Hi...
Ok so will I see my luggage after I put it on the plane when we board? I guess what I mean is-will I have to pick up my luggage when I use Magical Express? Or will it Magically appear in my room? I'm wondering if I should bring a carry on just in case (um ok yes-and I just answered my own question)

but at what point do I finally see my luggage?

as long as you put those yellow tags on it, you won't see it until you get into your room (usually get there about 2 hours after you arrive at the hotel). I put a change of clothes in my carry on just in case, but I always do that in case my luggage gets lost by the airline.

If you are going to be arriving after 7:00 PM look for it to take about 4 hours (that seems to be the norm for us) to get your luggage to your room. We always put our bags on the bus (DME) with us ourselves when arriving at night....good luck!

we're getting there at about 1045 am...so we will have plenty of time to get our luggage...thanks!

My son's flight arrival at MCO was 10:14pm and he arrived at POR at around 11:15-11:30. I'm glad the luggage wasn't delivered until we called hotel luggage in the morning. Bell services brought the luggage to our room about 10 minutes after I called (around 7:30am); much better than getting it between 2am and 4am. :thumbsup2

As long as you attach the DME tags to your luggage before checking it at your home airport, you do/will not see it again until it magically appears in your room (assuming, of course, that you actually board the DME bus but that's another issue :))
You should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS bring a carry on whenever you fly, in the not-uncommon case that the airline "misdirects" your checked luggage.
Your carry on should contain valuables, travel documents, medications, basic toiletries and at least one change of clothing specific to what you plan to do the first few hours after arrival. For example, if you're arriving late you want to bring nightclothes and maybe a change of clothes for the next day. If you're getting there midday and plan to swim, obviously you want to carry on your bathing suit. If you're heading out to dinner, you might want to change into clothes you haven't worn all day...

I know what is supposed to be in my carry on...I dont know how much I like not seeing my luggage...even tho we havent had anything happen with our luggage on our cruises and stuff...I just watched a marathon of Airplane (the tv show and a and e) its amazing what people go thru on airline stuff...

Also, do the yellow tags work when you DO NOT use disney for air travel??? We booked out own it was cheaper

If you have a ressie with DME it doesn't matter how your airfare was booked. DME will mail you a little envelope with the tags and your bus transfer tickets about one week before you leave for your trip. I always book my own airfare..........

I was worried about our luggage too. We got to POFQ at about 10:30am on DME, got our room at about noon, left some of our carryons with bell services, and went to Epcot until evening. Got back to the room around 7pm and our luggage wasn't there. I was worried but just after DH went to ask, there was a knock at the door and everything had gotten there just fine. I didn't expect it to take that long but it doesn't matter because it worked. We didn't use Disney for our travel plans but the yellow tags did their job!

One thing has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the other. The only criteria for using DME (with the luggage delivery) are arriving at MCO on a commercial airline AND being named on a reservation at a Disney owned-and-operated resort.

THAT'S ALL. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

When you check your luggage at the airline resort check-in? Does DME just pick up the luggage or do you have to stay with it? When we use the airline check in at the port with DCL they take our luggage to the airport in a truck and then us on the bus. Is this the same process for the hotels? Thanks.

That's the entire point of Resort Airline Check-In. Think about it, if you checked it in at the resort but then had to stay with it, what would be the point of checking it in???

DME doesn't handle the luggage going back to MCO. Resort Airline Check-In and DME are two separate entities. The luggage you check in will be transported to MCO by truck. You will be transported by DME bus. You won't see your luggage again until it's on your home airport's baggage claim carousel.

I hope this answers your questions. Please post again if you still aren't clear about this stuff. :goodvibes

Thanks. It gets really confusing :confused3 as to who is handling what. So do I need special luggage tags (for resort check-in or just the normal airline tags) or a special voucher to board the DME bus? Thanks

When you use Resort Airline Check-In, there are no special DME tags you have to get. They will tag your bags with the airline tags, you know, the ones you get at the airport that have the 3-letter airport code of the airpoty you're about to fly to.

You will need a DME bus voucher, but you'll actually have that in your original DME information booklet, and if you don't have it for whatever reason you can get it at the beginning of your vacation when you checked in at the DME Welcome Center when you first arrived at MCO.

Very cool...at least I wont need to worry about luggage and getting to the resort early...Since we are getting in at 1045..if we have just minimal stuff for carry on they can take the rest to the resort it looks like our best option.
