I bought our park passes through a third-party vendor, and ordered magic bands from the Disney store to link them to. I got one for my almost 3-year-old daughter, even though she doesn't have a park pass, because I thought she would like to be included too. (And because I'm going to bribe/reward her with the magic bandits during the trip.)

Do you think there will be any problem getting through the gates, with her having a band that's not actually functioning? (She will be 3 in July, a month after our trip, but she looks older.)

Also, do you know if there's anyway to add personal information to the MagicBand? Would be nice for her to have in case she got lost or anything.

They do not retain any personal information they just link to whatever is on your My Disney Experience account. Hers won't even be activated since it isn't linked to a ticket or anything.

I have my tickets through a Disney vacation package, and they had me select a band for my toddler at MDE. I was not surprised as her brother got room keys with his name as a no-ticket toddler in 2012 at Paradise Pier Hotel. The key serves as a memento for him in the long term, and in the short term, prevented fights with his older brothers. I expect the same for DD with her Magicband. :)

My 2 year old loves to wear his at the park. It makes him feel included, and he likes to hold it up to the FastPass scanners (under 3 doesn't need a FastPass, so it doesn't do anything, but it still makes him feel like he's a part of it).

When DD was 2 she had the best time "using" her magic band! The CMs were so sweet about complimenting her on how well she did and what a pretty shade of blue she had turned Mickey's head. Disney definitely understands that the toddlers need to have the same things as the big kids.

Thanks for the responses ... Now I'm wondering if I should have gotten one for my 1 1/2 year old too!

My 2 yr old granddaughter calls it her Disney bracelet and wears it around our house when she visits

I'm sure toddlers love them as much as bigger kids. One word of caution. I've seen many kids with bands that have not been adjusted to the smaller size for kids. I think some people haven't figured out that you can strip off the outside of the band and leave just the much smaller inside piece. I also see a lot of kids with bands that aren't tight enough. If they can slip them on and off without being unfastened, they can come off and get lost. We saw a very sad little boy on the bus one day who had lost his band. All of his siblings were wearing bands that were too loose.

Disney told me that everyone in the room gets a band regardless of age and if they need a ticket because it also serves as a room key. My almost 3YO loved scanning his even though it did nothing and sometimes he was the one that got to open the door, plus they scan it for Photopass so we let him do that sometimes too. I think it turns white instead of green, but he was so happy to have one too.
There are band things you can get that secure them, I think they are the same things you can use for a Fitbit (I am not sure and we did not use them)
And like joannamet said, remove the grey part for kids and that makes theirs smaller.
