We just returned from DW and found that the ME folks are not aware that you do NOT have to pay extra baggage fees if you are traveling via American Airlines under the same record locator with a Gold Member (Priority Member). It took me over an hour to get my fees reimbursed. Long story short it was a nightmare. I plan to email ME and hope they educate their staff. If you would rather bypass ME and check your own bags that might be easier.

BTW, the Hyatt has a wonderful breakfast at the airport hotel. We had plenty of time after ME dropped us off.
 
Thanks for the head's up! I was wondering how to handle ME, with those of us who do have free baggage at check in. Did you fly first class or coach? I thought upgrading to first class might make a difference.:) BTW, did you stay overnight at the Hyatt, or just eat there? :)
 
We flew coach. The ME folks don't understand the American Airlines Priority ratings and the ammenities such as free baggage. My husband was platinum and is now gold. We never use our miles on first class. I would definately call ahead of time and straighten the issue out before hand. Make sure they know you are flying on the same record locator. All traveling under the same record locator number receive free baggage - assuming one of the passangers is a priority member. Check to see about first class. It would seem you're paying enough for it :)

We just ate at the Hyatt. Great food and very relaxing. You don't feel like your eating at the "airport"

I was a little confused by your post. I thought that the BAGS Inc. reps at the resorts only charged based on what your airline record locator showed was due and that, even then, you had to call in advance to arrange for the payment before you check your luggage. Did your AA record show a bag fee would be due and did you have to pay in advance of check-in at the resort? Thanks for the further info. -- Suzanne
 

ME has nothing to do with the airline check in. A prior poster indicated Bags Inc, this could be correct but I am not sure. You might try over on the Transportation Board and someone could there could give you more info.

Thanks for the heads-up! I know exactly what you're talking about, and I wondered if I'd have problems. From your post, it sounds like I might. Did your DH have problems? My DH is Elite on Continental, so he's exempt from baggage fees. According to Continental's rules, like American it sounds like, I should also be exempt from baggage fees when I'm flying on the same confirmation as him. So I might get asked to pay. Did your DH or did the ME people at least know that part of the rule?
 
Don't know if it is Bags, Inc or RAC but they have nothing to do with ME so a letter to ME will do no good. You need to contact the appropriate desk to make certain your bags are handled and charged or not charged as they should be. Your bags do arrive by ME but do not leave with ME handlng them. I wish ME did handle all the bags as we travel SW so have to take out bags on the bus and then get them to the ticket counter or curbside check in once we get to the airport.
