Magic stolen 3 times

We were in WDW last year for Thanksgiving and never had a problem. We left the camera and 2 pairs of Mickey ears in the stroller every time we went on a ride and when we returned, everything was were we left it. I hope we were more than just lucky.

depending on what resort, i think most have room safes you might be able to fit a laptop in...i was able to fit a larger slr camera in it our last trip.

stealing from within the room is different, Disney knows who cleaned the room and imo that person should be fired since if they'll steal a kid's toy they'd steal anything. we've always had the opposite problem at disney, the housekeepers wouldn't even take the tip i left unless i left a note with it :)

I called PORFQ and the CM told me they do have room safes but they aren't big enough for a laptop...anyone stayed there and seen the safes?

I thought I put mine in the safe at CS last year, but I might have just left it in the case. The time before at CB I left it on the table and no one bothered it...and as you said, the maid never even took the tip unless I left her a note.

Thats just awful that happened to you :(. I recall when i was quite young my younger sister had a mickey backpack stolen from her in DL, she was quite upset.

It's so sad to hear about everyone's stolen items at the World. We had our first experience with a stolen item this past summer. My DD was wearing her Minnie Bridal ears (she's 5, but loves these) while we were at O'hana's. She had to use the restroom and took them off in there. When we got back to our table I realized she was missing her ears and we went right back into the restroom to retrieve them and they were already gone! DD was so upset. Although it was a good lesson for DD to be more aware of her personal items I was disappointed someone had taken them so fast. We asked at O'hana's desk if any had been turned in but none were and we asked again before we left the restaurant again nothing. I did buy DD another pair later in the day and for the rest of the trip she was very aware of where her ears were and if she wanted to take them off she gave them to me for safekeeping.

Until this trip we had never had anything stolen even though we had carelessly left items we bought in the back of our stroller while on attractions. DD's ears incident made us all a little more aware of where our items were.

I had my laptop at PORFQ several times and it does not fit in the safe. I keep it in the bottom of my suitcase with everything on top of it. After reading all of this I may not take it anymore, that's such a shame.

I'm so sorry for you all that have had things taken. It's so sad. :sad2: I think I read on the Dis some place that you can leave things too large for your room safe at the desk in the hotel's larger safe (although that might be scary too? :confused3 ). :grouphug:

I took my laptop two years ago. I put it in one of my suitcases along with anything else I deemed valuable. Then I locked it and the other 3 suitcases as well. No problem ever. I will do the same this trip.

After reading this thread I think I'm going to leave my laptop at home. Such a shame people have to be this way.

As another poster said, all kinds of people go to Disney, so please keep track of your items, just as you would anywhere else. On a positive note, a few weeks ago we were at WDW and twice I left my camera hanging in a restroom stall (the same restroom), both times it was turned in. Yes, I can't believe I left it twice either! :confused3
But, how wonderful that it was turned in. :)

Pretty scary stuff! :sad2:

When I was there in Jan for our wedding I left my laptop out on the table the whole time, guess I was lucky!

I did have a wallet with all my $$ in it stolen from the shower stall thing when I was in the shower half at the Disney campground when I was younger.

I feel for you, but take heart that people who do these things will eventually pay for it.

I found a fanny pack at the Dolphin a few years ago. It was laying near the pool. When I opened it, I realized that I had someone else's vacation in my hands. Substantial cash, park tickets, wallet...

Enough cash that I was leaning toward calling the police instead of turning it in to Lost and Found. Long story short, the guy who dropped it must have realized rather quickly, and came back looking for it. I saw this guy and said, 'Over here' .

The moral is: Some of us have a heart and conscience. For the jerk who would steal a hat from a kid in a wheelchair, I have news for you: There are many more of us than there are of people like you.

2. My daughter left her autograph book at a Minnie display at a store in MGM, when we realized 2 minutes later we left it there, we returned but it was gone also. Again, the store clerk who sat right across from the stand and Lost and Found never showed up! It was filled out with her name and phone number, too!

