I posted earlier in the week about my experience using extra FastPasses at the Magic Kingdom and promised to described my full day later on. Here is the breakdown of everything:

Mission: Maximizing fun for thrill-seeking 6 year old daughter. Meet and greet as many characters as possible on a moderately crowded day at Magic Kingdom

Pre-booked Fastpasses

Space Mountain: 10:35-11:35
Peter Pan: 11:55-12:55
Anna and Elsa: 1:25-2:25

How the Day Played Out:

8:10: Arrive and enter the park, wait about six rows back from the front of the line

8:45: Opening show

8:50: First Rope Drop: Proceed to rope drop at Frontierland

9:00 Frontierland Rope Drop: Proceed to Big Mountain Thunder Railroad

9:00-9:15: Ride BTMR twice (allowed to reride without getting off)

9:15-9:40: Ride Splash Mountain – Walk On

9:45: Ride Haunted Mansion – Walk On

10:03: Ride IASW – 2 minute wait

10:15-10:45: Walk to Space Mountain, ride standby (10 minute posted wait, actual wait 5 minutes), ride again using FP

1:20: Anna & Elsa & Sleeping Beauty with FP

Now begins the use of the extra FPs, Kiosk Wait 5-8 minutes

2:05: FP for Dumbo for 2:20-3:20. Ride at 2:15. Dumbo Standy Wait is 60 minutes.

2:30: FP for Winnie the Pooh for 2:50-3:50. Ride at 3:00. Rejected FP for Under the Sea at 4:50. Winnie the Pooh Standby Wait is 45 minutes.

10:20: Barnstormer -- Walk On

10:30-11:00: Ride Space Mountain Standby Twice

11:00: Electrical Parade

Lessons:

(1) There is great value to be achieved through extra Fastpasses. We would've left the park in the afternoon with FP+ because the waits in the afternoons are typically too long for my liking. FP+, however, allowed us to walk on rides that others were waiting quite a long time for. I kinda felt sorry for them. Someone gets in line for Buzz at 5:00. I get a FP at the Jungle Cruise kiosk at the same time and am on the ride in 10 minutes. They are still waiting for 20 more minutes.

(2) The ability to arrive 5 minutes early increases the value of FP+ when utilized multiple times.

(3) A good strategy is to use an extra FP on Jungle Cruise because you can immediately schedule another FP after the kiosk at the ride. The same thought applies to Dumbo and Goofy near the Big Circus kiosk, too.

(4) Rope drop matters. You can do so much early. Also, don't schedule your FastPasses too early (at least at MK) because they do not add value when everything is a walk on early. The 11-2 pm framework is the best bet.

(5) The stunning success of the 9:30-10:00 window of Under the Sea, Ariel's Grotto, and watching fireworks at Gaston's Tavern will lead me to use this strategy time and again in the future.

(6) Closing the park matters. My M.O. has always been open the parks, close the parks, and be somewhere else in the afternoons. This is the firs time I have ever stayed throughout the day, all because of FP+.

(7) Don't think I needed to be there so early since I was starting with Frontierland. Could still have been near the front of Frontierland Rope Drop if I was 30 minute later in arriving at the park.

(8) My daughter is a trooper.

Woot, woot! You post is giving me so much excitement for next week. I've anticipated a similar plan. I really think that now that they've taken the 3 pass restriction away, FP+ is going to be so much better than legacy except for the highest volume times when you might not be able to pull good FP's later in the day.

And kudos to your daughter!! :bitelip:

Sounds like FP+ worked great for you and your DD is a trooper!! Where are the kiosks located? Did it seem like it was a pain to go and get the FP? How much walking around did you do to get them? Trying to get a good plan for my next trip. Thanks!!

Wow! 10 FP's!!! That's awesome!
I personally have loved FP+ way more than legacy FP... I feel so much more relaxed in my touring!

Kiosks were generally quick except for the first one in Fantasyland, which was 5-8 minutes. CMs manned most of the kiosks during this day, but on Wednesday night that was not the case. The kiosks I used were: right next to Mickey Philharmagic, back of Big Top Circus (not crowded at all), right at entrance of Jungle Cruise, right outside Stitch ride in Tomorrowland. There are at least two more: one outside Buzz, one somewhere in Frontierland, but not near BTMR or Splash Mountain.

Thanks for this really informative and helpful post. Fireworks from Gastons Tavern is a neat idea. I'm assuming you can't see the castle projection show from there?

~OMG, I am totally exhausted just from reading this! :faint: You & your DD had a fabulous day at the Magic Kingdom -- and she sounds like quite the trooper!!!

~Now *this* is how it's done. I am so beyond impressed -- thank you so much for sharing this and taking the time to detail and outline your entire day. It's incredibly helpful for those of us with upcoming trips to Disney World!

~I cannot believe how you've already mastered the FP+ system. Wow, you really are the mack daddy of FP+. Enjoy the rest of your trip and I hope to read more about it. I need a vacation so bad, I cannot wait to return to Disney World! :cool1: :goodvibes

Thanks for sharing. I like that you were able to get a fastpass and rather then waiting in line could do other things like look around, shop, get snacks, just relax - rather then standing in line. I would love to get a FP for each ride I wanted to go on through the day before I got there and instead of waiting in lines in mid afternoon, having fun between FP ride times.

At the highest volume times you couldn't get good FPs later in the day with paper FP either. That isn't going to change.

This was especially true with non-FP, nearby Meet and Greets. So at 2:30 I get Pooh for 2:55. What did we do? The Minnie/Daisy M&G, knowing we get to walk on Pooh right when we are done. Similarly, at 3:50 we get Jungle Cruise for 4:25. So we go across the street and meet Tinkerbell.

Thanks for this really informative and helpful post. Fireworks from Gastons Tavern is a neat idea. I'm assuming you can't see the castle projection show from there?

Yeah, no Castle projection, but you can catch a glimpse of Tinkerbell. Still, very few people were there, it was very peaceful, and we had seats. Quite awesome.

And you're in perfect position to ride Barnstormer, Dumbo, Pooh, or Under the Sea immediately thereafter.

I wish I could have done half the things you did while we were there! (We went day after New Years Day, VERY BUSY!) Watching the fireworks from Gaston's Tavern sounds very interesting! I'll definitely check that out the next time we are there! Thanks for posting this!

WOW, I can only hope I find the energy for this, I am on the "older" mom side and move a little slower.

Congrats on a wonderful and eventful day!

Thank you for following up on your original post. Now this is how I like to tour :). I'm very relieved...

Now, don't you find it ironic?...those of us who are in the "know" will be able to maximize our FP use. Those people in the standby lines were likely unaware that they could get more than 3 FP. It kind of gives us an advantage, doesn't it ;) ? Wasn't that the biggest complain about FP-? And the justification for spending all this money?

With this change, FP+ is finally becoming an improvement for everyone:

1) newbies, those who don't plan or research, and those who would never have used FP because they thought they had to pay for it, get their three guaranteed FPs.

2) planners and commando-types get their 10+ FPs per day, plus get to reserve their 3 toughest/must do's ahead of time.

3) parkhopping folk get to hop.

Sounds like a win-win to me :)

I think I may have been won over!

(I think they still need to tweak for those who use their third FP for nightime entertainment)
