DGC Discounts better at BJ's or Target

I'm thinking about getting a Target Credit Card and becoming a Circle Rewards member, but I already am a BJ's customer with an annual membership. For people who have both memberships, which one do you think has the best discounts on Disney Gift Cards?

Don't forget to count the $60 annual membership fee for BJ's in trying to determine any 'savings' on things you buy. One recently opened in our area and we joined just to see what they sell. Frankly, most items are sold in HUGE quantities and the price is no real bargain. Have to know your unit prices to see if there is actually any savings on individual items. Some yes, but many no. Likely how much you buy at places like Target & BJ's will have an impact on any sort of savings you might gain.

We are member's at BJ's because it one is located in our town, but the nearest Target is over 45 minutes away. So, the Target Membership would only really be for buying discounted gift cards.

We are a family of 5, so buying in bulk at BJ's make since for us, and find the prices to at least be a little lower than at CVS and our grocery market for what we buy. We have been BJ's members for over 10 year now.

You should be able to find $20 BJs membership deals easily. Also they may still have a discounted online only memberships. From a net savings standpoint, BJs usually wins with a 4+% standard savings, plus the occasional extra discount, plus cashback on your credit card (currently 5% on Discover).
Target can be great when that have Circle deals like spend $100 5 times, get $40 in points type deals.

Overall, I do better with BJs. I only buy when they send me a coupon or reward. I did get a discounted membership.

Target is great for a standard 5%. They do have the deals where if you spend a certain amount, you get a bonus. But I don't take advantage of those as they are not direct savings on gift cards (you can't usually use the bonus to purchase a gift card.) Others here do use this method, and (I guess) just reassign the savings in their budgets, which works.

So far, this year, I have saved about 27% on $225 in gc from BJs. I haven't gotten any from Target this year yet. My overall savings this year on $1950 in gift cards is around 55%, but that includes using SUB bonuses from two Inspire cards, so it is very inflated.

Last year, I saved about 15% on $575 in gc from BJs. From Target I purchased $100 and saved 7.5% (used cash app bonus once on a $50gc). My overall savings last year on $1425 in gift cards was 13.48%.

I don't include any savings from my cc (Discover cashback or Chase URs earned, for example) in my calculations.

I didn't think the BJ's coupons worked for Disney Gift Cards? Do you buy them online or in the store?

Target credit card gives straight 5% off. Most of the other Target Circle offers are for Target rewards. So money you can only spend at Target. PP said they got an offer for 14% off D gift cards, but I don’t remember seeing a direct discount off retail gift cards. So if those happen, it’s very rare. I don’t generally shop at Target anymore, so don’t really need their rewards.

BJS does have the annual fee, but as @RivShore said, you can easily find discounted deals all over. Last year I even tried the SiriusXM trick & did an online chat when it was time to renew. I was able to get it for $25 instead of $60. It’s only my husband & I, so for years I resisted joining. But I do find value there. They always have Disney gift cards discounted about 4%, with frequent sales. Ex $500 gift card is normally $479, but goes down to $473 several times a year. They also have many other retail coupons for small discounts. By small, I mean 50 cents off a $25 gc. Although even those can have sales as well. In addition, they randomly offer $ off spend coupons, such as spend $150 get $10 off. Those can be used to buy gift cards. Those are pretty random & individualized. They also have general offers to earn rewards or gas savings. I never spend enough to earn rewards. But I have earned 50cents off a gallon of gas twice this past year.

I don’t get fresh produce or meats, but there are a few products I can save a lot on. My husband’s preferred K cups, currently $42 for 80, but they have $9 off coupons very often. The good by dates are over a year out, so I can stock up & pay $33 when they do. Lipton tea bags, $5.29 for 100 at the grocery store are $12.29 for 3 boxes of 104 at BJs. And then a $1.75 coupon, final price $10.54, less than I would pay for 2 boxes at the grocery. They have several hundred in app coupons all the time. I have storage room for things & it’s small amounts saved at a time. But they do add up. When I do my weekly shopping I always consider how much more it would be if I was still buying the stuff I get at BJs there.

Jeez, BJs should pay me a promotional fee. :rotfl2:

The $ amount off $ amount spend definitely work, in store or online. Ordering online is normally a physical card that gets mailed with no delivery fee.

I didn’t see this post before I wrote that long response before, sorry! If you’re already a BJs member & get basically 4% off, is the extra 1% with a Target card worth your time & effort? Even with periodic extra savings are Target, is it worth a 45 minute drive? Most of those extra savings will be Target rewards, which you can not use on Disney gift cards.

I've always ordered online, but didn't think the $ amount off $ amount spend worked with gift cards, I'll give it a try next time I get one. It's been a long time since I've received one of those coupons though.

They do. I buy online mostly but have also done it in store.

They have digital cards too - delivered to email, usually immediately. However, the last digital ones I ordered were backordered and took a few weeks.

Isn't Target CC and Circle Member free? YMMV but I just got a recent deal from target that was 14% off DGC. So seems like special deals better at Target but BJ deal is more available
Was the 14% off DGC at Target a personalized offer? I wonder how I might be able to get an offer too. Anyone know how I can get the deal at Target?
