I started this trip report back in late December, early January, and I have finally finished it. I'll post it all in this thread, one day's worth at a time so bear with me!

Who: Cindy D. (41), Gary (49), Nathan (9 1/2) and Zachary (8)
What: Disney Cruise - on the Magic - our 1st cruise ever!
When: December 17 - 24, 2005
Where: Port Canaveral, Key West, Grand Cayman, Costa Maya, Castaway Cay
Why: Celebrating achievement of our black belts in Taekwondo (Cindy, Nathan and Zachary - August '04)

Pre-Cruise - December 16th. Travelled to Cape Canaveral, arriving around 8:45 p.m. at the Radisson at the Port where we had booked their "park and sail" package where we were allowed to leave our vehicle in their parking lot for the week that we were away, and it included two breakfast buffets. Parking at the port would've been $10 / night. The hotel was nice enough for an overnight, and we will stay there again for future cruises leaving from Port Canaveral. We met another family in the lobby that I had met online, so we got briefly acquainted, and then we got settled in. We walked across the street to McDonald's for the boys to eat. There isn't a cross-walk there, but there was barely any traffic at all, so it was easy to cross the street (I had read differently, so perhaps time of day and time of year have some impact on traffic there).

Sailing Day! I thought we were booked on the 10:00 shuttle from the hotel to the Port, so we got out early for breakfast at the hotel. The buffet is $8.95 for adults and $3.xx for children and was pretty good. Of course we didn't want to have much because we knew we were heading for 7-days of Disney chef dining, starting with lunch! We got to the lobby around 9:15 to wait for our shuttle, and some new friends from online saw us in the lobby so we chatted for a while passing the time and getting better acquainted. Small world that it is, Gary and the woman knew some of the same people when they both worked in the Orlando area several years ago. I checked with the shuttle guy and saw that we were scheduled for the 10:30 shuttle (I had originally pre-arranged for the 10:00, and when I asked at check-in was told it was 10:00 ~ but after we got home, I found an email I had sent asking to change us to the 10:30 – I had just forgotten that). We opted to just wait around the lobby anyway, and as it turned out, another family didn't show up, so we took their spot on the 10:00 shuttle after all. It was a rainy, icky morning, but not chilly (thankfully).

Port Arrival: This was so easy. The shuttle dropped us and our luggage right off at the first security check point. The Port people took our tagged luggage, and we headed on into the Terminal area, pausing for a photo of the Magic! 2nd security checkpoint was much like at the airport, and we were given our boarding group assignment (#2). Up the escalator where we had our documents pre-checked for completion, and then only one person from each party is sent to the registration line. There is plenty to explore in the terminal while waiting. The registration line has three sections - one for Castaway Club members (returning guests), one for international passengers, and one for the rest of us. The signs said that registration started at 11:00 so I figured I had a wait ahead of me, but as it turned out, they opened the registration at 10:45. I was about 20th in line and was through with my registration by 11:00.

Post-Registration: At check-in, they give you a map of the ship and an activity list for right after boarding. This is nice because it gives you something to do while waiting for your boarding time. We also were able to pick up our pager for the kids for the Youth Activities, although there was a bit of a glitch as it was so early that they hadn't "turned the voyage" in the computers which meant they hadn't uploaded our passenger list into their computer system for the trip. We met another family from the DISBoards and then hung out until they started boarding.

Boarding: We boarded around 11:45 a.m., a little earlier than I had expected, but we were so excited to be getting every one of those valuable Disney Cruise minutes :) It was so exciting to walk through the Mickey shaped entry! We went through, had our welcome aboard photos taken, and then wow! We walked (glided!) across the gangway and suddenly we were being announced as we entered the Atrium!

