Maintenance fee question (inspired by the BCV damage thread)

SSR is my home resort and that's where I pay maintenance fees, obviously, but are those fees truly only used for SSR or do they go into a "pool" to be used for all DVC maintenance?

I've been reading about the damage to the BCV and how the people who own there are upset about having their maintenance monies being used to repair the damages by the guests and I was curious if that was truly the case or we all pay for that upkeep.

I haven't read the BCV thread but to answer your question -- dues are based on the costs for each individual resort. There is some overlap in that we all contribute to the reservation (MS) group but the cost is portioned based on the size of the resort. However, if BWV needs a new roof, it comes out of only BWV funds. The resorts don't "share" operating and upkeep costs.

Also, to keep things in perspective, I believe there are over 3 million points at BCV. Just $.01 in dues would equate to $30,000 per year payable by all members combined. Something tells me they can replace an awful lot of nicked coffee tables with members experiencing minimal financial hardship.

Besides, while we could (and certainly will) debate issues such as housekeeping or Cast Member quality among the resorts, I kinda doubt that BCV guests, as a whole, are treating the furniture any differently than guests at other resorts.
