According to an ultimately reliable source over the next few months there will be another savannah added at the end of the safari which will have about 30 zebras in it, and close to the road (possibly even driving through the herd). The Poacher camp will be eliminated and the truck with the animatronic elephant will also be eliminated.

Although this will be a major change the safari will continue operating as the changeover is being done, but there may be construction vehicles and equipment visible to the Guests.

It will take until early summer for this changeover to be completed.

Aren't those 2 scenes essentialy the backs of other animal enclosures for walkthrough areas?

Thank goodness! The whole "poacher" thing was a pointless excuse to add a "thrill" component (look ma, we're going less slow!) to what is supposed to be an observe-the-animals experience.

And it was completely hokey, even by Disney standards.

Ditching it for more animal areas works for me.

I thought it was cool back in the beginning when the jeep in the jungle still worked and fired shots at you, but just like everything else, when it breaks, it doesnt get fixed.

To tell you the truth I award thought the original was lame and thus is an imporovent but I'd rather money be spent fixing the thousands of broken or turned off effects in Dinosaur!

agreed ( dinosaur, that is)

X2...

of all the "based on guest demand" changes to how the bas...i mean "management" has run the place since the last good day of disney (the opening day at blizzard beach...by my estimate)...the most frustrating is that they refuse to shave the profits to at least fix what they have. That represents a slap in the face to all those customers who have shown an amazing amount of loyalty and patience...

But hey...i'm sure the surveys say otherwise:banana:

I was a driver. And I have to say, Driving in the poaching scene was my favorite thing to do! I would just go as fast as possible. (a whole 8mph!)

But everyday I got questions about Zebras! I can see why they are changing it. Everyone likes Zebras... Unless you are a Tommy or sable antelope....

Do these species not get along with each other?

The zebras were taken off because they killed a baby sable. They picked it off from it's group, then ran it to death. They took them off to the side were no one could see them because they didn't know what else to do with them. I think if guest didn't complain about it they would probably still be there. The only place you could see them was on the bridge. But you would have to look to the left as the bridge was falling. I never could because I was driving but one day I sat in the back and saw one.

Thanks for the info KyleJake. How very sad. I always assumed the hooved animals were compatible or friendly with one another. Very "Snow White" of me, I know.

I always thought it was important on the safari that guests were reminded that many species are in danger because of poaching. However, as other posters have mentioned, the way it was presented did seem a bit on the silly side. The issue of poaching is brought up on the overhead monitors in the queue and that is a much more appropriate area I believe, rather than on the ride itself.

I will miss the brief moment of going faster, it was fun after all, and I'll miss Little Red. But I am looking forward to another beautifully landscaped area of the savannah and the return of the zebras.

This made me LOL.

The fast (or less slow) part has always been one of my favorite parts, even if I did always think the poaching part was cheesy. I know I've heard a lot of stories where kids believed it was real though.

But when I read on another site that they were taking the animatronics out of the safari my first thought was "there are animatronics on the safari?". I had to read the article to figure out what the heck they were talking about. Somehow the baby elephant completely slipped my mind. I'll probably be totally cool with it being gone as long as they give another reason to go less slow.

I am glad that the poacher story is being dropped. We can now all enjoy a fabulous safari.