We went straight to Guest Services to get the boys’ charging privileges removed from their KTTW cards, and while there, we signed up for the Galley Tour on Thursday afternoon and picked up a Navigator. Then we took the elevator up to Deck 5 to find where the Oceaneer’s Lab was (not yet open) and then on up to Topsiders where we were going to meet some of our new friends. We walked out on Deck 9 and it was a little wet so I was watching where I was stepping more than looking around trying to get my bearings. As it turned out, we missed the main entry door for Topsiders so we found the door down by the desserts  The CMs greeted us and pointed us to the front of the buffet line, so we went through the line and then found a place to sit. At this point, there weren’t many people in at all. I will say that I had expected Topsiders to be mostly outdoor seating so I was surprised at how much indoor seating there really was. We had just gotten situated when our friends came in and there was plenty of room for them to sit with us, so we enjoyed our lunch and getting to know each other. The kids and wives studied the Navigators to get an idea of what we wanted to do for the rest of the day. It still wasn’t time to go to the Stateroom, so we wandered back to the Lab.

Oceaneer's Lab: The Lab was open for the afternoon for registration, wrist bands, pager distribution, and family-time, so we spent some time there with the boys to check things out. They have computers, GameCube, board games, movies, arts and crafts, K-Nex, and tons of scheduled activities including making flubber and butter. Zachary enjoyed the Lab more than Nathan did, but they both spent quite a bit of time there. Nathan, at 9 1/2, was less interested in the organized activities than Zachary was, so we tended to check him in for the free-time unless there were specific structured events he wanted to do (like the Hidden Mickeys search). The counselors are wonderful and energetic and we felt comfortable leaving the children in their care. The boys could page us to pick them up if they wanted to leave as we didn't give them check-out privileges, although in hind-sight it would've been better for us if we had done that with Nathan. We didn't get to check out Ocean Quest which is where the 10-12's go, but from what I heard from the 11 y.o. who ate with us, I think Nathan would like it better. Zachary was in his element at the Lab. But I’m getting ahead of myself ;)

The Cabin: You can't get to your stateroom until 1:30, but we knew about the Secret Stairwell from Topsiders to Deck 8 (where we were staying), so after lunch we went down that way and found our cabin door on our way to the Lab. Can I tell you how excited we were about seeing our cabin when it was time to go in? I took a deep breath and hesitated as I slipped my KTTW card into the door - this was the moment we'd been waiting for! We were in a Cat. 4, cabin 8058. We had a split bathroom, meaning that there were really two half-baths... one with a (super-sonic) toilet and sink and the other with a sink and bath/shower. We had a queen bed and a sofa that converted to a single bed, a drop-down bunk bed, and our cabin also had a Murphy bed which we didn't need / use. We also had a verandah which was nice to have to sit out on. DH used it the most of all of us, but I watched a few beautiful sunrises from it, and especially enjoyed sipping hot chocolate at night while highlighting the next day's Navigator to know what I wanted to do the next day. We had booked through a group booking, so we had a Welcome Aboard gift waiting for us which was a keepsake box that was perfect for stashing our Navigators and other memorabilia in throughout the week.

The Pool: The Mickey Pool on the first afternoon was hardly used, so Gary took the boys swimming while I did some other things. It was an overcast day and a bit chilly. They went swimming a couple of other days, including most of the afternoon on Tuesday. The Goofy Pool was pretty busy throughout the days and there was nearly always someone in the adult pool area. Gary and I never did go swimming or even in the hot tub. The kids liked the Mickey slide, and Zachary thought it was very cool when he got to dance on the Goofy Pool during the Sail Away party (they cover the pool with a wooden floor).

Meeting Friends: While Gary took the boys swimming on the first day, I went to the DISBoards meet scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Promenade Lounge. The Promenade Lounge is an excellent place for a meet because it's not busy at all and is an open space to congregate. I don't know how many families made it to the meet but it was nice to have faces to go with names for people I've been posting with for several months - and it was nice to have familiar faces throughout the ship for the rest of the week.

