maid locked us out!!! really! lol

just want to reiterate what I said when I accidentally posted under hubby's name.

we used the Privacy sign (do not disturb) all week long, we rarely use the maid service. I thought we put it up, but when I got back there, I couldn't find it. :confused3 in retrospect, from now on, I will make sure to call anyways, to make sure they know we are not done with our room.

hubby and I both explained we were not done with the room. once she found that out, she should have left.

A locked door? Humm I can think of so many senerios that in no way has the cleaning staff locking a door then on top of that won't open room up to the correct resort guests.

Just plain weird.

rereading this whole thread. guess I was too brief (for the sake of brevity? ;))

hubby went back first. door wasn't locked. he went in, told her we haven't checked out yet. argues a bit, but not too much.. didn't think it wise for a male to argue with a female in a hotel room. gave up and left.

now, we have a cheapo pay-as-you-go cell phone, just for emergencies when I work nights and am on the road, and for on vacations. that's all we need. so I didn't know about this when I went back to the room.. he had already left,.

this is when I found the door bolted. and when I finally convinced her to open it, I told her that we hadn't checked out yet. yes, there was a language barrier, (as I stated earlier, her nametag said Columbia). but she understood, but had already cleaned most of the room and didn't want us back in.

I still think she took that privacy sign. couldn't find it anywhere. either way. no harm no foul. just leave, come back later. she would NOT leave.

again, I founmd it rather comical. never wanted to get her in trouble, still will not call or email guest relations, try to get something "for free". .. now I know to call if I plan on using my room for the entire time I am paying for it!!!:rotfl: and so will you guys!!!! :rotfl2:

Because she had already cleaned the room for the next guest, she did not want to clean it again. I totally understand. Once you left the room and took all your stuff, the room was open for cleaning for the next person and you relinquish the room.

Too funny! I disagree that the room was vacated if you had the privacy (Dnd) sign up. I've been many places when they try to push you out. This is comical and sounds like something that would happen to us. :).

:confused3
No, it's once you check out. Not once you take your stuff out to the car and leave the room. The room is yours until you check out. She shouldn't have cleaned it until the OP checked out.

Sorry OP shouldn't have happened...

knock on door. a nice woman CM asks if everything is ok. I answer "yes, now that she left. and I explained. she apologized. and left.. now the maids cart is in front of a room down the hall, and a few minutes later I see a guy who looks like security pass by, and go talk to her. I stay out of it.

I feel bad, cause I didn't want her to get in trouble, but I didn't tattle!! I didn't call! all she had to do was say, "I'll come back later" and leave. (oh, she took the tip I left, though ;))
yes, I understand, since we were packed up, itlooked like we were gone, but when she found out we weren't, that should have been it.
no I did not write to guest services or anything, don't want her in anymore trouble, don't want anything for free. just wanted to use our room:confused3

You didn't get her in trouble. She got herself in trouble. She made an assumption you had left and was wrong. She kicked out your DH, bolted the door and argued with you when you tried to access the room you had every right to still be in. She dug her own grave when she called her supervisor. Now she'll probably ask people if they are checking out if she sees them in the hall to the point of harrasment. ;)

Check out is not until 11a. Until someone officially checks out or 11a rolls around the room remains the guests. Its been paid for until check out... It isnt the OPs fault the maid started cleaning the room early.

:confused3 You don't relinquish the room until you check out or it is 11 am

What would she have done if she came in the room and they left their carry ons still in the room? Put them in the hall? I'm sorry but my room is mine until 11 after that they have a right to do whatever sign or no sign. I'm with the OP I would have been heated if the door was bolted. She was completely in the right. I understand that they have a schedule and lots of rooms to clean but there are plenty of ppl that get a early start out start with those rooms. To argue with a guest that has not checked out, not right.

I don't think I have physically checked out of a hotel room in years. If there is a drop box in the lobby to recycle the room card, i drop it in on my way out, if not I just leave. The maid thought the OP had checked out as she was due to depart that morning and the room was empty.

In the future, use the do not disturb card to hold the room, or use the bathroom in the lobby.

