We are heading to FW in about a month from Fri to Fri. There will be 8 of us traveling in our motor home. My DH, DD, her DS's (13 & 10) and DD (8), DD friend and her DS (5). We are taking 2 days down and 2 days back to Maine. :dance3:

I have camped at FW many times (6x) but many years ago (1994 being the last time)when my DD was younger, 2 step DDs and we were in tents. Have enjoyed reading all the forums which I came upon while searching out golf cart info. We own a cart but no back seat so won't be bringing our own. We are renting from outside. :cool1:

Am anxious to see how much FW has changed since we camped there last. From photos posted, it looks like there is less privacy between sites. We are excited and can't wait!:yay::yay::yay:

Before the Disney vacation, my DH and I are heading to Loudon, NH for the big NASCAR race week coming right up. Quite a different type of camping there right at the track. Totally dry camping for 10 days! Sounds like it could be a bit cool too:eek:

AS Sports (2x), ASM (2x), Last Disney vacation PC 2006.

7yr cancer survivor!:cutie::banana::cheer2::woohoo:

Just chiming in to wish you a fun and safe trip. My only advice is to split up at times because the younger child will not be able to ride and keep up the same pace as the teens. That's it. Good luck.

Love college football and WDW!!

Lucky for us, my daughter doesn't like the rides the 5 yr old can't ride so we are good to go! She's a wimp! :rotfl2:

Dry camping at the race track is alot of fun.
We do it a lot.
Not NASCAR racing, but drag racing.
Just takes some planning.
We have gotten to where we can go on the fresh water that our MH holds for a full week without refilling.
Of course we have to trickle drain the gray tank.
The black tank is no issue.

I hope that you will post a trip report when you are finished with your trip. Everyone here loves to read a good trip report and live through others' trips while we wait for our next one.

Have a great trip and please share your experiences and pictures with us when you return.

We love taking the camper to the infield at Pocono, 8 miles from home and the best place to people watch! As for your drive, safe travels and have a great time!

Have a great trip! We will be going down in December! Also a cancer survivor! Wishing you the best and have a magicial vacation!

Maine to WDW in 2 days. Wow, thats a lot of traveling! We haven't done the drive yet (next summer) but figured it would take us about 3 days from MA. Of course, we're still pretty new at it and haven't traveled that distance before.

Safe travels! Please post a trip report. I just love reading about the Fort.

We travel from New Hampshire and it takes us 3 days. We usually arrive late morning of the third day.Good luck in your travels. We put in a good 9 to 10 hr days.
:cool1:

Had a great trip to Loudon NH Speedway! Dry camping is fun and we have a great many friends we have met over the years that we camp with there.

Will certainly let everyone know how our first motor home trip to Ft Wilderness goes. We are checking in on Friday Oct 14th. If anyone sees a motor home with Maine license plates that say PITSTOP on them, you will know it's me and my crew! WAVE!!

Have you guys gone to any of the other racetracks in the last 5 years or so? I could swear I have seen that license plate somewhere.

We were in Martinsville with that plate a few years back. I believe it was 2007. We camped at that track to. Could it be? :confused3

We have always done the trip in two days from NH. We left on Friday afternoon around 3:00pm just when the kids got out of school. Traveled to the PA border and stayed in a campground. Left at 4:00am and traveled until about 7:00pm Left at 4:00am again on Sunday and usually got in to FW around 5:00pm. We don't go into the parks on Monday we just lay low and enjoy the fort.

Glad to see someone else doesn't think we are cracked ... It's only just over 1500 miles to Disney from here. We have driven the trip many times in a car and did it driving straight through in 24 hours the last being in May of 2011! We don't plan on driving straight through but see no reason why in leaving Weds night we would be there by Friday check in. :yay:

We are leaving on Oct 15 from Connecticut to Fort Wilderness. Two day drive -- 1st day is roughly 15 hours to South Carolina, 2nd day 10 hours to FW. I average a rest stop every 1 1/2 hours, fill gas tank every 3 hours (I always start thinking about fuel when I get below 1/2 tank). I also stop and take a break whenever I feel I want to -- I don't push myself driving. Wife does some driving on long, easy stretches.

On the way down, we leave early (12am - 3am) so get through New York taffic easily. Way back can be tough if timed wrong. We are planning on going way around New Jersey and north of New York City.

smacca, what is your planned route? I am looking at I95s - I287 - I78 - I81 - I77 - I26 - I95s - to Disney

Those sound correct for the routes we are taking. We avoid I95 until we are south of DC due to traffic and my DH hates I95!

Say hello if you happen to see our MH! We will be in a preferred site which they told us would be in loop 100, 200 or 300 I believe.:cool1:

My husband will be the one with no hair from pulling it out on the way down! :rotfl:

smacca1956, where are you driving from? I just googled the milage and it's 1544 miles from Bangor... are we almost neighbors?? Hope you have a great trip, I am jealous!!

We live in Lewiston but home will always be Camden to me..that is where I grew up and all family is still there!

We made it with plenty of stops for DH to rest in about 36 hours!
