Magicians & Jugglers & a Clown Slide, OH MY! We're going to the BWI... A Nov 2010 PTR

I don't know...it might go faster, because he wouldn't have to decide between things as much...
I'm sure you could make up a really cute certificate to give to him in place of the Gift Card for the time being.

True. There wouldn't be so much decision making, he could just get it all!! :rotfl:

Yes, I'm sure he won't mind a rain-check on the gift card, as long as he knows it's coming before we leave! ::yes::

Shelly - That pig castle rocks! Love the sharks! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Thanks Sea! :goodvibes

It's time to talk about DHS dining!

Places we have eaten:

Hollywood & Vine
Mama Melrose
Sci-Fi Dine In
Toy Story Pizza Planet
ABC Commissary

We had dinner once at Hollywood & Vine. It is a buffet and it was okay. I actually don't remember much about it. It must have been in 2007 or 2008. And I can't find any pics of it either. They must all be on the old computer.

We had dinner at Mama Melrose 2 times. Both times we had the Fantasmic package. We really enjoyed our first experience there. The atmosphere is very nice and the food was very good. The second time was nice but not as good as the first time. Both times service was extremely slow. But we had heard that prior to going and were ready for it.

We had lunch once and dinner once at Sci-Fi Dine In. Both times were very good. The second time was even better than the first. I think we just ordered different/better meals the second time. The milkshakes are the best! We have had excellent service and really enjoyed the atmosphere there! We can't wait to go back in November!

Our waiter was very friendly last year and grabbed my camera and got carried away with the pics and poses!!

We did lunch at Toy Story Pizza Planet twice. Both times were okay. It's pizza. It's Disney pizza. It's fair. Not great. Of course it is very bright and loud and crazy in there and the kids love it!

Last year we decided to try something new for CS at DHS since we had enough of Pizza Planet. So we ended up at ABC Commissary, despite all the bad things we had heard about it. It was okay. We just got burgers and fries. The buns were soggy. Yuck! The service was very good and the CM's were very friendly.

Our November dining plans for DHS are to have dinner at Sci-Fi again! That is our only ADR at DHS. Since we will probably spend at least 2 half days there we will need to find a CS to eat at. . . Not sure on that one yet. Any suggestions?

We usually end up stopping at Min & Bill's Dockside Diner for a quick snack too!

We have dined at all the places you mentioned plus 50's Prime Time and Brown Derby.

Love 50's Prime Time, love the meatloaf in fact have an ADR for there this trip, Brown Derby did not impress us at all, the reviews of late seem to be very good but when we ate there in '98 the food was ok but very skimpy portions, and that was the year we were traveling with My DS:littleangel: and his friend who were both 18 yr old HS football players, we left there with them still hungry. It was not worth the $

I have read that Starring Rolls is a good CS at DHS huge ham or turkey sandwiches and the best looking cupcakes you have ever seen but they are only open until 4pm I think. I plan on stopping there this trip

There is also another place I want to check out it is called the "Writers Place" or something I forget now what they have without digging out my trip notes but it sounded interesting.

DHS is lacking in food choices in my opinion.

Yes, DHS is definitely lacking in food choices. Especially for CS meals.

I've never been interested in 50's Prime Time or the Brown Derby for some reason. :confused3 50's PT just doesn't appeal to me and I don't know what it is about Brown Derby - seems overpriced or something.

Okay, I just looked up both of those CS menus~
Starring Rolls http://allears.net/menu/menu_srb.htm
Writer's Stop http://allears.net/menu/menu_ws.htm

I think Starring Rolls would be a better choice for lunch for us. Now I need to look at the DHS map and find out where it is. For as much as I love this park, I can't remember ever seeing it. . .

Thanks for the menu links..........you know I can not for the life of me remembering seeing either of those places myself while at DHS, I know last year we were not there for more than an hour or two before we left since Ddil had a panic attack because of the crowds, I think I only had a popcorn while I waited for them to ride TOT or R&R Coaster.
After looking at the menus I know what it was that interested me that I read about on the DIS at the Writers Stop, the carrot cake cookie

Ooh, I have lots to say!
Like that's something new for me????:confused3

Okay, I have been to Writer's Stop many many times. Love it there. It's near Sci Fi. Walk past ABC commissary, then past SciFi and go right. Bam. You run into it. Shelly, there isn't much there you'd like I don't think, but you might want to pop in for a little cookie or something. It's more like a Starbucks, only it has books for sale inside. We go for the coffee. Best in DHS- it's the real stuff.

