Magicbands

So the Earnings Report said a "probable full roll out of MyMagic+ in early 2014". This starts in Oct right...if you go by their fiscal calendar? That would make sense as early in the year they've been saying late fall 2013 release. So Sept should remain in testing then and I guess after that it will really be month by month?

Dumb question...when magic bands become public (we are going in January), are they only offered to people who book a package? How about room only? We are going with my husband who has a conference. Thanks!

The plan as far as we know it is EVERYONE staying on-site at a resort, plus Annual Passholders, will get a MagicBand. Others may purchase them for a fee (not currently known).

Thanks so much! I love all things Disney, but to be honest these freak me out a tad so I have ignored research on them for now ;). Will you be able to make your FP ressies 180 days out as well or is this undetermined yet? Thanks for dealing with my questions!

The plan is that you can make FP+ selections up to 60 days out, depending on your ticket (some classes of tickets may have different lead times).

I logged into my disney experience today and it gave me the option to sign up for the mymagic plus (or whatever it's called) and to order the magic bands for us. I chose the color and names and they are ready to be shipped. I went to sign up for the FP+ but realized I don't have my park tickets yet. I ordered them thru Orbitz and won't get them until the day before I'm in the parks. Once I'm in DTD at guest services getting the tickets, could they link those tickets to my magic bands??

i have mixed feelings about the fp+ but love the idea of the magicbands and hope i get to use them during my trip in december!

From what I'm understanding, everyone is either going to get a DFID card or a MagicBand. I really like the idea of the MagicBand, but when it goes live, will it be an extra cost? Will the MagicBand be free to resort guests?

Also from what I'm understanding, you can put your park tickets and resort reservation on the MagicBand through My Disney Experience. Can you do this even if you don't book tickets and resort through Disney?

First one (at least) is free for resort guests and AP holders. Non-resort guests will get a card, but can optionally purchase a MagicBand. At least that's the plan.

It's a bit different than that. You will have a profile in MDX. You can associate any Disney reservation to your profile, as long as you have the proper reservation number.

You can likewise associate a ticket purchased elsewhere to your profile, at least if it is a Magic Your Way ticket or AP (AP vouchers are a bit of an issue right now).

Then you'd have your MagicBand associated with your profile. More or less automagically, your MagicBand will operate just like the real ticket would. And upon check-in and room ready, it will open the room.

Well that's just neat. :3dglasses

Oh! Okay I have another question.

I believe it was said that people can set up fast passes through DMX 60 days in advance?

Say you're not sure which park you're going to that day. In the morning you decide, "Okay, today we'll go to Epcot." I'm assuming that you can set up fast passes that morning for your day?

Hm, thinking on it... if people are setting them up 60 days ahead of time, that could cause the fast pass you set up in the morning to be reserved for a later time in the day... I'm guessing that's why a lot of people seem to be against it.

It all depends on availability - that is the big ??? right now. We don't know what will be available by the time you get to that day.

As for times, it depends on what is popular. FP strategists are already eying later times as more valuable, and thus times available late in the game might be more around the morning.

What is the typical timeframe we are seeing for when people are getting invitations to particpate in the program? I know the entire thing is still month to month, but are people getting invited +30 days out or is everything coming in the month of your check-in?

We have a trip in mid-Oct and I am REALLY hoping we get to use the MagicBands...trying to figure out when I should start stalking MDX to see if we get an invite!

I check in on 8/31. I was able to do my stuff on Fri 8/2 (and my bands arrived Tuesday 8/6). I did not get a letter (but apparently my TA was notified). I was prompted to do it when I logged into My Disney Experience.

As of now, I haven't seen any invites for anyone beyond 8/31 or at a resort outside of Pop, AKL, CR or YC.

We are staying at AKL so I am really hoping we get to! Bummer...looks like nothing would come till beginning of Oct. That seems so far away... :sad1:

I log into MDX daily just in case something special comes down for our December trip...
Wishful thinking. But something has to keep me motivated after waiting 15 months this time around.
