Just got back, and cant believe there hasn't been any threads about this yet, Or I haven't seen them.
At HDS on Friday March 13th tried to pay with band for couple of smoothies from the new starbucks. Mickey bands down, and did not have cash with me and they were great and gave them to us no charge.
We went back for naps and I brought money this time just in case. Grabbing dinner outside Beauty and the Beast show and they are now telling everyone the bands are down on all of the World.
So many people upset, We were trying to pay with our meal plans, and could not. More people getting free food, we paid for ours and they told us to get money back at the resort, keep receipts.
Wondering how many others had food and things compt, how many lost purchases at stores, and the headache at the front desk of all the resorts.
Hope this doesn't happen too often.
We were still able to use bands for park entry and room, but not charging.
Up and running next day.
Anyone else affected?

I saw nothing about it on the Themeparks forum, which is where the most people would likely talk about it.

I saw one post on the theme park forum. Wasn't clear if it was just bands or all credit card transactions that were down.

This isn't uncommon. Any system (magic band, credit card, gift card, a combo of any of those) can go down at anytime. You always need to have backup payment.

Access to DDP credits was down for several hours, I didn't hear about the MB's being down.

:earsboy: Bill

We arrived at Disney on Friday the 13th. When we went to Wolfgang puck express at DTD we were told the system was down so we would have to pay cash and be refunded/ Could not charge to room or use meal plan. The front desk applied to our meal plan the next day/ Cast members seemed to be used to doing this. We are still at Disney and everything
is working now.

Yep I saw it Friday at Epcot (could not room charge my food) and talked to some folks who had it happen at MK.
The reason there's not a thread is that is NOT an unusual occurrence. Tragic Band failure should be expected by now. Carry a back up payment method!

Issue with back up payment, we like going with just the bands and the clothes on our backs. We witnessed a few people just asking for a supervisor, not rude or anything and they were just getting compt.
Not the way I would like to do it everytime.

You need your license for any alcohol purchases. You need your member ID for discounts. I think it's unreasonable to go into a park without some sort of backup. I usually carry my ID, a credit card, DVC member ID, and two $20 bills held together by a rubberband in my front pocket.

I also remember a thread where fastpass+ was down and the FP line was turning green for everybody. Was that the same day?

In the morning with rope drop we are minimal, we are not buying anything, and we don't even drink while on vacation ( I know crazy ). In the afternoon after naps we take a small pack with snacks and water, and then yes sometimes the wallet.

I don't recall the FP+ being that way any time during our trip. But this was a trip that we only had to use about 1/2 our fasspasses. The lines were not too bad.:sunny:

You should always have your ID, some cash, credit/debit card and health insurance card. And any cards you need for discounts.
I am amazed when people enter the parks with none of these essential items. What if something happens while you're in the parks? If some type of emergency arises, I can't imagine not having that type of information on hand.

So when there's an emergency you get to be Jane Doe in the hospital?

Seriously I don't get this. What do you do if there is an emergency?

As someone who works in healthcare we get it all the time, but it still amazes me. And then everyone is hysterical because "we didn't know where Mom was" GEE, wonder why?

I'm with everyone that said they hate carrying anything with them. I especially don't like to carry my wallet in so I invested in a case for my cell phone that has a compartment to hold 3 cards so that's where I keep backup payment and ID.

Wow. That had to hurt sales in stores too!

With Magic Band instead of bring wallet I will bring my wallet insert that will have my license, a credit card, DVC or TIW, and I will stick a little cash in.

We experienced this 1 day during the end of February....happened one day only, and Disney was very good about reimbursement/compensation.

It was down in the morning for our typhoon lagoon day. The server said they were able to charge our food and then it went down. We paid cash for the rest of that day. It did not show up on bill for first part of our stay. We were giving the grand villa for two nights! CM said it would show up later due to them having to fix so many people stuff. I am home and I have still not seen a bill for that meal. That was in Feb

Remember when Magic Bands were first coming out and part of the marketing spiel was that it was all you had to carry?! :rolleyes1
