Magnavox blue ray player assistance

We purchased a Magnavox blue ray player and have been having problems trying to get the wireless internet connection to work. I do not understand, if I have a wireless connection that works for our lap top upstairs but yet will not work right for the DVD player, is this normal? The computer and router are downstairs and the player is upstairs. In some cases, it sounds like I need a Ethernet cable connected from the router to the player itself, that doesn't make sense. I thought that was the meaning of wireless. I also get a message that I have not fully set up the network right. It asks for all kinds of codes, like WEB/WPA. Sorry, the instructions are worthless!!!Can anyone offer me some help as to what I need to do. Sorry but I do not have the model number, it was in the 120.00 range of price Thank you

Did you by any chance get it from Walmart? We have a Magnavox we bought on black friday from Walmart and the current price is 118.00 and it works through wireless with no problems. My husband set ours up but if this is the one you have I will ask him to post you with the directions if you would like. You have to watch the wording when it comes to wireless and blu ray players because most blu ray players are only wireless ready and need a seperate adapter. Very few actually have the wireless built in. We checked this out very closely before making our purchase.

The other problem may be that the single on your wireless router is not strong enough to reach where you have the blu ray player at. Have you been able to use your laptop in that area in the past? There are different routers that you can purchase all depending on what you are going to be using it for.

I fell off the "computer age" train years ago and I do not have a great deal of understanding of terms that are used. Thank you very much for the offer. No problem I will have my husband send you the info. tomorrow. Being you got it at Walmart for around the 120 price I am sure it is probably the same one we bought so he will be able to help you out. I know you need to input the mac address in order for it to work. Which is probably the code it is asking your for. My husband deals with all of our network stuff or I would try to help you myself. Since I have him around I have not taken the time to learn it. LOL Too many things in our home are wireless. LOL We have 2 blu ray players, 2 laptops, Wii, and an xbox all hooked up to ours. With all that wireless stuff I should probably make him teach me though.

What usually needs to happen for a new wireless device...
1) Let the device 'search' for available wireless connections.
2) Once the correct connection is found, 'connect' to it.
3) If you've done the right thing with your wireless, you will be prompted to put in your security code (not the MAC address).
4) If the security code matches, you'll connect.

I do know there are blu ray players that are wireless READY, but don't have built in wireless... you need to purchase an adaptor. That may be the case here.

All I have been able to fiqure out is how to connect it to Vudu applications through the wireless connection. The red button on your remote across the top area will take you into Vudu. In vudu you can do facebook and a couple of other things and buy really expensive movies to watch. Well, maybe not really expensive but a whole lot more for new movies then heading over to your local redbox machine.

If anyone can fiqure out how to do more like search the web to hook into Netflix etc... on this blu-ray, please let me know. I would like to route through this instead of my wii.

also- OP, when it asks you to put in the security code, it is usually the WEP code and you can almost always find that on your actual router unit. It is usually there on the unit by the serial # etc... Just make sure you look at the letters because upper and lowercase counts with these things when you input them.

I'm not sure what you are asking me? We have a blu ray player with built in wifi. First you get your player on the wifi signal. When we start it up, the Netflix logo is there and we select it. You need a subscription to Netflix in order to use the service. Just plain streaming is $7.99 a month and to get 1 DVD at a time it is $9.99 a month. Worth every single penny.

I purchased this same Blu-ray player and am also having trouble getting the wireless set up... it cannot seem to find my wireless router... which has plenty of range because I use my laptop in that room all of the time.

Any input on how you are achieving this would be appreciated.

You have to watch the wording when it comes to wireless and blu ray players because most blu ray players are only wireless ready and need a seperate adapter. Very few actually have the wireless built in. We checked this out very closely before making our purchase.

This is also the case for the Sony Blu-ray player (BDP-S470) that was recently sold to Disney Movie Rewards members for a very low price. It can handle Wi-Fi, but with a seperate adaptor (which is no big deal for me, as I have AT&T U-verse as my TV provider and their set-top boxes double as internet access ports).

An FYI about the Black Friday Blu-Ray player:

There were 2 different ones that were sold. One has a model # of 5120 something. That one will ONLY stream Vudu, nothing else. The other is 5130 and will do Vudu, Netflix, Blockbuster, etc...and is fully wireless.

I got the 5120. When I gave it to dh he was researching it before we opened it to be sure it was a decent one. The reviews for the 5120 were not good, but they did tell us about the 5130. At the time both were on the walmart.com site and both for $118. In the reviews we learned that the Walmart ad was apparently for the 5130, but most places were selling the 5120. I took mine to my local Walmart (not the one I bought it at) and got the LAST 5130 there, they just did an even exchange.

My dh is happy with the 5130.

Neither is listed at walmart.com anymore, but you can probably google and get some of the same info that I was able to find in the reviews.

You have 90 days to exchange it. It hasn't been 90 days since Black Friday, so you should be able to take it back. It may be harder or not possible to convince them to let you even exchange it for the 5130 since they are different models and the price on your receipt may not be the current selling price for the 5130.

I'm so glad I did find out... instead of continuing to try to fight with it and thinking I'm an idiot who cannot even run a Blu-ray player... I'm definately going to Walmart tonight to see what I can get done!

I found this out before the player even arrived UPS. I did not open them (I had purchased 2) and took them straight to Walmart. I explained that they advertised that it would support netflix and that this doesn't. I asked for the 5130 model... They refused... manager refused! Everyone refused! I didn't want to pay full price for 5130, and I still believe I should not have had to. They advertised 5120 and supporting it, and it didn't!!!! I was very angry. I have decided not to #1.) purchase anything electronic without checking reviews/dis boards first. #2.)purchase electronics from Walmart in general.

Of course, it's been explained on Dis that Walmart.com & Walmart brick & mortar stores are two different entities. So it doesn't surprise me that a brick & mortar would refuse a return from an online sale. I think you need to contact Walmart.com about the misleading ad.

Yea, the Netflix logo is not on this practicular BuRay player, I am wireless and access Vudu, but it has no way I can find to access Netflix. I do have a netflix subscription and run it through my Wii, but would like to run it through this instead.
