A co-worker of mine works for Airtran and he told me they had a meeting to announce a MAJOR one day sale this Tuesday, October 30th.

They will be charge one price, a very LOW one, one way to everywhere Airtran flies!

They plan to announce this in the newspapers Tuesday and by email to their Net Escapes subscribers.

Airtran flies from 35 cities, one of which, of course, is Orlando!

Thanks for the information, Robin!! I need a cheap airfare to Florida!! :) Thanks!

I'm jumping over right now to sign up for their e-mail. Keep your fingers crossed:earsboy:

I am very excited about this, we need 5 flights in March of this year. I checked the destination cities and they work for us (for once!). The rates right now are already great so if they dicount it even more it will be wonderful. My question is when I called Airtran and asked a couple of questions, not about the sale Tuesday just general information, they said that their Netscape users sometimes got additional discounts. Not being a netscape subscriber, I am wondering if this will be available to everyone or just them. I assume if they are putting it in the papers it will be for everyone, does anyone know if you have to buy them on the internet or if you can call? Any further information would be great!!

Thanks for the Tip:) :) :)

My friend tells me that this sale will be for the general public. I do have a netscape account and I do get emails regularly from them, but did not know that they did that!

He also wanted me to tell you all that the sale WILL have black out dates, which bugs me because I usually travel during the holidays because of my son's school, but with these rates, I'm going anywhere!!

tee hee... :D

Nothing yet. Still says no sales available. Will check first thing in the morning! Thanks for the info. Pam

I got the email this morning. Seems like the sale is out of Atlanta only. $36 one way and $31 one way if booked on the internet.

Atlanta is a connecting city for just about ANYWHERE Airtran flies. Check how it will work for your city on www.airtran.com

Here's the info:

On December 12, 2001, AirTran Airways starts service to
Baltimore/Washington International Airport. In celebration of this
milestone, we are offering $36 for travel one-way between Atlanta and
any city we serve.

This $36 to 36 cities sale is available for sale TODAY, October 30,
2001, ONLY.

Travel is valid on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday
through February 13, 2002. You must purchase your tickets at least 7
days prior to departure, but no later than October 30, 2001.

Travel may originate in either city. All fares are one-way and don't
require roundtrip purchase.

Black out dates are November 20,21,24,25,26 and December
21,22,23,28,29,30, 2001 and January 2,3,6, 2002.

Hope this helps someone!

I booked my sister from Dulles to Atlanta and myself Altanta to Orlando.

Coworker booked her daughter MI to Atlanta

Their website is busy (getting a lot of hits) today so it may take time to get there.

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH ROBIN for the heads up.

and is on a Sat. they couldn't give me the sale fare because"they only had a limited # available" I asked how many seats they were authorized to sell. of course that # was confidential. yada yada. Oh well. And the funny thing is I called first thing this am and there were no seats available at that time. I finally called the corporate office after waiting 25 minutes on the phone at the 1-800 # and they were no help either. Wasn't meant to be I guess. :(

So thanks to the Dinsey Cruise Line Special of a $99 3-day cruise for those taking a 4 or 7 day cruise in January, I'm already spending more money than I was planning this time of year. To help save on this I was planning on driving down to Orlando in January. Now thanks to this thread, I will be flying after all - After taxes I'm flying round trip from Atlanta to Orlando for $74.74 per person. An unbelievable rate that I just couldn't pass up. My poor credit cards are rubbing off from all the times I keep pulling them out of my wallet.

By the way - It took many MANY attempt to get through on the web site, and then MANY more attempt at each step of the way to get the reservation confirmed - the site is really being hammered - If you're trying to get a reservation - keep trying - it can be done.

The cheapest I could get out of Atlanta is $124 one way. I'll keep trying! And congrats to you!

From my experience:

Be careful you're not trying to book on a Friday or Sunday - these days don't have the special rate. Also certain times during each day that does have the special rate are higher - I just had to be flexible.

So for my cruise I'm flying in on a Saturday rather than Sunday, and spending the night at AmeriSuites for $65. On Thursday I'll be able to fly back the afternoon after the cruise.

Also it seems you have to use Airtran's own website- Expedia and Travelocity don't have the special rate.

Did I misread this? Isn't it $36 (or $31 via the net) each way ONLY to or from ATLANTA? How would this do anyone any good if you don't live near Atlanta? Are there specials say from Charlotte or Greensboro, NC to Orlando or would it be virtually NC to Atlanta then Atlanta to Orlando, thus $72 each way, thus $144 round trip? That may be a good fare, but certainly not great. Am I missing something here?

Thanks!!

(It's been a long week -- and it's only Tuesday!!!)

I have been trying all day to get on the web site to see if I could get the sale fare, I havent been able to. I have called and called and called......always busy busy busy. I give up.:(

ckr: no you're not missing anything here. I checked AirTran's fares last week from NC to Orlando - it was $120 rt. Right now on Travelocity you can get RDU to MCO $116rt. So you're right, this is no sale at all for us, it's actually a higher price. Phooey!!!

Winnie,

It did take me quite a bit of time to make the reservation - probably about 15-20 minutes of hitting refresh to even get to the web site, and probably another 45 minutes to complete the transaction. But for me - it was worth it. It will cut 20 hours of driving time, and I'm flying 5 people round trip for $373.70.

You're welcome, Belle, but of course, we LIVE in Atlanta!

Sorry to the others who could not get a deal from this. It is only a deal for those who $72 one way is a deal if they cannot fly out of Atlanta. Right now my sister is going NUTS trying to book a flight to Newark. For us its a big deal! :D

I had to call a lot but finally got thru (after a 20 min wait!) The sale fares were not available for some reason or another on my date of travel. But it is worth the wait if you can get the sale fare! Good luck!!

The ad says you can use this from either point, so for the $36 between Atlanta and Hobby (Houston), I could leave from Houston TO Atlanta and then take Atlanta to Orlando for a one way from Houston to Orlando of $72 and a round trip for $144, which is still pretty cheap. Is that right?
