MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

Hi Everyone! Welcome to all the new people. We got back from WDW late last night. It was a great trip busy on the weekends but not to bad during the week. I am so ready for this cruise every time we saw a DCL bus last week we were all like we want to be on that. Oh well still have to plan our August trip before i can even think about the cruise. Hope everyone is doing well.

My traveling party is myself, dh, and dd(10) and dd (7-turning 8 , 2 days after the cruise).
Also traveling with us is my brother, SIL, and nephew(5).
This is our first Disney cruise. :woohoo: We have visited WDW atleast once a year for longer than I can remember but this is totally new experience for us.

Again, welcome to all the newcomers!

Hi everyone!!!!!

Long time, no talk!:sad1: This thread has been a little quiet for a while, hunh? I am sure with the weather warming up in the north, everyone is very busy doing outdoor things, right? I remember wanting to be outside every minute in the sun once it started warming up in late April, early May! Although, my DH said that in some parts of the north, snow is still falling. I can remember getting snowfall into June!:scared1: It is now 90 degrees and sunny on a daily basis here.:thumbsup2

We have been super busy with school and baseball! Last Thursday, Mitchell had a field trip to San Antonio, and he has 2 or 3 baseball games a week. Thank God Morgan has no aspirations in life (she is 15 y.o. and her hobby is the phone:lmao: ), so she watches the baby while we run around with Mitchell.

I had face surgery today ( the dermatologist removed a cyst that was near the corner of my mouth) and it STINGS!! Unfortunately, he said there will be a scar, but it had to go. I have had it for about 6 months and it was getting bigger and more painful.:scared: Even just a couple hours old, the incision is already puffy and bruised.:sad1:

Well, we have 8 months to go and I am getting really excited about the cruise! I looked in my trip journal (I have a journal that I write about EVERY trip we have EVER taken to WDW, DCL!! complete with a time line from booking to end of trip) and at this time last trip, I was ordering our Disney logo t-shirts. I looked on Disneyshopping.com, and they have new ones that I am going to order for us pretty soon. I told Morgan that we need to get working on our fish extender and start buying stocking stuffers for Secret Santa. She is beyond excited, and wants to go NOW (can't say I blame her!) Anyone else started buying odds and ends yet?

Gotta go now and pick Mitchell up from baseball practice! I hope everyone starts writing again soon. I miss reading and writing to all of you!

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well since SPRING IS FINALLY HERE!!! Wow, I thought when the kids got older that school and everything would be easier on me - boy was I wrong - Gotta go

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hello everyone, it's been awhile since we have checked in, so I thought I would say hi. We are so happy spring is here at last! We have been outside all weekend long and have been loving the 70 - 80 degree weather. It is so nice not having to worry about slipping on the ice or snow blowing our driveway! We have been busy with spring sports as Nick has started playing lacrosse and Connor will be playing soccer. The boys have spring break starting next week, but we don't have too much planned. We went down to Orlando for their Feb. "ski" week and had a blast at Universal. Of course we had to get our Disney fix in as well, so we ended up going to the Pirate & Princess Party one night. It was a great way to get out of the cold.

Does anyone know how many people want to do the secret santa/fish extender gifts? I am starting to think about it, but don't know how much stuff to get yet. I have been looking at the threads that people post on with their fish extender gifts, so I am coming up with some great ideas.

Well, I'm off to the grocery store, so hope everyone has a great day!:goodvibes

Hiya everyone! Great to see even more new DISers joining the meet thread. How many DISers does that put us up to?

We should probably start getting a list together of who wants to participate in the Fish Extender Gift Exchange, too -- so we'll have plenty of time to plan and prepare for it! For those who don't know, one of the traditions among DISers is to exchange little gifts with other DISers throughout the cruise. It can be a one-time thing or multiple little gifts spread over several days. A Fish Extender is a bag or hanging thing that you hang from the fish that is right outside your stateroom door so that people can leave you msgs or trinkets :) Gifts can be little things like beads and pirate rings or postcards and bookmarks from where you live, or Disney related or whatever your IMAGINATION comes up with! There are several threads on the main board about Fish Extenders and examples of gifts for plenty of ideas. I know I'm hoping we'll have a big group participating for this cruise and I'm already brainstorming ideas before we head into the summer (in case there are any summer-items I want to pick up while they are "in season").

Hey BEARFAN - we went to Costa Maya in Dec. 2005 but only went into the immediate port area -- I'd love to hear more about Costa Maya and what there is to do there... wanna share some experiences, tips, adventures?? I can't wait til the excursions are listed for us to start looking at.