Starring Rolls is close to Brown Derby. If you're standing at the beginning of Sunset Blvd, looking towards TOT, it's on your left, before BD. I have not eaten there, but have been inside looking for real coffee and the sandwiches look good. It's crowded, so get there right at 11:30 if you are eating lunch.

We ate at Brown Derby once- it was just okay for us but not worth the money. I'd go back if I wanted a nice place inside the parks, away from the noise.

50's PT - we had an ADR in 2008 and cancelled b/c the more I thought about it- the more I realized it would not go over with Belle very well with her eating issues, having someone telling her to eat her vegetables. So we've never been there.

We always eat at Backlot Express, I think is the name of it-- near the HISTK playground. But it looks like they changed the menu so I don't know if we'll eat there anymore. We used to get the Greek salad, but they don't have it on there now.

Pizza Planet--- now that Belle has decided to eat pizzas- it will be on our to do list. We ate there in 2006 and 2007 but haven't been back b/c of her.

Sci Fi--------- we ate in the same car as you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cute pics!!!

ABC Commissary-- we've never eaten there, the menu looks blah to me, but we do like to get coffee from Writer's stop and go sit outside of ABC and listen to the music loop there. It's fun!!!!!!:3dglasses

Mama Melrose............. Didn't care for it. Not sure I could ever talk Mark into going back.

Okay then...... I'm a blabber mouth today.:upsidedow

Hey, a cookie is a good enough reason to go somewhere! :thumbsup2

I thought you might have lots to say! :rotfl:

I'll have to send DH to Writer's Stop if he wants some good coffee.

I don't know why I can't picture where either of them are - Writer's or Starring Rolls. :confused3 I do understand your directions though!

Okay, we will be sure to get to Starring Rolls for an early lunch.

I know where Backlot Express is. We've been past it many times. Nothing there has really interested me though. :confused3 I don't know if Belle will like the pizza at Pizza Planet or not. DS8 doesn't think it is very good. Too much sauce and too many spices.

I was thinking the same thing about DS and 50's Prime Time. He wouldn't take well to someone who doesn't know his issues telling tim to finish his meal.

I forgot you didn't care for Mama Melrose. I should have known, I like it - so you wouldn't!! :upsidedow:laughing:

We ate in that same car both times we have been at Sci-Fi! :rotfl:

DHS food.............. it could use some work. We had a hard time just FINDING some CS there and when we did it was just edible, not spectacular. We have eaten at the burger joint near TOT and Pizza Planet.

We have also eaten at the Sci Fi and really thought it was good. I had one of the best meals ever at Mama Melrose, but DH's was disgusting! I'd like to try 50's PTC but I wonder if the waitresses would bother my DD. I don't think she would understand that it was an act. I would never use 2 credits to eat at BD though. Just doesn't sound good enough for that. I've heard people suggest that you pay oop and just get the cobb salad. We may do that one day.

It seems like we always ended up eating really late back at the food court at Pop or ASMo on our DHS days b/c the pickings are so slim in the park! Maybe next time we will head to DTD and eat at Wolfgang Puck Express. The food there tastes like TS quality, but it is CS. It would also be a good opportunity to try a resort restaurant after leaving the park.

Yes, finding a good CS meal at DHS can be hard. :sad2:

We actually prefer the resort food courts to any of the CS park restaurants. That's the one thing we are going to miss about not staying at a moderate this time -- no food court. That's probably why we picked the BWI, there's lots of food to choose from in the area! :rotfl:

I agree, WPE is very good food. And a great deal if you are on the DDP! :thumbsup2

Yummy DHS food.....

Let's see in DHS i have eaten st Sci Fi, H&V, 50's prime time, Commissary... of all I like Shelly felt Commissary was eh ok... food was not spectacular.... and the first time i went to Sci fi i really didn't like it but it could have been the meal I had because I gave it a 2nd chance and I LOVED it.....

Jo - yeah Belle prob would not have like people telling her she had to eat....

