My DW and DD will be flying AirTran into MCO with only carryon luggage as their luggage will be with me on the Autotrain. I will be arriving in Sanford about the same time as they arrive at MCO. How do they take DME? Must they sign up for DME ahead of time or can they simply board the bus to our resort - POR? Although I could pick them up at MCO, in case of any delays, we thought it would be easier them to take DME to resort and check-in.

In order to ride with Magical Express, they must register with them. You can call Disney and they will register you. You just need to tell them what airline and flight number they are flying with. They will then send you the papers you need about 4-6 weeks before you arrive. Since you wont have any luggage, you wont need to use the luggage tags. Once they get to MCO, when they get the ME area, I would just let them know they don't have any luggage wiith, just their carry ons. It shouldn't be a problem. if you need to you can call Magical Express at 1-866-599-0951, for more info. I hopes this helps you out.

I"ve used DME without luggage several times...it's really easy. And, you don't have to worry about booking it early. Since they won't need the luggage tags, they can be booked right up to the day before travel..although I still like to get it booked a month beforehand otherwise you can forget to do it.
When they get to the airport, tell them to just head to level 1, Side B. Head to the DME checkin counter, get their vouchers stamped, and head to the bus. If they didn't get their packet in time, they will be given vouchers at the checkin desk. It's all quite easy.

I think it should be brought up that if you do not register with the DME for transportation, when you arrive at Orlando and do not have DME reservations, you will be referred to Mears shuttle. They will charge you on a per person rate and than put you back on a bus for the resorts. It has been reported that it will probably be a DME bus. So it is important that you register for the DME before you arrive Orlando or else you will pay something like $32.00 per person round trip from MCO.

Also keep in mind if this happens that there is a demand taxi station at MCO that will cost you less than Mears shuttle if you are a family of 4 or more. The taxi stand will accommodate up to 9 passengers for a price of around $100.00 round trip.
