Magicband Issue: Over the Credit Limit?

Used to happen to me alot but I always carry credit cards.

Lately I stop by the front desk every 2 or 3 days of my trip and look over my account and put gift cards on it or have them run the charges through if I'm out of gift cards. Since I started doing that, I've reduced the over the limit problems to almost nothing - still had a problem at BOG for dinner but that was a tragic band not working issue so I just pulled out the CC and paid that way.

There are set limits on how much can be charged before they have to have you authorize running the existing balance through and resetting the limit. They don't actually charge it to your card until you do that.

Setting up the charge IS giving permission to charge the card. You don't have to go and give specific permission once you hit the limit. If you're having to do that, something has gone awry.

You must have gotten a new CM - this is a daily occurrence at every Disney resort.

They weren't at the hotel, though, they were at a park.

We called 4 different times and had 2 GR who didn't seem to know what it meant...

Who were you calling?

We had a really weird situation...maybe October 2013 (post RFID roomkeys, pre-full-MB-usage)...where we moved from SSR to WL. We'd had charging set up at SSR (in order to use a credit they gave us because of some serious room problems), but the room credit took care of most of what we had charged. Moved to WL, decided to go wild and have room charging again. Went to Epcot.

While at Epcot we charged through the day, no issues. While waiting for dinner I wanted to check our DVC account (because we'd moved rooms at SSR and I wanted to see if they had messed up our points) and on the front page after I logged into the DVC member account I saw big bold red letters telling me that I had a balance. Each charge from Epcot that day was showing up individually. I'd never seen that before! So I was on the phone with not sure who, while waiting for dinner, after ordering, then because it was Via Napoli and LOUD I just went outside.

Turned out the SSR charge of a whopping 5 bucks had thrown our credit card into confusion, they tossed a fraud alert on it, and so it caused the WL account to fail as well, though it all happened after we left the desk.

It was weird weird weird.

Oddities happen sometimes.

Definitely have a backup payment method.

I just came back from WDW yesterday and on our last night there we were unable to purchase anything on our MB because it kept saying "Over the limit" has this happened to anyone else?
We were at GR and on the phone for 4 hours trying to get it resolved...

That's happened to us a couple of time. Just meant a trip to the front desk to have them put the current charges through the credit card and then place a new hold on the credit card. It happens because Disney places a set hold on your credit card when you first check in.

After the first time that happened, I learned to always carry a back up payment method with me.

I'm one of the folks that trusts the Magic Band, without question. Color me lucky I guess but we've never had it NOT work (probably jinxed myself now). I have a credit card as I said but it's not to replace the MB when it goes down. I don't assume it will but that's because in all my trips with it, it never has.

Well thanks ya'll I guess now I know :sad2: It just so happened to be the day I put my DV back in my wallet and left it in the room:crutches:

I've never been in this situation but just in my every day life if I don't want to take my whole wallet at the very minimum I have to take: 1. my debit card 2. main credit card 3. back up credit card.

Because I'm just paranoid like that lol Maybe it's because I've worked in retail and saw many cards be declined for various reasons.

Yep hit that charge limit at your resort and you can't use the charge again until you personally authorize the resort to run your credit card and start over. (It is like that now. Did not used to be. They'd just automatically run the charge.) Don't know why it was such an issue at GS, this happens all the time.

I know Disney says that you can go out with nothing but your magic band, but is that the wisest course of action? Probably not. At the very least you should bring along some alternate form of payment and a photo ID for adults. Some say to also carry health insurance info.

They do have singular issues though. I was unable to charge on even the first purchase once because the resort had mistakenly set my charge limit at "0." That was not something that could be fixed without going back to the resort, so it was good that I had an alternate form of payment. Wasn't the magic band's fault, they messed up at the resort.
