MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

Hi All! My husband's not a big group thing either, but he'll come because I ask. We've gotten our shirts. I ordered sweat shirts for Carly and I. It may be too hot to wear them for long, but I thought they would be nice in theaters and when we stay at WDW after.

Question for those of you with teenage daughters. Carly and I have been going through her clothes trying to decide what she will wear to dinners. Right now she has a couple of dresses and a skirt. Do you think it would be okay if she just wore jeans and a nice top the other nights?

TIA,
tenya:santa:

Tenya -- I only have boys, but I think that jeans with a nice top are fine for the casual dinners. Or maybe she had a couple of tops that can mix-match with her skirt? The thing about dinner is that once you are seated, you only are seen from the top :)

What's funny about my DH is that while he is often reluctant to go to group-activities (not just DIS-related), he always enjoys it once he's there :)

I'm going to make my packing list on Tuesday.

Wow - I miss a few days and have pages of reading to catch up on. I just about spilled my tea on the keyboard when I read it was 6 weeks (as of yesterday) - goodness knows I better get off my duff and start making sure I have everything in order - like bathing suits for the kids, shorts that actually fit etc.

My teenage daughter also doesn't know what to wear - she will wear a skirt if I ask her too, but she's not happy about it because she's convinced she's the only one so "OVERDRESSED" (typical eye roll inserted here)

I've lost track of the whole FE and Secret Santa stuff - I think I signed up - but let me check the front page list. I know I'm def. in for the ornament exchange.

Someone's husband was arranging a private dive on Cayman Is. - is he still doing that? Would he be looking for someone else to share the cost with? My DH sorted of looked into it - and then forgot and left it for me - so now all of a sudden he wants me to help him arrange it (which is husband speak for will I just take care of it) If not - thats ok.

Anyway - let me read some of the back pages and I'll post more later

I (a teenage girl) think that skirts and dresses are easiest for dinner. last year i did skirts dresses and dress pants.:thumbsup2 just thought u might wana know

I just went over a redid our packing list from our last cruise. somehowwe have a five page packing list and a one page list for our carry ons. Why we have so much is beyond me. How were going to get it all down there is another question. thankfully we booked our flights early enough so there is no charge for the first bag just the second one.

So we were talking at lunch yesterday and one of the boys asked if we were going to go to the beach over the winter holidays. It has been a family tradition of ours to be at a beach for New Years. Because we're doing the cruise this year, we have not rented a beach house nor made reservations like we did last year at DVC Vero Beach. I'm hoping that two days at Castaway Cay will be a good substitution :)

There is a restaurant called Cozumel that we enjoy when we visit my SIL/BIL who live in Smyrna, TN. We'll be visiting them over Thanksgiving and were talking about going there. Then Nathan says he'd like to go to Cozumel some day and see the ruins. (oops - we're going on the Dolphin Encounter!). I need to figure out if there is a way we can "see" some ruins while we're there in Cozumel as well... although that might be a good-enough reason for a return visit :) I said I'd like to go to Cozumel and do a dolphin thing like our friend did (and the boys saw pictures of). They both then said "we can see dolphins at Sea World." (Zachary's 5th grade field trip is to Sea World in March.) Oh well - they'll just have to deal with it.

I'm going to make my official packing list tomorrow while we have the day off. And then go shopping ;)

Cindy, good point about only being seen from the waist up when sitting down. I think we'll plan on jeans unless I happen to find something she'll wear.

Lisa, how is it that every teenage girl can make their mom's feel like the biggest idiot in the world with just a roll of the eye. Tell you daughter Carly will be wearing dresses and skirts on at least 3 nights. Also, my husband might be interested in joining in on a dive. We're signed up for the 7 Mile Beach Break, but I can always cancel him. Let me know.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Good morning!
My dh besides not wearing matching shirts also does not like meet and greets. However, like other husbands, once he is there he really likes it. I made him go to one when we went to Bermuda on RCCL last year. He grumbled the whole time before, but once we were there he enjoyed himself and won a prize.

Cute pre-cruise story: Background-whenever we go to WDW, we always go grocery shopping because we stay at DVC and we have the big kitchen. Madison (7 year old) is an orange juice fanatic. I always buy her the big jug of orange juice to last the 7 days we are there. We always have breakfast and sometimes lunch in the room and we order in pizza once. So she is used to not going out to eat for every meal when we are on vacation.
Anyway, yesterday she said to me to make sure that when we get on the ship that I buy her the big orange juice for the trip. I told her that we don't have a kitchen like at WDW and no grocery shopping, that we have to "eat out" for every meal. She was jumping up and down saying, "Wow-every meal in a restaurant!!". She then stopped and froze and said with the biggest frown on her face, "What if they don't have orange juice?" I just started laughing because it was so cute. The point of the story is that I am so excited to share this cruise experience with my girls. While they have gone on many vacations I just don't think they understand what really happens on a cruise.