Life Boat Drill: There is a mandatory life boat drill on the first afternoon. We put on our life vests and took the obligatory photos before going to our assigned Assembly Station (P, on deck 4) We found that the adult life vests have cabin numbers on them so that helped the Cast Members with their roll call. We could not hear our Assembly Station leaders even with the megaphone, but the announcements over the PA were fine. Our kids were fine with the drill, but some younger ones around us were not - especially since each family stands in a line, shortest to tallest, which meant the 2 yr old next to us wanted to be with his mom but his sisters were between him and her. The CMs did allow them to switch around when it became obvious that he wasn't going to settle down about it. Knowing ahead of time that you have to be in height order may help prepare young children that they get to be the "line leader" for their family :)

Sail Away Party: After the life boat drill, people headed up to Deck 9 for the Sail Away Party. We initially went up to Deck 10 to watch, but Zachary and I decided to go into the fray and be up close for the show. It was loud but fabulous! Of course Mickey and the gang came out to party, too, and then we heard the ship's horn (When You Wish Upon a Star) and we were underway! The people at the Port wave you off with Mickey Gloves!

Dining: Our dinner rotation was LAPLAPL, main dining at 6:00. They had changed the staggered seating times even from what we had read online the previous week. The new times were 5:30, 5:45 and 6:00 for Main dining, and then 8:00, 8:15 and 8:30 for Late dining. We had 6:00 all week which was perfect for us because it gave us plenty of time in the late afternoon to get ready for dinner and we would finish right at 7:30 each evening which allowed us to do the activities before the 8:30 performances of the shows. I think that 5:30 would've been too early for us, although we would've enjoyed a little more time between dinner and the show. I know that we would not have liked the later seating (except for having a later Character breakfast time and a later Debarkation breakfast time).

Our first dinner was in Lumiere's which was so beautiful and classy. I didn't know if we'd have dinner mates or not, but we did. We were at a table for 8 and had a wonderful view of the Atrium's Christmas tree from our table. Our table mates were from Georgia and had a 14 y.o. daughter and an 11 y.o. son. It turned out that I knew who the mom was - she's a travel agent with the Magic for Less Travel which is the company I use for my Disney travel. Small world, eh? I started off dinner by telling them that I planned to take pictures of all my food so they wouldn't be surprised :) As it turned out, by the end of the week, sometimes I would start to eat before taking a photo and someone would remind me to take a picture :) Nathan felt a bit queasy at dinner so I got him some Dramamine and that seemed to help. He was the only one of us bothered by the motion of the ship to the point that he needed something. We would feel the motion of the ship, but not to the point where we needed anything for it.

Our Server was Sachin and our Asst. Server was Richard. They were fabulous with the children and the service was excellent. Maclean was the Head Server for our rotation, and he made an appearance at every dinner. I was surprised a bit because I had read that you often wouldn't see the Head Server beyond the first night or two.

Entertainment: There is nearly always something to do on the ship, scheduled or otherwise. Gary opted to go back to the cabin, so the boys and I went to the Oceaneer's Lab and then to the Welcome Aboard variety show which was very enjoyable. After the show, we found Gary coming back in from being up on Deck 9, so we all went for a walk. It was so breezy that I was afraid it would lift Zachary right up. The kids weren't ready to go to bed yet, so I took them back to the Oceaneer's Lab and we played Pinball on the computer for a while and then went to bed.

We weren't scheduled to dock until late morning, so there were plenty of activities on board for the morning. We had breakfast at Topsiders (buffet) and then took the kids to the Lab. I went to one of the Cooking shows - the chef prepared crab cakes, mmmmm. Gary got the kids out of the Lab before lunch and then we ate up on Deck 9 from Pluto's (hot dogs, burgers, chicken tenders, grilled chicken, tacos) and Pinnochio's (pizza) because we couldn't decide what we wanted to do, Gary and I weren't hungry, but we didn't want to buy food in Key West since it was already included in the price of our cruise. We made a few phone calls while we still had cellular service, including one of Gary's friends who lives in Key West so we could make plans to meet him.

Key West: We didn't have anything planned, so we walked around a bit, went to Ripley's Believe It or Not (over-priced IMHO), and then met his friend at Sloppy Joe's. The boys were tired and Zachary fell asleep at the table. Afterwards we walked to the Southernmost Point and took a few pictures and then hiked back to the ship. It really is a long walk to the Southernmost Point from the pier area. I wish we had researched the sight-seeing trains with on/off privileges a little more. We recently went to St. Augustine and did that (same company that they have in Key West) and found it to be a good way to see the area without having kids with “crumbling feet.”) We didn't leave Key West until 1 a.m. because the crew had received a high score on their rating from the previous cruise, so the Captain decided to reward them with some extra hours in Key West.

