Hi
Ok so I am less than 24 hours away from taking off (despite what my ticker says...) and I am finishing that final packing...which means that I have to attached our ME tags...I read the directions but I want to make sure this is right...
I only take off the the little section that it says to take off...and then I attatch that to the paper side of the other end of the sticker??? Does this really hold? it just doesnt seem like it would...

Am I doing this right?

Thanks!

Sounds right to me. My tags all have a section on each end that says to remove this section, so you are sticking sticky to sticky. But others have said that they only have one end that says to remove this section. Mine have always had both ends as removeable pieces. Done this way, they are incredibly strong...same as what the airports use to tag.

hmm...ok..

Oh no...have I put it in a way that made you confused? That wouldn't be the first time for me. If you have any issue with how I put it, please let me know...I'll try to be more clear...I promise. I don't want to be the reason your tags didn't stick together. :guilty:

Oh No! I'm sorry...I was just cyber thinking to myself how I was going to fix the one that I already put on...I dont think I'll have a problem with they way it is on now (one sticky side to the paper...)
Sorry...I didnt mean for any confusion...

Each tag is approximately 20 inches long and 2 inches wide.

The backing that covers the adhesive is in 3 sections. Remove the backing that says "REMOVE THIS PORTION ONLY" from both ends of the tag. Leave the rest of the backing (the middle).

Loop the tag through a handle on your bag, and stick the exposed adhesive ends to each other, as shown on the illustration on the backing.

The important point is to stick the adhesive to adhesive. That attaches the tag so it won't come off.

If you did something 'different' and are concerned that the ends won't stick to each other - you can add a couple of staples.

The mistake some people make is taking off only one of the 3 backing pieces instead of the two outer backing pieces. With just one piece of backing taken off you end up sticking sticky to non sticky and something else delaminates shortly thereafter and the tag falls off.

The problem with staples is that someone could get poked if a staple doesn't get curled completely or starts to pull apart.

Once at work I was issued a brand new stapler that often crumpled staples rather than curl them properly. The staple not only falls out shortly but the paper is also damaged. I "shoulda" thrown the whole stapler in the trash.

Completely agree....but it seems that there are some tags out there that have that 'remove this section' on only one end. Can't imagine why that would be though. I have tried to make sure that people aren't trying to rip each one of the two tags apart, at the middle, and then ending up with four tags...that would make me understand why there would be only one section saying 'remove this section', and you would have only one sticky end. Hopefully this isn't what is happening. Those tags would be way too small to turn freely on the luggage handle.

Hmmm. Do some tags have no backing and also no stickiness at one end, and that end is a slightly different color? This can be tricky. Here you would peel the backing only from the other end leaving just 1/3 of the strip sticky and here you do stick sticky to non sticky.

Public schools should offer a course in consumer education where problems of this kind are discussed (don't miss this class to go on a Disney vacation). Included would be such things as removing the tag sewn on to an article of clothing (actually a specially prepared piece of cloth instead of an actual pair of trousers), answering canned abusive phone calls where you are graded on what you say, writing a credit card dispute letter, filling out tax returns (fictitious data), etc.

I am looking at my tags right now and they are clearly marked on both ends of the tag with "peel here" and "remove this portion only". Simply put them through the handle of your luggage, take off both ends and stick them together. These tags are very similar to the ones that the airlines use......

I agree...BF fixed the issue...they must have offered this class at his school...
Thanks for your help everyone!!!

since we've never used it, probably the dumbest question(s) ever...

assume we still take the bags to airline desk to get weighed, etc....will we get luggage claim tags there as our claim tickets?

i've had bags go "missing" before...if they don't show up within a few hours, who do you contact to start the process of locating them?

Yes, even though you put on those yellow DME tags, when you get to the your departure aiport checkin desk, they will put those 'airline' tags on the bags, as usual, and you will get the claim slips. Then, once you get to your resort, if your bags don't show up in a reasonable amount of time, I would imagine you would contact Bell Services, who could tell you if the bags had arrived from that time frame (your departure from MCO to the resort)..if bags had already been delivered and yours were not in the delivery, the DME is responsible for tracking the bags. At least that's what I have been told. You give them your claim slips, they make a copy and take it from there.

My guess is that some people tear or cut their tags in half, along the fold. In that that case, they would have twice as many tags. Each tag would be approx. 10 inches long instead of approx. 20 inches long. And each half-length tag would only say "REMOVE THIS PORTION ONLY" at only one end of each tag.

The tags are not meant to me torn or cut in half along the fold.

Absolutely!! That's why I keep coming back on these luggage tag threads to be sure people don't do that. There should be a sheet with two tags on it, for each person. You tear this sheet down the middle, giving you two tags, about 20" long. There should be a blue Mickey head with lettering (your resort area) at each end, with your resort name, the main person on the reservation's name, your name, date of arrival, your reservation number, and a total of three bar codes. The center of the tag is between the two listings of your arrival date and reservation number. So, in essence, you will have the exact same info showing, on both sides, when you have folded the tag and stuck the ends together, over the luggage handle. The tag is now about 10" long.

Now, I'm not trying to make anyone look like an idiot, not saying that most people can't figure this whole tag thing out. I just really want to be sure that everyone realizes how they work. There seems to be a lot of questioning as to how they stick together, fold, that kind of thing. Hope this helps alleviate some anxieties!

I posted this on a different thread I think last week sometime. There ARE some tags that only have the remove portion on one end  Mine would be one of the sets. Yes they are 20 inches long but only have a remove section on one end. The 20 inch section on the back is only 2 pieces. One removable section thats about 2-3 inches. The other end has no removable section and no wording like on the other end. It doesn't sould like many were made this way but there are a few. I've decided to just cut a portion on the other end so I can adhere sticky to sticky. I graduated from college but need a remedial course on how to get my tags on my luggage :rotfl: 11 more days!!!
