Just had a letter from Disney to tell us they're operating Magical Hours for resort guests from 3rd to 22nd April. Presume this is a trial for a fuller implementation.

Morning hours, attractions in Discoveryland and Fantasyland will be open
Evening Fantasyland Discoveryland Aventureland Frontierland

Doesn't say which attractions or if all will be open

April 3 5 7 15 one hour before opening (9-10)
10 11 12 13 14 Two hours before opening (8-10)
16 17 22 Two hours after closing (20-22:00)
8 19 Three hours after closing (20 - 23:00)

Oh good, hadnt read this properly first time i saw it last week, and had thought the time when i'm going was unaffected, having seen the way you've set it out i realise we get two hours BEFORE the park opens :)

Thanks for posting

We arrive on the 3rd at Davy Crockett, will it count for us as well?

It says you just need your theme park ticket and Disney resort I.D. - do you get one of those at Davy Crockett?

I'm assuming they will have written to everyone who has a booking during that period - but maybe only if you booked with Disney direct.

Would it not be your room key card or something they would need to see?

Excellent!! Let's hope they decide to make this permanent. :wizard:

I would have thought that you would be eligible staying at Davy Crockett, as it is an official Disney resort

Great news! We will be there in April and I'm looking very much forward to the magical hours!

How does it work when they open the park longer in the evening? Will all the guests be asked to leave the park and to reenter later with their theme park ticket and Disney resort I.D. again?! When the park closes at 8.00 p.m. it will be 9.00 p.m. until everybody is out ... or do they walk around inside asking the people if they have an I.D. with them?!

Davy Crockett will be eligible as you get resort ID to charge purchases, the same as on-site hotels :thumbsup2

If DLP are having Magical Hours. Does it mean that the park is going to be so crowded and busy during the normal day, so they are adopting this scheme so that hotel guests still get a chance to enjoy the parks when it is less busy before/ after hours?

This seems a brilliant idea, but I'm concerned that it will be too busy during my visit during normal park hours. While I'm there the park will open later for hotel guests, but unfortunately I won't be able to take advantage as I have a 1 year old, who needs to be in bed by 8pm at the very latest.

Your views would be appreciated. Am I just being a worrier?

All the best,

Sally

Sounds like a brilliant idea I just wish they'd had it last jUNE WHEN WE VISITED.

Antony we stayed at Davy Crockett for 5 days would be glad to help if you have any questions

It is difficult to know until it is tried out on DLP. I'd like to believe that on-site guests might leave part of their visit until EMH so it might help take some of the crowds out of the park during the day :)

I hadn't thought of it that way Reid. Hopefully that'll be the case.

I'm so looking forward to going and would hate for it to be too overcrowded- that's why I picked to go in April rather than July/August.

Hopefully some Disers will report back about it when they get home, before I leave (April 19th) so that I will find out what happens. :)

I feel much less worried now!

Sally, I don't think there is any need to worry. I am under the impression that the off-site hotels are taking rather a lot of business away from the Disney ones and that Disney is trying this out as a perk to encourage people to stay in the Disney hotels, thus retaining their revenue in their hotels. Just my opinion, though. :goodvibes

Thanks Sue, we stayed there last year so should be OK and excellent news on the magic hours.
Got to agree with Elaine, it's another 'perk' for staying on Disney property.

re: how they'll know who to kick out and who to let stay in.. i've seen this happen... after the fantillusion parade finishes CMs stood @ the castle gateway checking tickets and those with tickets or resort ids or whatever meaning they could stay in were allowed through, everyone else had to leave.. and cos everyone was on main street for the parades it was kind easy to seperate people... if that makes sense...

maybe they'll do the same here?

Yes, they use wristbands at WDW. They will have 4 or 5 stations around the park where you can pick one up, usually beginning around 2 hours before closing time. You have to show a resort ID in order to get one.

Steve

I hadn't thought of it as an extra perk to staying on site.

I immediately think the worst! (My cynical nature! LOL)Why is it that they've chosen these particular dates? I'm now wondering why they don't do it all the time then? Does anyone have any ideas?

Whatever the reasoning behind it, I'm glad it's happening when I'm going to be there. It will make my holiday more magical!

Can't wait to go!

Sally :)

i wish they had this when we visted in march, we found thur/fri and sat very very crowded and to us unbearable at times, with this it means you won't have to fight yoru way onto the shuttle buses come 8pm and again in the morning, maybe they are doing it because they are full?? its was full in march, when we thought it would be quiet.