Our second dinner was at Animator's Palate, and of course our wait staff follows us each night, so they knew that I would want a Diet Coke and Gary would have unsweet tea! Dinner was delicious and they had the best caesar salad I have ever had (in fact, I had it the next night, too). Dinner each night was an appetizer (or two, if the server decided you needed an extra one to try), salad or soup (or both), entree (and usually a spare one to try) and dessert (or two or three). The kids' menus were fairly standard including chicken tenders, mac/cheese, pizza, but they could also order off the adult menues. The way they are set up for the 7-night is that each of the three restaurants serves its signature meal three nights in a row so that everyone gets to have it, and then for the rest of the nights, all the restaurants serve the same thing. So if there is something you really really really like the first night, you can have it the 2nd and 3rd night, too :) Makes me wish we'd had Parrot Cay the first night because that creme' brulee cheesecake was divine!

Entertainment: There was a Magician for the 2nd night's entertainment that had Nathan on the edge of his seat. He was funny and wow'ed us with his illusions. Gary again opted to skip the show in favor of the verandah 

A day at sea is as busy, or busier, than a Port day as the Navigator is jammed packed with things to do. We had our Character Breakfast that morning so we had to get up early for it. There is something really wrong with having to get up early on a Sea Day! But I didn’t want us to miss the character breakfast, so we got up and had a delicious breakfast and got some good pictures with some of the characters. We were on a quest to get as many pictures of Minnie is her many different outfits, so we added another one to our collection that morning.

After breakfast, we scattered throughout the ship – the kids went to the Lab for most of the day, leaving DH and me to our own devices. We enjoyed having some time together without the kids and we also enjoyed being able to explore the ship on our own, too. We ate lunch in Lumiere’s and did some laundry, and then I went off for an arts and crafts thing and then I don’t remember what else. (I knew I should’ve finished writing this back in December!)

Formal Night: We had Formal Night in Parrot Cay, and I wanted to try to get a good family picture, so we got dressed and went down and queued in the shortest picture line that just happened to be the one with Captain Tom. We actually got a great family picture – just need to photoshop the Captain out (LOL). Then we stood in line for the one where you stand behind the life preserver. The one with just me and DH turned out really good so we actually bought that one as an 8 by 10. Nathan was starting to get a bit cranky about being dressed up, being tired from a busy day, and being hungry, so it was finally time to eat so we went in for dinner. We liked Parrot Cay – it was colorful and we had a good table near the entry. I ordered the Caesar salad for my salad since I knew that you could do that (thanks to all the tips I’ve read on the boards!) and whatever the beef selection was for the night. However, Nathan needed to be excused from the table for an attitude adjustment, so I took him out to the Promenade Lounge for a chat. When we went back into Parrot Cay, we could tell there had been some commotion because there were chairs around an area in the entry way and CMs were standing guard to keep guests from walking through. Our tablemate saw me coming in and he came to tell me that Zachary had gotten sick and Gary had taken him out. Oh no! Apparently too much mac/cheese on top of too much chicken fingers on top of too much mac/cheese. Needless to say, Nathan and I didn’t stay for the rest of dinner, but our servers and also Maclean told us that if we needed anything or wanted dessert later to please let them know and they would send it up. We apologized profusely for the incident (ugh) and Nathan and I went to find DH and Zachary. Formal Night was a bit of a bust for us.

Zachary was ok, DH cleaned him up and did another load of laundry. He told me that there was another kid in the bathroom where he took Zachary who had also gotten sick (same thing – mac/cheese), and another dad was with a kid who was feeling sick. Of course we were back on the sea that day after having been docked in Key West for dinner the night before, so perhaps the motion of the ship added to it. Either way, Zachary was feeling fine and wanted to go to the Golden Mickeys, so we all changed into comfortable clothes and off we went to the show.

The Golden Mickeys was fun and we enjoyed watching the pre-show interviews, although the first girl made us laugh the most – when asked who her favorite Disney character was, she replied “SpongeBob Squarepants.” We knew her parents must be so proud (LOL).

