Forgive me if everybody else already knows this, but if I didn't, there's a good chance others don't as well.

When I spoke to our guide last week, he said DVC will not buy back 2002 points from addons at BCV unless you buy 100 or more.

I am also unclear about the dues status of 2002 points you get under the current offer. Apparently just getting these points in the first place is a good deal because you ordinarily wouldn't. (Our use year is October BTW.) I assume you begin paying dues on them immediately but they don't charge back dues from 2002 for them. Am I right?

It seems like some sort of bargain, but one that is not simple to evaluate.

We spoke to our DVC guide this week as well about a Magical Beginnings Add-on. Here's how I understand it:

BCV addons - 100 pt minimum, $10 per point MB discount $74/pt or use as down payment

HH & VB addons - 50 pt minimum, $15 per point MB discount $69 per point or use as down payment

Dues are calculated per calendar year the day you sign the deal, you cannot buy a magical beginnings add-on within the last 3 months of your use year.

Why can't you buy within the last 3 months of your use year? Just wondering, we have decided to 'make do' with our 150 points, but had considered an add on. Now it sounds like it wasn't even an option after all! Our use year is in April.

You can buy an addon in the last 3 mos of your use year, you just cannot use the Magical Beginnings promotion. I'm not sure how they determined the 3 month time frame, but it makes sense that the promotion wouldn't be very advantageous for DVC if they let you sell back your pts too close to the end of the use year.

I asked my DVC guide about the three month window. Basically, as she explained it to me, I'd have no bankable points therefore there would be nothing for Member services to "buyback". The inventory that DVC buys back is opened as inventory for cash ressies, there isn't much time to book those points as cash ressies so it is a greater risk.

Simply stated, if you bought points within 3 months of your use year, you'd probably lose the points (and yet still have to pay dues on them). That's because there usually isn't much availability (most days/rooms are already reserved) if you are only booking 3 months or less from arrival. Neither Disney nor you can use the points if there are no dates/rooms left.

I may be way off on this but at this point with an April use year, wouldn't you be buying 2003 points and couldn't you sell back your 2003 points?

Terry S, good question. Don't know the answer to that one, I didn't ask specific questions when talking to my guide. She just said that if we wanted to do the MB add-on we had until the end of Feb to decide since we have a June use year. She didn't offer selling back the 2003 pts as an option, but that should be an option as well, as long as the MB promotion doesn't end.

Right now, you are still in the 2002 use year if your use year month is April.

If you bought now and only received 2003 points, you'd be paying 2003 dues before you even receive the points. Remember dues are paid on a calendar basis, not a use year basis, and they begin when you sign the purchase agreement. There's no advantage to buying now with an April use year (unless for some reason you think your use year is about to be sold out or the that the price will increase). Might as well wait until at least the beginning of your use year and save a few $$ on dues if you aren't getting 2002 points.
