MAJOR changes to Genie+!

Making everyone buy and book at the same time will go swimmingly I’m sure. Luckily Disney is renowned for it’s quality IT.
I mean...we know this is going to happen. Disney knows it is going to happen.

It is so very obvious that I wonder if this is just the first change of several coming down the pipe to deal with the current (stupid) Genie+ situation.

Just read through from first to last post. Didn't see anything mentioned or questioned about AP holders. DW & I have APs. We are traveling with DS, DDs and their spouses in July. They all have prepaid genie+ tickets. AP cannot get the prepaid genie+ and we have to do it morning of. So....what's going to happen if sold out? I do the MDE plans? Are we going to have major issues? I'm thinking yes.

I think variable pricing is absolutely the reason for this. They can charge $25 pp Christmas Week, and maybe $15 in September when there is less demand. But choosing to have everyone slam Disney's IT at the same time is definitely setting the system up for failure. And none of it solves the ultimate problem which is the lack of ride capacity in every park except MK. UO/IOA has 30 attractions split almost evenly between the parks and that doesn't include shows. If WDW had an average of 15 rides per gate they could have a simple express system that didn't require timed reservations. But instead of rides they keep building hotels to just add to the crowds. Hollywood studios could use at least five more rides spread between kid-friendly and e-ticket, Epcot needs about 4 more, and AK needs like 7-8 more rides.

I don't think they've ever sold out and if they start raising the prices, I really don't think that is an issue. You may end up paying alot more than them though if predictions come true.

From the Genie+ thread: - If unable to purchase online, call 1-407-939-4357. It opens up around 6 AM and is for AP holders who can’t buy Genie+ because the rest of their party already has Genie+ on their tickets. Hopefully that will help, if you can’t buy via MDE day-of. Good luck!

I am trying to purchase Genie+ on the website now, before the June 8th cutoff, and the link just takes me to a page to purchase park tickets. Does anyone know if this is a glitch due to people rushing to buy, or have they already shut off sales? We have tickets but hadn't added Genie to them yet.

One thing to keep in mind with comparing Universal is when quoting the higher price remember that's unlimited ride throughs. Universal does have a once ride through option that is usually significantly less (for a reason). With Disney's Genie+ and ILL options they were only ever once through. With FP you could re-ride so long as the FP was available. With FP+ you couldn't select the same attraction more than once when you pre-booked it but you could end up re-riding a ride once there so long as the FP was available.
Just look at the date June 18:
Universal 1x ride express pass is $269
Universal unlimited express pass is also $269

You can’t add genie to already purchased tickets using the website. You need to call.

You can add it at midnight when you’re on the day you want genie, but you can’t add them in advance if you purchased tickets without genie… unless you call

Yeah, I have thought about that too. Especially with the VQ in there.
Someone suggested they might go the DL route where you can buy once you are in the park, so I guess that would spread it out a little.
I wonder how many more people would RD to be assured of getting G+ then. Probably even more than currently are.

That's not what I'm seeing.

They are not the same price for that day and in fact Unlimited is sold out for IOA for a 1 park for that day. If you have park to park tickets it's not sold out.

Right now what I see as a quick glance $30/per difference starting variance. I'll retract my "significantly less" phrasing between once through and Unlimited because for someone that may not be that much difference. That part depends on how someone is traveling, how many days they'll have and what the price is to begin with.

I am assuming the answer is nope, but can you add it to a room-only 2023 reservation that already exists?

I have this same question and concern. My travel party all already have tickets with prepaid genie+. If I’m not able to purchase the morning of as an AP holder I’m going to be so upset…

The only thing worse than having to wake up at 6:45 am every morning would be having to freaking rope drop every morning just to purchase genie+. That would definitely push me over the edge into selling DVC and calling it quits.

Yeah I have two trips right now with mixed media where hte day ticket holders have already prepurchased. If some but not all of us are able to get genie+ that's going to be a nightmare.

For those of us who have prepaid for Genie+ with our tix wonder what that will mean if they change it before then. So glad we bit the bullet and did it, primarily because we didn’t want to do both the midnight and 7 am thing.

You can add Genie+ to tickets using the website. I just did. I should mention that I have standalone tickets and not a package. Don't know if that makes a difference.

Vindicates my decision to add it in advance - but only because I was cynical they'd put the price up before we got there!

I just added it to a package I had already booked for November.