After the show, Nathan and I went back to Parrot Cay to see if we could have dessert to take back to the room ~ I’m so glad we did because the crème brulee cheesecake was so yummy! Next morning is Grand Cayman, another early wake-up, so off to zzzzzz.

We got up early, went up to Topsiders for breakfast and then got our stuff we needed for going into port. We booked the Island Observation tour through DCL, so we met our group to go ashore. We tendered which was not the nightmare I had heard that it could be, but perhaps because the seas were pretty calm at that point. I’m glad we did our excursion through DCL because it made it easier to figure out what we were doing with the kids in tow. There were maybe 50 of us in the tour group, so they split us into three shuttle buses. We were in the back of the line, so our bus was 1/2 empty which gave plenty of room. There was another DISBoard family on the same bus with us.

The tour was pretty good – we saw a bit of the town and then went to Hell where we had a short stop and then on to the Turtle Farm which the boys enjoyed. I liked that they had a clean bathroom (LOL). We all had fun holding the turtles and got some fun pictures. Then off to Stingray City which I really didn’t know what was going to be like – I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn’t a gift shop shack or anything set up … you just got on the boat that took you out to where the catamaran was (we did the non-snorkeling, stay dry tour). The water was so clear and the ride out was relaxing. Once we got in the catamaran and got situated, the diver got the stingrays and brought them up close. They were so cool to see. Then after being down about 1/2 hour, we got back on the boat and went back to the bus and back to the dock.

We went back to the ship for lunch and because I had scheduled a massage for the afternoon, so the kids went to the lab after lunch while I went to get my massage. It was so wonderful. I think her name was Pavi (forgive me if I got it wrong – something like that – she’s from South Africa). Instead of having her do the front, she gave me a mini-facial which was fabulous, too. When I got done with the massage, I found DH and the kids at the Mickey Pool, so I traded kid-duty with DH so he could go for a run. (Note: DH was planning to run the half-marathon at Disney World in 2 weeks so he had to keep up his training – he did successfully complete it and is now training for the full marathon in 2007.)

Dinner that night was back at Lumiere’s. And the CM at Shutters had told me that pictures that night would be the only opportunity to get Mickey and Minnie together. I really wanted to get a family picture done with them, but after the previous night’s fiasco, DH didn’t want to get dressed for dinner and the boys were content to eat pizza and watch the Disney movies on the cabin TV. So I went by myself and enjoyed dinner with my tablemates. While we were eating, they told me about spending some time in Diversions during the day – I hadn’t even been down there to look around.

After dinner, the guys got ready to go to the show with me. It was Twice Charmed which was so delightful; we all enjoyed it. The kids and I went to see another show and wander around for a while and then back to the cabin to zzzzz.

This morning I took Zachary and we went to breakfast at Lumiere’s where we had a quiet breakfast together. He got blueberry pancakes and when I got up to go across the table to cut them for him, the server was right there scolding me! After breakfast, we wandered around the ship a bit. I took him to Diversions to explore and we decided that we should go back there as a family later on. It was Costa Maya day, so we had to get ready to go for that. We watched the ship docking and there were to other ships in port that day. As we were getting off the ship, it was starting to rain. The kids stepped onto the pier and then promptly decided they didn’t want to go into the port. I didn’t really want to get wet either, but DH wanted to go, so he went on while I took the kids back onboard. They decided they wanted to go to the Lab, so I decided to go on into the port and look around… plus I found I had packed a poncho (LOL).

Costa Maya was packed in the port shopping area, but I walked around keeping an eye out for DH. I found the Internet café and decided to buy some internet time ($3 for 30 minutes), so I sent some email and posted on DISBoards. While I was in there, DH saw me so we spent the rest of the morning together. We didn’t leave the port area – again because I hadn’t researched much about it – and because the kids were on the ship, we didn’t want to venture too far. We were back on board by lunch, so we met the kids for lunch and then let them choose what they wanted to do for the afternoon. Zachary went back to the Lab while Nathan and I hung out – we went to the prize Bingo session by the pool and Nathan won the first round! Then we went to Diversions and I taught him how to play Scrabble. We just hung out there for a while relaxing and enjoying some one-on-one time.