I'm actually startin gto think about what ADR's i want to make for my trip coming up....

OK - talking DHS food!!!

We have had TS at Mama Melrose and liked it well - it also was Fantasmic package and a bit slow. Really it wasn't the bad service slow, but more, it just takes a long time to get through all the courses (we got apps w/the package) or something. But like you, we had expected that. It was very busy. Plus it rained, so no one was in a hurry to get outside!
We recently had lunch at Brown Derby. I thought it was good, DH was not so impressed that it should be a 2TS restaurant. I agree, if you go, pay out of pocket. I mean, the girls had a hot dog and grilled cheese! Not too fancy! It's a nice restaurant, service was great!
We have yet to eat at SciFi, but I plan to remedy that next trip! (whenever that will be!) It's really the only place left at DHS I am interested in trying.
For CS, we liked Starring Rolls, but we got breakfast pastries there. Never tried the sandwiches, but they sure look good!
We have gotten burgers/chicken nuggets from Rosie's All American Cafe down on Sunset Blvd. Nothing special, but not disgusting either! It's a good place to grab stuff if you're by TOT or B&TB or waiting for Fantasmic.

Would you consider taking the boat back over to the BW/BC/YC area for a meal? You could go to Beaches and Cream!

We've only eaten at DHS one time, at Toy Story Pizza Planet. So-so pizza, but that was what we expected!

We left for our dinner ADR by taking the boat to Epcot and going to San Angel Inn. None of the TS restaurants at DHS appealed to me, but those milkshakes in your pic at Sci-Fi look delicious! The food doesn't look bad, either. Is that your salad with cheese fries on top? :upsidedow

One of the things I'm really excited about staying in a Moderate is the food courts. Both POR and CBR have awesome menus. The food at AKL got tired after a couple days.

They really should do something about the food at DHS. If I get to book my trip I doubt I'll get an ADR for there. We've done 50's once and Sci Fi twice. We enjoyed both places, but I'm not sure that they'd be worth the time and money again. I'm sure I'll go to Hollywood & Vine when I have toddlers and the Brown Derby is pricey. There's Mama Melrose, but I feel like there are so many places to get Italian at Disney World, so its not my first choice.

You have been to a lot of DHS restaurants too! I was glad we went back to Sci-Fi for a second time too. The first time was good and the second time was much better! :goodvibes

Maybe you should make some ADR's now just in-case the January trip happens! :wizard:

Yeah, everything seemed to take a long time at MM. Each course took forever, and it was crowded too!

You should definitely try Sci-Fi next time! :thumbsup2

We probably wouldn't leave DHS to go back to the BW area for lunch and then come back. But, we have thought about going to Beaches & Cream sometime on this trip. What's good there? popcorn::

Yep, that was my steak salad after I made a few minor adjustments to it! :rotfl:

Shelly You have to get that Kitchen Sink if you go to Beaches and Cream and take a pic for us :)

We had lunch there when we stayed at YC I do not think they had the kitchen sink back then , at that time they had the largest burger in the world, DH and the boys all got one , I passed I think I took a bite of DH but they were the size of a dessert plate, huge  I haven't seen anyone mention those on here so they might not have it anymore.

You do have a lot of good places to eat staying at BW plus all the options over at YC/BC and even Swan and Dolphin.

I think it was mousesavers but not sure I get so many newletter, they had a link for Orlando coupons and there were some for S/D, also Planet Hollywood and Rainforest which I have read can be used at T-Rex I am gonna give it a shot and see if they take it

Awwww look at the lovebirds in the backseat at the drive in! :lmao:

Sci Fi is definitely on my list for our next trip. We've only ever done CS and I can't say much good about any of them. :sad2:

Sci-Fi is very good and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal there! I wouldn't mind going there at least twice the next time we are there. :D :cool1: We also would like to try Prime Time 50's - I completely forgot about this place when I planned the trip.

Loved the trip through DHS dining!! I had some great food there but the service wasn't the best but I would love to try it again!!! I loved the atmosphere! I hope you and your family have a 3rd great meal there!!!!

Shelly - we didn't actually eat at B&C - just some of our group got ice cream. We never managed to all go together to get the Kitchen Sink - next time for sure. But I have heard very good things about the burgers. They don't take ADRs, so going at an "off" time would be best.
