Major drama this morning! A haircut!

Oh, man! What a time I had with my 9 year-old son this morning!

I took him for a haircut yesterday. He no longer wants his hair buzz-cut, which is what I like, so I asked the girl at the salon to give him a basic boy's scissor cut. And it looks fine! He was way overdue for a cut, so it's a big improvement over the mop that was on top of his head.

He griped about it somewhat yesterday, but he typically does after any haircut. This morning, though, I felt like we regressed about 6 years. He got up, played with his hair in the mirror, wet it down this way and that, then took a major temper tantrum!

"Why did you do this to me? I can't go to school looking this!"

I practically had to drag him to school. He was carrying on something silly!

You know something funny, though? I'm pretty sure I carried on the same way over haircuts when I was a kid too. It's payback, right, Mom?

Even my DD doesn't fuss over her hair like that! But then, this is the kid who actually likes the frizzies.

Hair is one of the things my kids and I agree to disagree on. We had plenty of the mornings like this around our house, the only difference now is that they learned their hair will grow back, but they are still just as dramatic.

Heck, most of the time I can't even get ds10 to comb his hair, let alone fuss over it!!

Longer hair is in for boys these days and he probably liked his longer hair because of that. I know my 11 year old DS has his hair longer then I like but the rule is that he keeps it combed or it gets cut. DS13 had some girls tell him last year that he had such nice hair so he wouldn't cut it all year. Oh, well. When summer came and it was hot, he cut it off and now doesn't like it long. Hair is a pretty easy compromise for kids expressing themselves. He could have had a big tattoo put on his face!

DD13: "I HATE MY HAIR!"

DH: Well, "I HATE MY HAIR TOO!" (picture a man saying this in a girly voice)

DD: Dad, you're not funny!

DH: What? All I said was that I hated my hair.

DD: Okay, so you're mocking me?

DH: Nope! I just wanted you to hear what you sound like when you say that.

DD: Then she walks away.