Good Morning!
Hi nzdisneymom, I think we may have met before! :goodvibes 2005, I believe that's when we were in Costa Maya last also. We may have even been on the same cruise with you. It was a western and we were scheduled to go to Cozumel but couldn't because of the recent hurricane there. DCL told us that we were going to Nassau and many people pitched an absolute fit over that port. Then at check in we were told that they were substituting Costa Maya at the last minute. There were loads of happy campers at that point. It seems to me that we also did the port but went on a beach excursion also. Can't remember it exactly but do remember the great feeling we got there from the grateful people who came to work there from as far away as Cancun because of the hurricane devastation on the Yucatan. People were just so happy to see us (and of course our money). It meant survival for them. It was a whole different feel from Cozumel, which at times, can be higher pressure to get you into their shops. We were impressed by the layout at the immediate port area and the cultural entertainment available there for free. I know that it will have a whole different look to it this time becuase of the rebuilding but I hope they keep the intimate feel.

Hi
We are booked on the May 25th Mexican Riv Cruise-very excited. We are going with family. My Dh and I are wanting to do the Christmas Cruise. DO you think we should book now or wait to do it on the ship?? We are first time DCL cruisers so I wonder if we would get better rates after we had sailed. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mary

Mary,
DCL always offers onboard rebooking incentives. But you must book while onboard, they do not apply once you leave. I am not certain what they'd be for the Christmas cruise but there will be something to be sure. You may want to post to the general DCL forum and ask someone who's been on recently.

Hi Mary, we hope to have you join us on the Christmas cruise. If I were you, I would book now, and then once on the cruise, check to see if it would be better for you to book on board. They can cancel your original reservation and you could then have the incentives of booking on board. I don't know how much, if any, the price will go up from now until your cruise, but I would play it safe and book now. Just my 2 cents! Good luck and have a great cruise!

So I found the best way to keep this cruise as a SURPRISE for the kids -- and that was to book another cruise... only this time instead of Disney, we booked Freedom of the Seas for Christmas 2009. It will sail from Port Canaveral and have an Eastern itinerary (St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and Coco Cay). I'm going to tell them this afternoon about it - so they will be even more surprised when we sail on Disney THIS Christmas.

That is awesome!! After this Disney cruise, we're going to try a RCCL cruise. I'm trying to hold out for that new ship.

I haven't been around much, welcome to all the newcomers! I'm Diana, Bruce is my DH and Emma and Julia will be 5 and 4 when we cruise. This will be our 6th cruise, the girls 4th but all of our first time on the Magic.

Good afternoon everyone! I am glad to see we are getting more active in our posting!!!

Cindy, I agree 100% that we need to start planning for our fish extender gift exchange, Secret Santa, ornament exchanges, etc... I would be more than happy to organize this if everyone is in agreement. I will be my first time planning such activities, but with a little patience from everyone and little bit of pixie dust from you know who, I just might be able to pull it off!:rolleyes1

So, if everyone who wants to participate in these activities would PM me, we can get a list going. Exactly what activities do we want to do? All three, combine the fish extender and Secret Santa, or none of the above?:confused3 I will take any positive input and/or advice anyone can give me! Or, if one of you is more experienced in planning such events, than feel free to coordinate!:thumbsup2 I will help in any way I can.

Hope to hear from everyone soon!

I say if you're willing to organize---organize away!!

I think the ornament exchange is a great idea and maybe we can make that our "Family Secret Santa" Like, the organizer takes everyone who wants to participate and then picks names out of a hat and assigns each family a family to present an ornament too.

What about having the Fish Extender gifts like stockings? Little things like stickers, tatoos, etc.

Wow Diana, you must have read my mind!!!!!:) I was thinking the same exact thing regarding the ornament exchange.;) I thought we could draw names at the "meet and greet" and then have a little "get together" later in the week at one of the lounges to exchange ornaments.:thumbsup2

As far as the fish extender gift go, do we want adults AND children, or children only?:confused3 I can think of neat little trinkets for both adults and/or children so it doesn't matter to me, I just need to know what we all think so I can better plan.

I have the next 5 days off from work, YEAH!!!:cool1: I plan to do a lot of cruise related planning(making lists, buying stocking stuffers, fish extender materials, etc...) I hope to hear from more people soon!

My 2 cents worth on the Fish Extender/Stocking Gifts----I think we should include both kids and adults because people who don't have kids may want presents! I'm thinking like if I got tatoos or stickers, I'd do 1 per person, but if I did something like a notepad, I'd do one per family. KWIM?

I also like doing the fish extenders for adults and kids...makes it fun for everyone. Love drawing names for ornament exchange. This cruise is going to be so much fun! I just wish it was a 10 day instead of a 7 day.

Have a great night everyone.

I can't believe that I'm so excited about Christmas and it's only April! :santa: Although, we have a chance of snow on Monday, it seems like it's a million miles away from today. Count me in on the ornament exchange. Do we need to think about setting a dollar amount? We don't have a fish extended but I'd be in for that as well. On the westbound repo this past summer, I didn't participate in that but ended up getting some goodies on the door anyway. What a special treat. We'll definitely do it this time I brought a magnetic wipe-off/bulletin board for our door and we got the neatest messages on it from passers-by. It was a real sense of community. I can't wait!!!!!
