Okay, so I'm extremely excited about our trip this September. I had a question about the MagicBands though.

Looking on Disney Store online, I saw that they had some interesting MagicBands. However, I was wondering if there was a bigger variety to choose from at the parks. Or if the ones on Disney Store were all there were.

Sorry for the newbie question, but I was just wondering if anyone knew.....

Yes, you can design and personalize your own at one of the On Demand stations. On Demand stations are located at Magic Kingdom at the Tomorrowland Power & Light Co., the gift shop near Space Mountain; inside of Hollywood Studios at the Star Wars Launch Bay; and, in the Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs.

and if you do make your own MB it takes I think an hour to make it so just be prepared to come back ( like do not do it at the end of your day ( you maybe able to come back the next day to pick it up)

Customizing your own magic band takes about 15-30 min.

But yes there's a lot more choices within the parks and as others have mentioned creating your own from templates at MK or Disney Springs

I don't want to pay for a custom MB until they either last more than a 2 years or are rechargeable (yes, I would pay more for a rechargeable band) - any idea if something like that is in the works?

The battery is only necessary for things like ride photos and videos and the personalized things they're now doing at the end of IASW and HM. It's not necessary for anything where you have to tap it to something like entering the park, using FP, or getting into your room.

5-30 minutes depending on how many others are being made. never seen it over 30 minutes. It's in space mountain, order the band and go for a ride or a ride nearby.

That's a great question, don't worry about being a "newbie". :jester:

I consider myself a Disney veteran, and I have been around here and other sites since the late 90's, I still ask "silly" questions. :rotfl:

Mostly because it's often far between my visits a lot happens in the time in between. :cool1:

And as a matter of fact, I'm actually reading up about the Magic Bands too, at the moment. :smickey:

Here's another question- is there a way to link an online-purchased Magic Band, say from Disneystore.com, in advance of your trip? We are considering hitting the ground running on our first day and entering a park immediately upon arrival. Is there a big process to transfer information from the original magic band that was sent 30 days out, to the newly-purchased magic band?

From what I have understood, you easily connect your Magic Band to your Park ticket or AP via your My Disney Experience online. :surfweb:

I could probably see a rechargeable Magic Band if it had more features, like a watch. But otherwise the added cost for this functionality probably wouldn't be worth it.

The current Magic Band design is completely sealed, which makes it waterproof and prevents battery acid leak. It sips very little power, which is why it can keep broadcasting a signal continuously for so long. Adding a USB port, rechargable battery, and more complex waterproofing might cost too much for most people.

I definitely did keep looking at my wrist as if it would somehow tell me what time it was though! Maybe it's not such a bad idea to make Magic Watches.

I did too, and I hadn't worn a watch in years. I looked so often that I broke down and bought a watch there because I was driving DH crazy asking him what time it was every time I couldn't get the time from my black wrist.

Nothing is "on" a Magic Band, so there's nothing to transfer to a new Magic Band. All you have to do is link the new one to your MDE account and then either one can be used. And linking the new Magic Band is very easy - I've never used Magic Bands and I was able to figure out how to do it very quickly. Just go to My Profile -> Magic Bands & Cards -> Link a Magic Band or Card.