Wednesday was Pirate Night, so we went early enough for pictures before dinner, and then we all had dinner together in Animator’s Palate. It was fun, and then instead of going to the movie in the Walt Disney Theater (Chronicles of Narnia which we had already seen), we went to the Arcade to check it out before getting ready for the Pirate party. We got the boys $10 each on their arcade cards. The party was so much fun – the boys and I were right in the middle of it all, and Zachary was wearing a Captain Hook costume. Captain Hook came over and shook hands with him. We had a great time. They put the buffet out but we weren’t hungry at all, so we skipped it and went back to the room.

Our second sea day! I got up pretty early even though I didn’t have anywhere to be, so I went down and had breakfast by myself in Lumiere’s. Another couple was seated with me (their only requirement was someone over the age of 21). We engaged in polite conversation but it was a little weird. After breakfast, I went back to the room and sent Nathan to get his breakfast at Topsiders. Zachary was still sleeping, so I stayed with him while Gary went out to do whatever and Nathan went back to the Arcade. He came back having spent his $10, so I gave him Zachary’s $10 card and told him to go play some more and that I would get another card for Zachary. Zachary was still sleeping. And still sleeping. Finally he got up about 10 a.m. – guess too much partying the night before.

Nathan spent much of the day watching movies in the room or hanging out in Diversions with me or Gary. None of us did very much except Zachary spent the afternoon with the Lab. I took a nap in the afternoon (first one) and missed a couple of activities I had wanted to do – but my nap was heavenly. Gary and I did the Galley tour which was very interesting ~ I definitely recommend it if you have the time to go. And at some point in the afternoon, I re-booked for another cruise!

Then at 5:00 was the D Sea U graduation (for the children’s programming) which was nice to watch. Our only complaint was that when the children were filing in, the people immediately in front of us were standing up and blocking the view. And then they wouldn’t sit down once they spied their child who saw them. Ugh. Nathan didn’t want to participate so he was with us and then of course he couldn’t see around the people in front of us. They did finally sit down but my goodness! The program was entertaining and it was teary to see the kids’ activities in the slide show, and of course Mickey and Minnie came out. They got a nice t-shirt and of course the graduation cap complete with Mickey ears. Even though Nathan didn’t participate in the graduation, the CM told me we could just stop by the Lab and pick up his shirt and ears, so we did that afterwards.

Neither of the boys wanted to go to dinner that night, so Gary and I left them in the room eating pizza and chicken and watching t.v. while we went to Parrot Cay for a nice relaxing dinner. It’s funny because earlier in the week, there was no way I would’ve left the boys unattended in the cabin, but by that point, I knew they knew how to get around the ship, that they were trustworthy enough to go to Deck 9 and directly back, and that if they needed anything, they knew where we were. When we went back after dinner to check on them, they were fast asleep.

I wanted to go see the Talent Show at 7:30 because our tablemate’s DD was singing as was our new friends’ DD, so I left Gary and the boys in the cabin with specific instructions for him to wake them in time for the show – it was Disney Dreams and we didn’t want to miss it. After the Talent Show, I found my family saving me a seat (ssshhhhh…. Don’t tell anyone that they saved one seat for me!) and we enjoyed the show immensely. Oh yeah – earlier that day I had done a “backstage tour” of the theater… again, if you can do it, it’s neat to see what all goes into making the shows so fabulous – as well as getting to talk with the costumers, stage managers, etc.

The midnight dessert buffet was that night. I wanted to see it, but Gary and the boys didn’t want to wait in the line, so I queued up about 1/2 hr early and was pretty far back in the line. When I finally got in, it was neat to see but maybe I was just about desserted out because there wasn’t a lot I was interested in. I took a few things back upstairs for the family.

We went to sleep that night with thoughts of Castaway Cay ahead of us, but a little sadness because our cruise was nearly over… but I can’t think about that right now.

