Magical Oct 4, 2014 Southern Caribbean

My kids are crazy! The animal behavior class is done through the Disney Youth Program. Nico will be taking classes in Disneyland through the same program late Sept. (Someone is a little spoiled) ;)

Painting an Ostrich egg sounds so cool. :thumbsup2

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that I have cancelled this cruise :sad::sad::sad: Don't want to ... but have decided that two cruises are too much in one year, especially after the European cruise and other items in my personal life right now. Still booked on the May 10, 2014 Fantasy cruise for now ... It would have been great cruising with a lot of you that I know from past cruises (Jan, Deb, Tina, Angie, Dennis, Joanne ... I'm sure there are others.)

Good Morning Everyone ! :wave2: We set sail in 399 Days ! :dancer::woohoo::cool1::dancer: Under the 400 day mark ! :cool1:

Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Labor Day ! Anyone have any plans for the weekend ? I am working today but I am off Sunday & Monday. :woohoo: I will be going to the beach boogie barbeque and the waterpark.

My life is ever changing!! At least it isn't boring :) My 3rd grader would like to home school. After looking into multiple options, I am going to go for it :thumbsup2

Just as when my son left school, none of her friends or teachers want her to leave. If she hates it, we can go to the local public school and she will be fine. However, I am looking into a ton of programs and I have a feeling just like my oldest, she will end up loving it.

For the record, Nico doesn't home school for real. He virtual schools through Connections Academy. This will be my first official homeschooler.

With my crazy schedule, I just think this makes the most sense for her.

Wish me luck!! :wizard:

He really did like the class. His favorite class was the Marine Biology because he looked at xrays, behavior, and vitals on a dolphin only to discover the dolphin had pneumonia. In that class, he learned the filtration of the entire water system for Disney and learned how to tell if the PH levels aren't correct. He learned about feeding, and training animals. Working with animals that are exhibiting behavior problems and where they are quarantined when they are sick or biting...ect.

This animal class we learned about the gibbon monkeys and how they sing to mark their territory. Tigers and how far they jump and how animals learn through observation more than anything else. Participating in exercises in observation learning and question answers throughout the lessons. It was overall a good class :) I think Julie my 10yo would have gotten more out of it. I was glad there were other kids his age. I thought it would all be younger kids, but there were about 5 kids all in 7th grade.

Hopefully the Disneyland classes are more his speed. They should be since they are geared toward jr high and high school.

Wow ! That sounds like a great class ! I would've enjoyed the class. :)

Another week off the countdown :)

Finally getting settled into the home school routine. I have calendars for each of my kids with the whole year and have them crossing off the days until we reach 180. They are a little frustrated that I am having them start from the beginning because they have been in school since the first week of Aug. But, I also pointed out that Cairns and Fiji are counting as field trips. We are headed to a Fijian village and Thanksgiving day, we are spending time at an orphanage. I explained that those are social studies field trips. Then in Cairns, we are going to explore the Great Barrier Reef and explore the zoo while being able to hold and feed kolas, kangaroos, and wallabies :) Those are science field trips. So while we are on vacation, we can count those as working days.

They are no longer complaining ;)

Hi cant remember if I joined this meet or not after rebooking whilst on board to Alaska in July - looked back but couldn't find anything on the posts.

Looking forward to this cruise and any FE or other events planned. there is me, DH DD Emily (12) and DS Jonathan (9). Been on 7 cruises with DCL so far - family all love them but difficult to find a different on which fits now with school hols. Benn to Alaska, Hawaii, med, Caribbean and Bahamas so this one looks like a nice experience to add to this.

Love the Magic and the Wonder - good size of ships and kids love to make friends on board.

Can wait - will make a nice change of weather from Scotland in October

Welcome Lynne!! I was in Edinburgh a few years back. I had such a fun time on the Royal Mile. I was in Gretna Green (but I didn't do anything rash there)

Nico my son started a kids thread if your daughter would like to join it. He is 12 as well.

Here is the link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3101726

It would be great for the kids to get to know each other before the cruise :)

Another week off the count down. I am headed to Disneyland for another class with Nico this coming Wed. Since Samantha started homeschooling, I was trying to take her with me as well. Unfortunately, airfare is now outrageous (less than 4 days out)

The three classes Nico was suppose to take were all canceled. However, there is one for him called Designing a Disney Story. It wasn't even his 3rd choice, but if it helps him with his creative side, I'm all for it.:thumbsup2

I remember one time, I was babysitting a 5yo girls and Nico was 6yo. The little girl said, "let's pretend that we are on vacation. We are at the beach with the waves crashing on the shore." Nico looked at her and said, "Instead of pretending, why don't you just go on vacation. Sounds like you need one." :rotfl2:

Needless to say, he's not the most creative person around. Maybe this will inspire him :)
