Magical Express

My husband and I are going on a last minute trip and it will be our first kid free one to WDW! We figured we would try out the Magical Express for once and forgo the towncar. My question is do we have to let them get our luggage or can we get it and take it on the bus with us. I really don't want to have to wait a few hours til they deliver it only to find out it was lost. It will be one suitcase between us so not much to take. Will this be a problem? Thanks!

No problem, other than burning 20+ minutes of your time. Just leave off the DME tags, go to baggage claim, collect your bag and then head to DME. Your bag will go on the bus with you. A tip for the driver would be expected.

You should have stuff you need for the first 24 hours (toothbrush, swimsuit) in a carryon. If that carryon needs to be gate checked, go to the carousels to retrieve it.

Yellow tagging the (rest of the) bags and letting Magical Express deliver them is very reliable and carefree. Even to the point where you would file a baggage claim at your resort if you should discover any missing.

You can choose to do that if you want. To me, the whole point of DME is not having to stop to pick up my luggage. Why spend more time at the airport than you have to, when you could be on a bus and on your way?

Keep in mind that if you do pick up your checked bags, it is customary to tip the driver for stowing it for you. A couple of bucks should do nicely.

Thanks all! We did get our ME tags in the mail yesterday and it does give a a choice. We will carry our own suitcase to the bus. It's only one suitcase and I don't want to find out 4 hours later that it never made it to the plane or the bus. I tip everyone so no worries there. LOL Thanks again!

Just remember...don't put those tags on the checked bag unless you want DME to handle it for you. It will not be sent out to the baggage claim area...but will be put aside for DME delivery. If you want to claim your own bags, then do NOT put the yellow tags on them!!
