Anyone have any suggestions for hotels on the lower Maine coast (Wells, Ogunquit area) that aren't a complete deal breaker? I know it is high season, but I am hoping to do 2nights at $150 or less if I can. Mid August

Any suggestions? There are soooooooo many hotels, but I don't know which ones are nice.

try tripadvisor.com
it will give you reviews as well as an idea on price.
We've stayed at Gorges Grant.

I live in Maine.

You picked literally the most expensive 2 towns in the most expensive time of the month. You honestly will not get oceanfront for that price. There are some cute places in that area though, but I'd HIGHLY recommend looking at non-ocean front.

One of my favorite places in that area is Sleepytown in Wells - they have cottages, free breakfast and a trolly that stops nearby to take you to the ocean (it's not their trolly, it's the town of Wells and goes to several places).

Unfortunately there area lot of dives in that area as well as nice places.

Maybe consider staying outside of those towns and driving in during the day?

LOL!!! I know! I know!! We live in the Boston area, and usually go to NC beaches every summer, but just can't do it this year. We've never spent much time on the Maine shore and wanted a "beach town" kind of feel. You know, salt water taffy, fried clams, sand in my toes. I will check out sleepytown. Any other reccomendations besides these two towns? Thanks!

last summer we did a last minute get away to maine, stayed at Garrison Suites in Wells,
not ocean front, but you can see the ocean and its right at the beginning of the road that leads over to the beach,
the hotel itself was extremely clean, the grounds, the rooms, everything, and I think we only paid $125 a night and that was in July.

:thumbsup2 Last year we stayed the the Lafayette in Wells in a Ocean front room...this year I was going to book a few nights:scared1: it was 280. a night but with a 4 night min:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1: wont be going there this years:headache::headache:

You can stay at my house!! LOL

But seriously I don't know if it because I live here or what. But ocean front is so expensive. It must be the high property taxes. I would look into Garrison also. Some of the place around here are icky and pricey.

We've stayed at Juniper Hill before. Granted that was in Feb. so not sure on prices in the summer.

There's a nice Comfort Inn on route 1 in Kennebunk. A short drive to the beaches there.

We used to go to Ocean Park every year when I was a kid. It's right next to Old Orchard Beach, so there's always lots to do down on the pier. We would stay literally 3 houses in from the beach, so it was within walking distance, but cheaper than being right on the beach. It is also much quieter than Old Orchard Beach, but close enough to to the activities that you can have just about any kind of vacation you want. This place has a kitchenette for $159 a night during the time you are looking for. There are tons of place like this, so if you look, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find something in your price range.
