything about changing their tram tour. I've heard things will be added to it but not that it would become marvel themed.

Tram Tour is going down from August 16 till Apr 17, Rumour mill is Marvel. RNRC if they are going to do something with it, it would be the right time as it is down for a few months, if it changes expect it at the other parks too.

I don't think it necessarily has to change at DHS though. This whole ToT rumor doesn't affect any of the foreign parks.

If I recall, the Tram Tour at Paris is supposed to be getting a big update that includes Star Wars, Marvel and other big properties, but not necessarily a full Marvel re-theming (unless plans have changed). Rock 'n Roller Coaster is probably being changed at both parks, and that's where a Marvel overlay would make the most sense.

For now I'm going to remain skeptical about Tower of Terror, but given that there is a Marvel division at Imagineering, I guess it's fair to especulate for a while.

I'm just back from a Caribbean vacation and caught up on the the spirit's thread over at wdwmagic. There were some other tidbits in his original few posts.

Only 50% of the painting will be done for the Shanghai Disneyland opening. There have been changes at the executive level vin Shanghai. Cost overruns at the Chinese Resort have required double digit percentage cuts at the domestic parks. Chefs have been asked to use cheaper ingredients and use creative plating options to reduce portion size.

Just a few examples. These coupled the misguided and downright idiotic idea of re-theming TOT to GotG has me angry and disappointed.

Yes I posted those things in the news round up thread.

All companies have to evolve and adjust in order to stay relevant..but WDW is one of the few places where people value nostalgic attractions and rides. Bigger, more expensive, more high tech isn't what ALL guests value at WDW (take a look how many complaints UO gets because they put in too much 3d/4d attractions).

I want to go to WDW with my children and experience rides and attractions that I once rode on as a child. I don't expect all the stuff to stay stagnant forever because I do like new attractions here and there but still. While my husband loves both RnRC and ToT (I have fond memories of ToT but it's not really my cup of tea anymore due to vertigo issues brought on by up and down motions like that) he wouldn't mind a bit of a retheming of RnRC but ToT.....jeez ToT retheming or tear down ugh I don't even know how to put into words how messed up that is.

I cant get how ToT can be re-themed to anything else?

That's the problem. The ride is exceptionally well themed for what it is, the ride system is essentially designed to do this one thing. Just jamming another logo on top of it won't be an improvement. It's not like the Malestrom to Frozen reskinning.

I find it hard to give this rumor much credence, because it just seems beyond dumb.

It just doesn't make any sense. There's nothing to fix in Tower of Terror,

Yes but there's something that desperately needs a fix in DHS, and probably they need it fixed desperately fast.

Like, attendance, revenues and profits for the next 4 years (or more) when the park is an empty shell and everyone who doesn't have a 5 year old kid is giving it a miss until some substantial Star Wars attractions are in place.

If you want to see what a lame, "anything to fill a corner of the park", quickie-overlay, Marvel-based attraction looks like, check out Dr. Doom's Fear Fall.

I agree that RnR would be a better candidate for a quickie makeover, after all it's just an off-shelf coaster with a (somewhat) elaborate pre-show.

This may make sense. I saw a rumor on another site that in GOtG 2, Star Lord gets stuck in an elevator and Rocket tries to save him as the elevator falls!

:)

I specified POPULAR rides. The seas was not popular at all. Alien Encounter got so many complaints about being too scary they had to do it. Even Maelstrom was not considered a great ride, and often could be ridden with no or little wait. Tower of Terror, though doesn't always have long lines, is pretty popular...especially considering a good portion of folks won't ride it because its a thrill ride.

Is Test Track popular enough?

OK - I see your point there, but really fundamentally they didn't really change anything at test track. It's still a "Testing the design of your car" they only modernized the overlay - the ride is basically identical to before.

Personally - I guess if they just did a retheming of the ToT and it was the exact same ride it wouldn't be so bad. I just don't see how you theme it to GotG.

To me TT feels like a completely different ride now. And honestly, if they were going to do something more than just a change of theming with ToT, wouldn't it be cheaper to just build from scratch? How many different types of rides would fit into a building of that design?

I personally don't see the Test Track re-theming on the same league as Tower of Terror for two reasons: Test Track was never known for its fantastic theming and environment but for being a thrilling ride, and of course, Test Track 2.0 still preserves its original concept with no IP attached.
