Magic stolen 3 times

...anyone stayed there and seen the safes?

I've stayed at the French Quarter several times, and I can say from experience that the room safes are NOT large enough for any laptop I've ever seen.

Mousekeeping may not have stolen the items or looked through the bag. When they are cleaning rooms, they crack a couple of doors at a time. All someone has to do is sneak in when they aren't looking, take a few things quickly and be out before anyone knows it. Even though they put the cart in front of the doors, you can still get by them. We had to do it once to our room and the mousekeeper never saw us.

I know that they keep the doors open-they need to change that. But I do know that the last time that we went, if Mousekeeping was in our room and we wanted to go in, she would close the door and use our room card to open the door to ensure that it was our room.

I really feel for all of the people that have had things stolen at the resorts or in the parks. That's really sad that people stoop to such lows to steal at the most magical place on earth!

Unfortunately, there are thieves at Disney just like there are in the rest of the world.

You're right. I had a nice cellphone and when riding on Dinosaur at AK I left it in the pouch in front of you. I got off the ride without it, realized it when I got to the photo counter. It was so quickly since I had gotten off that I went back and they waited until the car came back around and it was empty (funny enough, it was the very first time it returned since I got off) and when it returned they asked the kid in my seat if he found a cellphone. He said "no" (which I really didn't believe) and walked away. They stopped the ride to look for it and it never showed up at Lost and Found. I knew it was funny that it would have fallen out of the pouch.

Sure enough 2 weeks later my bill came in and someone had been downloading pop songs to the cellphone. Not only is it a thief by stealing the phone, they put charges on it. Not only is that a thief, that's a completely disrespectful and completely rediculous person. I would hope his parents taught him better.

Kris,
I've taken my lap top every trip hasn't been stolen yet. I do put it away every time I leave the room. Since I'm a dvc member I don't get mousekeeping every day so it cuts down on the number of times people should be in my room. I will take mines again but I am investing in a cable locking device (very inexpensive at circuit city).

This is totally off topic but I noticed your screename is Eliza61. My 7 1/2 month old daughter is named Eliza! Is that your name? We just love it!!! I was just curious!

once while it was raining me and a few folks took cover next to the hot dog stand in frontier land. the couple witnessed a kid about 9 rummaging through their stroller and when they yelled at him he acted like he didn't know what they were talking about and walked away. Myguess is kids take most of the stuff frum strollers.

Last year a group of young teenagers grabbed my DS mickey's philharmagic cap off his head as we were going up the ramp to the monrails. My son is in a wheelchair....he cried his eyes out! DIRTY BIRDS....

Castmembers came to our aid and disney gave him another one. Today, at Universal someone stole my son's refillable cup right off his wheelchair when he was on a ride and in front of castmembers! Again, catmembers came to his rescue again and gave hin a new cup filled. Geez, why steal a used cup :confused3 what kind of morals do you have stealing from the sick and disabled...Gosh, my son can't defend himself! :furious:

That was very disturbing to read...I cannot believe how people are capable of acting--especially in Disney. Sadly, as much as I would like to believe it doesn't...loose morals and bad manners can invade even the most happiest places on earth :sad2:

I'm sorry to all who have lost or had things stolen while at Disney. I too think we (my family) kind of let our guard down while we are there. Next visit I plan on being a bit better about it.

Just a note about things getting mixed up in sheets & bedding -I hate to say it but if it doesn't turn up within the day I'd guess it was stolen - :furious: Once when we were at ASSP they changed the bedding, and we had put down a crib sized waterproof pad for my son to sleep on (not 100% potty trained at night). When I realized it was missing I called Mousekeeping - thinking it would never turn up, it was white like sheets & not very big - and I didn't really care, I had more with me. They had it delivered to my room about 2 hours after I called! So for them to find something as inconspicuous as a small white waterproof pad, surely a stuffed animal or toy would be found quickly.

This thread is really disheartening, we just all have to keep our guard up & our eyes open I guess!

I'm not sure who a Minnie doll (or a small Mexican flag) would have been stolen by - certainly not Mousekeeping. No, chances are it DID get sent to the laundry area - and since the resort had already replaced the missing doll with two others, probably getting that one back isn't a priority. And while I know it's disheartening to to have anything disappear, chances are the pirate ears never WILL get turned in to Lost & Found, unless maybe they had the son's name embroidered on them?