I woke up this morning with a sense of anticipation – finally going to see Castaway Cay which I had read so much about and seen so many pictures of. We hurried for breakfast, and then were out on the verandah watching us dock, and then the wonderful procession of Cast Members as they left the ship and went to their posts on the island to make our day ashore as magical as our days at sea had been. I commented to Gary that it was something that looked choreographed! We were on the starboard side of the ship so we got to see the happenings right from our room. We headed down to Deck 4 so we’d be close to getting off the ship near the front of the groups.

Castaway Cay is amazingly beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing. We walked up to the main part of the island after feeling the snow from the snowmen (it was the weekend of Christmas after all) and got some photos with Mickey and Minnie along the way. We checked the kids into Scuttles Cove and then went off to explore the island. We walked down to Serenity Bay where we plopped down on a couple of chairs for about 1/2 hour and then we walked back to the middle of the island. My sunglasses broke, so I had to get a new pair. We ran into friends while looking for sunglasses and then decided to all get lunch together, so we did. During lunch, our friends told us about the scavenger hunt she was going to do – so after lunch, the two men went back to the beach to sit in the shade while she and I went on the scavenger hunt. I got a packet for me at the information booth, and then we checked in on our kids. Nathan was ready to go, so he hung out with me for the rest of the afternoon. We did the scavenger hunt – some of the clues were tough, and if it weren’t for Nathan’s keen eye, we’d have never figured a couple of them out.

Around 2:30, we checked Zachary out and then went to get our bikes we had reserved. I hadn’t been on a bicycle in years, but it came back to me instantly! We rode to Serenity Bay and took the path there to the end, and then on the way back, we checked out the new bike trail. Zachary and Gary took off ahead of me and Nathan, and we didn’t catch up with them til we came across them where Zachary had wiped out. His poor knee was a mess, but he was a trooper and rode his bike back up to the main part of the island and then hobbled with me to the First Aid station where he got good care! Gary and Nathan had already headed back to get back onboard, so Zachary and I went back after getting him cleaned up.

Dinner that night was back at Lumiere’s. The kids went with us, and then we went to the show and then Zachary went back to the Lab for the evening. After the show, I started packing and finally got done about 10:30 – just in time to realize I missed the Til We Meet Again show in the atrium. I hated that because I really wanted to see it – I just forgot about it. Next time I’ll start packing on Thursday! I went down to see if Zachary was ready to come back but he wasn’t, so I left him in the Lab and just wandered around the ship, kinda saying goodbye, kwim? I went to Diversions where it was Pub Night and the CMs had a hilarious skit that made me laugh til I had tears. Definitely something to see.

Close to midnight I went to blast Zachary out of the Lab and turn in my pager (it was due back by midnight). Then off to sleep with a wake-up call for early. I don’t remember falling asleep that night, but when we woke up, it was….

… and we were docked in Port Canaveral. What a sad sight that was… I was hoping we’d still be out in the sea and have a little extra sailing time, but alas, we were right on schedule. I got up, dressed and packed up the carryon, and then got the boys up one at a time to get them up and dressed for the day. We were all pretty pitiful, and of course tired from having not gotten much sleep the night before. And of course when Zachary went to the bathroom, he had some drippage which required him to need a change of underwear – only problem was that I had packed it all so he didn’t have a spare – oops! I’ll remember that next time!

We took one last look around the cabin and went down for our 7 a.m. breakfast and were glad we weren’t in the 6:30 crowd  Breakfast was fine, a little rushed and limited selection of food, but it was nice to be able to say a proper goodbye to our servers and tablemates. The line to disembark was forming in the Atrium, so we watched it grow longer and longer but then it moved pretty quickly.

After breakfast, we walked around a few more minutes, one last trip to the restroom, and then queued to get off the ship. We were sure dragging our feet… I’ve never seen such unhappy kids on the day before Christmas.

We got into the room where the luggage was and as we headed up to our area, a big burly man shouted “Porter? Anyone need a porter?” and I shouted back “me, me!” so he came over with his cart, helped us get our 8 bags, directed us where to go for the shortest line through the customs check, and then he took us outside to where the Radisson shuttle would collect us. The shuttle was already there, so we were whisked away from the port pretty quickly and then dropped off at our car where we loaded up and were on the road home by 8:15 a.m.
