I'm wondering the same thing. I have an Aladdin OTG scheduled but I will cancel if it's not worth it. We only have one day for the parade/fireworks.
Although I'm not too concerned because we've seen MSEP at WDW.
(And we're east coasters so who knows if the kids will want to stay for it)
I've effectively lived in California my whole life. I've been to Disneyland almost yearly for 50 years, and I've viewed all the nighttime shows & parades. I have a family of four, and I've never camped out for a viewing area. We generally show up to the viewing area somewhere just minutes before the show starts, and we've never had any viewing problems. When the kids were younger, we would occasionally hold them up to see better though.
I would say that you are going to see pretty much every show fill up from now until the end of the run, we only have a little over two weeks left and contrary to what some may hope, this will definitely be the last run of the MSEP unless they rebuild ALL of the floats from the ground up, they are getting to be in very bad condition, which is one of the reasons many of the floats are missing, they simply didn't make the trip to or from Florida.
As for the last week (week before and including August 20th), I would say if you want a guaranteed spot, get a dining package. If you want to go on the last night, plan on getting into the park before noon, my guess is Disneyland will reach capacity by 2 P.M. that day.
The only exception to this is if Disney somehow decides to extend through Labor Day, which I could see, but it really won't last much beyond that.
What are the meal choices for AO? We did BB dining package in March and it was definitely worth it. Just the kids and I are going again later this month and I am thinking about doing AO but want to make sure there will be something decent for my sometimes picky eater.