3. The final episode was just last night in our room at Boardwalk. We have been returning nightly in excitement to see how my other daughter's Rock and Roll Minnie would be posed since we bought it on the first day. Yesterday, we posed her on the pillow before leaving for the day only to return with Minnie gone. The mousekeeping manager was wonderful bringing 3+ Minnies for her to choose from and giving her 2 in the end. She was great but i can't help but wonder where Minnie is.
Addressing only the issues for which there might be reasonable explanations:
2. It's possible somebody picked up the autograph book but didn't turn it in to Lost & Found right away, or that since your contact information is in the book maybe somebody will send it directly to you. (note: I'm not exactly sure what "store clerk who sat right across from the stand and Lost and Found never showed up!" means; are there some words missing from that sentence, or was the store/store clerk across from Lost & Found?)

3. Again, just a possible alternative - the original Minnie doll may well have gotten mixed up with linens or towels while Mousekeeping was working on the room - yes, even if they didn't change the sheets. Maybe they changed the bedspread during your stay!

I left my camera at the registar when we checked out, walked out the store, realized my camera was gone and went back in and it was not there. I had 400+ pics on it from our day at the Walt Disney World Speedway (pics I cannot get back again). I was so upsest. I called every day for a week but it was never found. I left it for 2 minutes. And I would have thought the cashier would have noticed someone pick it up. But I guess not...
You know, though, it's ENTIRELY possible that the cashier did see somebody pick up the camera but thought it was the camera's owner. CMs encounter a LOT of Guests each day; realistically, few people period can be expected to remember every detail of who's wearing what and who's carrying what and who owns what.

I don't know that I'd consider it 'lucky'; NOT having one's stuff stolen is the EXPECTED STANDARD, and it's generally exactly what happens. I'm not clear on if what was in the little bag was missing, or if the OP was just indicating that the item wasn't really jewelry, i.e. wasn't really valuable. But I see I'm not the only poster who thinks Minnie accidentally got mixed up with the sheets; and in all honesty, even if it was just a couple of minutes, the book WAS left behind in public. Sure, whoever found it should have turned it in.

our suitcase was searched through whilst we were at vero beach, as we were only there for 3 days there was very little in it and all the valuables were locked away but it dioes leave a sad and nasty feeling

If I were in the business of burglarery and theiving, the perfect place to launch would be Disneyworld. People enter the property with the care free attitude of a haven from all vices. That being said, most just leave their guards down and lo and behold, something is amiss. I've stated before that if I was an animal, bird or duck, Disneyworld is where I would hang my hat. Beautiful grounds, lakes and pools and endless food. Same for a
thief, people in awe, gawking around and not paying attention, crowds, jumbles people. Ideal pickings. We do not take expensive items with us either to the resort or parks, lap tops and cameras in a room are just looking to grow legs. If it won't fit in the safe or can be locked up in a sturdy suitcase, home it stays. We've never had any problems but after reading all the posts of missing items, it goes on all over, even in your hometown malls, and Disney is not different. You must keep temptation hidden and a viligant eye on your personal possessions.

Mousekeeping may not have stolen the items or looked through the bag. When they are cleaning rooms, they crack a couple of doors at a time. All someone has to do is sneak in when they aren't looking, take a few things quickly and be out before anyone knows it. Even though they put the cart in front of the doors, you can still get by them. We had to do it once to our room and the mousekeeper never saw us.

Being big city natives, my family and I unfortunately tend to be a little suspicious about human nature no matter where we go. So when we too had items stolen from our strollers by rude (not the adjective I really want to use but hey this is a nice site) visitors we tended to be saddened but not surprised. We simply turned it around and gave our sons a small reminder on how we should treat people and went on enjoying our vacation.

Housekeeping is another matter all together. Contact your resort manager immediately if not done so already.

Kris,
I've taken my lap top every trip hasn't been stolen yet. I do put it away every time I leave the room. Since I'm a dvc member I don't get mousekeeping every day so it cuts down on the number of times people should be in my room. I will take mines again but I am investing in a cable locking device (very inexpensive at circuit city).