It can take days/weeks for Lost and Found to find a missing item, and ship it home to you. Luckily, when my DD lost her cellphone on M:S, Guest Services had it in about 15 minutes - which was about how long it took her to realize she had lost it... :rotfl:

I was on line for Space Mountain and the next one to get on, when I noticed a cell phone left in the front seat. I let the CM know and he took it. Hopefully the person it belonged to got it back at Lost & Found.

We were also lucky in MGM. I had the double stroller we rented parked over by Pizza Planet ( :confused3 ) and had forgotten that I left my backpack on it. I didn't realize it until after I had left the arcade to head to the restroom. I am so thankful it was still there will all the contents. We had our video camera in there and my DH would have been furious at me if it was stolen. Prior to this, I always made sure to have that backpack with me anytime we parked the stroller. I remembered reading on these boards that someone left their camcorder in the stroller and it was stolen. I'm usually not the type to leave any valuables on a stroller unattended anyway.

The only things we left on the stroller were our sweatshirts and our DS4's Buzz Lightyear backpack (which only had a change of clothes for him). I wasn't too concerned with those items as I was with my backpack.

OMG, these stories make me so :sad2: . Unfortunately it's a sign of the times and even the happiest place on earth is not immune. I do thank you for sharing because I will be much more careful than I normally am. I think I've taken for granted for years that such things just didn't happen @WDW. Boy was I wrong.

Wow, I am so saddened by all these stories of theft. Not disney related but I had all the peaches stolen off of my peach tree a couple of months ago and I was very upset. One day my peach tree had over a 100 peaches on it and the next day it was completely bare. I just couldn't believe someone would take the time and pick every single peach off of private property. The real despressing part is that I live on a dead end road (secluded area) so not that many people know about the tree. That means it was probably a neighbor that took them all. I asked all my neighbors but no one saw a thing.

We saw a bunch of teens leaving MK one night grab several squeeze breeze fans right off one of the carts and keep walking. I yelled "THEIVES" out really loud and they looked a little nervous. I hope someone was watching, but I doubt it. I also saw a little boy of about 6 pick up an antenna topper off a cart in Epcot and walk off with it. I yelled "did you buy that?" and he ran. In MGM there was a cell phone on the steps next to me while watching the Cars come out on NY Street. I thought it belonged to someone next to me. A younger boy and his teen sister (?) walk by and she picks up the phone! He was saying "what are you doing..." I said "is that yours or did you just steel it?" and he was freaking out. She just walks away fast with it! Nice example for your little brother. Of course there is never a CM/security around to report these things to at the time but at least my comments may have made them think:) Or maybe not... :sad2:

My niece left her autograph book and they told her in Lost and Found that if it had the name and address in it it would be forwarded in a few weeks' time -- kids lose zillions of those things. Sure enough, she got it in the mail about a month later.

I'd beware of professional thieves, and, sadly, there are professional thieves who involve children in their schemes. After all, if the kid gets caught, they won't get prosecuted. Even if the kid is captured, the parent can come forward and act shocked and dismayed and walk away without the police ever getting involved with a simple "Say you're sorry, ___! Believe me, he'll be punished for this!" Then they just start again another day, another park.

Maybe Disney should put fewer cameras on rides to sell pictures and more cameras in the public areas to track thieves.

FYI, the safes at POP Century are more than big enough for a laptop. When we were there in September, we kept our laptop and two ipods in it.

Thanks, amy4bruce! If they are large enough there they should be large enough at the Port Orleans FQ!

I was just looking to see is POP had safes in their rooms after reading thread. Do you know if they are free in all rooms or if you have to request one like the fridge? Thanks

Hi, I believe all the rooms have safes and Yes they are free. I think we left our didital camera and video camera in our safe at POP in Nov 06.
My Dd left her autograph book on a bus one night. I called the TTC l&f and we had also put her name and add in it. One month after we arrived home her book came in the mail!!
There are more good people out there than bad. We still need to be careful though!!

I had a swimsuit taken from our room at the Poly. this past August. The housekeeping supervisor I spoke to took my information, but simply told me to look through my things and let her know if it turns up. I know exactly where it was left in the room. Beware of housekeeping no matter where you stay.