If your items were in the room, she would have gone on to the next on her list, as your bags left in the room would indicate that you were still on property. When you completely clear your luggage and possessions from the room, the maid thought you were long gone and was trying to do her job.

sigh. I already stated that I understand what she thought. (although I still say I left the privacy sign and she removed it or it fell. we had it on most of the trip).

we often check in early and get "pixie dusted" by the room being available much earlier than 3 pm, and I'm sure it is because of people leaving early. which is often us., when we drive.

yes, okeydoke, since the advent of express check out. I'm sure it's confusing for the maids. next time, besides leaving the privacy sign on the dorr, I will call (even though I don't have to) to make matters clear. one of the reasons I posted this, to "warn" others to do the same.

but, we were NOT done with OUR room. and it doesn't matter WHY we wanted the room. I just told that to add a little humour to the story (as in hubby's trip reports.. gotta have a laugh!) maybe we wanted one last piece of pound cake(stephen king;11/22/63 fans will get this). maybe one of us was sick. I forgot to add that I did want to check the weather in chicago one last time, to see whichjacket to wear.
besides all this, she should have nicely said, "oops, sorry, I'll come back later. period.

once at the restaurant, I had a table leave. (or so I thought) they had paid, I cleared the table (no bus boy), and back they were. they had gone out for a smoke. did I moan "but you left! you paid, your jackets were gone! I cleaned the table already!" nope. I went and got them each another cup of coffee and they stayed for another 20 minutes chatting.I was profusely apologizing the whole time, for clearing their table.
and we all laughed at the mistake.

and no, I didn't call and complain, rant and rave. I didn't send an email to guest services, nor will I. not looking for anything free. it was a minor inconvenience. Ididn't even post it to "vent", just to share and have a laugh, as I thought it was actually comical.

You are right, it is a good lesson for others to be clear about their intentions. The housekeeper really should not have argued with you, that crossed the line of good customer relations. Thanks for the heads up.

I completely get WHY she thought they had left, but the minute they came back and said they weren't gone she should've exited the room with no further argument even if she was already in the process of cleaning it. To bar the door and engage in the other behavior is just plain crazy for ANY hotel, much less a Disney property. I understand why ... but for you to suggest that once the maid cleaned the room then the OP relinquished it, even though it was before 11 and the OP had NOT checked out, well I just don't understand that argument. :confused3

Movin' on.

bingo! and thank you!

Totally disagree that a guest should have to go out of there way to make sure the staff knows that have not checked out.

Calling the maid service to advise them you are in fact, not leaving until 11a regardless of baggage being in the room is not something anyone should have to do.

The room is paid for until 11a. If the maids are going to make assumptions, then they should assume that someone is using the room until 11a unless notified otherwise via DME service being utilized or a guest physically checking out.

This situation is a tad different since the maid actually argued and barred the door.

, or use the bathroom in the lobby.

how did I miss this? sorry, I don't pay disney prices for a room to" use the bathroom in the lobby" . not that it's anyone's business, but many people have problems with using public bathrooms for anything but a quick, um, pee.
there are a few other reasons I could ennumerate, but I won't.
we both would have a problem with those bed and breakfast type places where you share a "bath". but it seems rather snarky to tell me where I should go to the bathroom, when I paid for a private room with a private bathroom.

and again, it doesn't matter whywe wanted to use our room. we just did.

oh, did I mention that I also clean houses? there have been many times when I have cleaned something, only to have the people dirty it up again. (usually they are gone, but not always.) I still go around after cleaning to check. say, I already cleaned the stove, but the hubby was home, and made a pot of soup, and it boiled over. I clean it up. do I agrue with him? tell him, "I already cleaned thes tove, you can't use it!" ? nope.

CUSTOMER SERVICE. as a waitress, bartender, house cleaner, I know all about customer service, waiting on people, doing chores others would look their noses down on. because of that, I treat these type of employees very well, and tip very well.
but I do NOT expect to be locked out of my own resort room . my key still worked, it wasn't 11am, it was mine.

:thumbsup2 barring the door proved she knew we wanted to get in the room. had SHE "reinquished" our room when hubby first returned, she would have saved herself a lot of work and trouble.