Back to reality-my girls have 1/2 days of school all week because of parent/teacher conferences. I better go get some school work done because they will be home faster then usual.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

OK, I know there is a post in here with the T-Shirt picture in it but I couldn't find it easily. Does anyone know the post number or could I get a copy of the picture. I have extra white shirts and iron-on transfers and thought I would just make ours but need the picture. I tried to get it from Cafe Press, but all the pictures included items and had extra shading.

Thanks!

Renee - I think you can get the images from Diana who set up the CafePress shop for us - send a PM to Diana Lyn and I bet she can take care of you.

Angie - I'm LOL'ing about your DD - that is so sweet. Nathan is a big OJ drinker, too, so we always make sure he gets some OJ at breakfast because with him, a day without orange juice really is a day without sunshine :)

They have the little cups of juice at breakfast but you can get a big cup if you want - or even get a paper cup from the beverage station outside and have them fill it with oj "to go" if you want.

We got some fresh pineapple last week and it was so good. I have fresh pineapple with breakfast every morning on a cruise. I was just getting in practice ;)

What is everyones plans for Cozumel?? We are thinking about going to a beach but not sure which is a good one to go too. We want one with a nice pool, beach and good drinks:yay: Not too far from the pier would be nice so that we can do some shopping too. Any advice would be appreciated. Only 38 days till we get to leave from home. i can't wait. Our first Christmas party is only 2 weekends away which is hard to believe.

Cute OJ story. My DD is just the opposite with OJ. She drank too much one Christmas morning, and let's just say it wasn't pleasant!

We're doing the jeep tour in Cozumel.

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. Unfortunately I am not. Some how i've got pink eye and an infected toe. I now know why kids are so fussy when they have this it hurts. I know the pink eye will be cleared up before the trip i'm praying my toe is. Who knows how that happened as I alwys wear tennis shoes to work. I told mom we all need to start upping our vitamins and handwashing nobody is allowed to be sick for this trip.

Happy Veteran's Day to any vets on our cruise. Thank you for the job you do!

Today is the last day to sign up for Secret Santa. Please PM me today if you want to participate.

Yea for us -- I looked at our reservation last night and we've been switched to main dining. Now if my request for PLLAPLA comes through.

It's Veteran's day... no school, no work for me... and we have 3 hours at the ortho. At 16 my son is thrilled to finally get them off. I need a good book!!

One of my sisters going on the cruise will not participate, :confused3 she says its too much work but she had a fish hanger made. I borrowed her kids 4 and 6 and we made stuff to put in the fish extenders for the trip, this weekend I get them back to finish them all up. I am mailing them out to another sister in VA who is driving to take them to the ship. It my be too much for my baby sister but her kids would be disappointed if everyone else participated and they didn't get anything.

Oh well, we made foam cards and we will do some candy bags this weekend. Lots of little girl decorating. fun time for me too. She loses out not the girls now

I sent the spreadsheet out via email this morning to those who have asked for it before and have sent me their email address. If you need it, you can email me at cindysjunk @ comcast.net (obviously take the spaces out) or PM me with your email address and I'll send it out to you today.

If your info is incorrect on the spreadsheet, post it here on the thread so that everyone can just make their corrections themselves.

There are two that I didn't have cabin-numbers for so be sure to watch the thread for their cabin.

Lissa - sorry 'bout the pink eye and the sore toe - hope it's all well by the time we sail. We got flu shots (well, Gary and I did) last week. The kids don't want shots and the insurance won't pay for the swabs, so we'll just hope they don't get sick.

For Cozumel, we're doing the dolphin encounter with some of the group, and we'll do some shopping in the port. I need to find a "lay of the land" map to get my bearings before we go. I think the boys will want to try some authentic mexican food while we're there as well.

I'm about to drop Zachary off for a play date and then get the oil changed in the car and then do errands. I'm trying to not do too many house-projects today - I was going to but decided to not waste my day (LOL).

Correction to the spreadsheet for those that have received it.

xsjackson4 - cabin number is 7508 (not 7580).
xsjackson5 is actually not a separate cabin - he is in with xsjackson2 (7507/7505)
