I had my laptop at PORFQ several times and it does not fit in the safe. I keep it in the bottom of my suitcase with everything on top of it. After reading all of this I may not take it anymore, that's such a shame.

Ah...well that sort of clinches it for me too, I thought when I read amy4bruce's message that she used hers in Pop Century they'd be big enough at PORFQ, but then Pop Century is so much newer they might have taken laptops into consideration when they built the hotel. I did see Best Buy has a deal on 1 gb memory cards, 3 for something so maybe I will just buy those and leave the laptop at home. having a good excuse for not being able to work isn't all bad...I have had to work when everyone else went to the parks before and it wasn't fun

For those who had things stolen from a room - did you tip mousekeeping?

Not that it would have or should have done anything - but just curious.

Is there room in the FW Cabins for a laptop? If not, I'll bring a key lock to secure it in our suitcase.

We lock up our Disney Dollars and whatever else in the room safe, always. But I never would have thought of something inconsequential.

I DO worry excessively about our strollers.

I can not belive these stories! They break my heart. I can not belive those teens took a boys hat right off his head! I remember being a little wild as a teen but nothing like what I see today! My worst was nothing like that! We went last year and left our camcorder in our stroller all the time - I guess we too were lucky!

We are leaving on Saunday and now I may not even bring my camcorder - it is to hard to bring on rides..... I will be bringing the locks for our bags for the days we do get our room cleaned or towels changed........ We are also only bringing my husbands small camera so it can be in our dorky fanny paks on rides.

Boy, all of these stories are so heartbreaking. As far as who these types of people may be.....now I'm speculating here but selling stolen sovieneers on ebay wouldn't be a bad way of making a few bucks. Not that I'm saying it's okay but it would explain why someone would take a stuffed Minnie Mouse or Mickey ears. All Disney World theme park items do pretty well on ebay.

Sorry about the losses.

At many resorts - I've never tried at WDW - but at many resorts, they will keep valuables in the hotel safe behind the front desk for you.

I can't recall ever having somethig stolen at WDW, but I can recall numerous times gettig stuff back.

MANY years ago, when I was just a kid, I left my pocketbook at a table near Space Mountain. It was turned in with cash and everything. Last year, my cell phone came out of my pocket on BTMRR. I realized very quickly. The CM's weren't very helpful, but the person who rode after me, cam out with it. He had already called the last number dialed on my phone (DH) to let him know he had found it. Dh told him I was probably looking for it, near the exit of the ride. As soon as he got off the phone with DH, I was right in front of him.

I started a thread last week (or was it earlier this week?? ) specifically asking about laptops and portable DVD players. We are driving to the World for the first time and we were going to be carrying both of these items with us. We are staying at ASMo and I was told that the safe is NOT big enough for either item. With them being electronics, I don't want to leave them in a hot car. Some kind person told me about the larger safe at the front desk to store such items. IF I choose to take them, that's exactly what I'm going to do. I'm not taking ANY chances.

On our trip in Sept I lost my sunglasses on Peter Pan and realized it within a minute of getting off. A CM watched as every ship came past, and there was no sign of my sunglasses. The kicker is they were WDW sunglasses I had to buy on my previous trip because I had left mine at home.

A few days later at MGM, my dd4 had her Stitch doll taken out of her stroller, which was facing a wall, while we were on ToT. We figured that "maybe" a child had taken it out of the stroller and by the time his parent's realized he had it, they had no idea where it came from. We went to lost and found, but no luck. However, we did get some pixie dust out of it as the CM gave us a voucher to get a new Stitch.

I called PORFQ and the CM told me they do have room safes but they aren't big enough for a laptop...anyone stayed there and seen the safes?

I thought I put mine in the safe at CS last year, but I might have just left it in the case. The time before at CB I left it on the table and no one bothered it...and as you said, the maid never even took the tip unless I left her a note.

I stayed at CBR in May 2005; I took my laptop and used a cable lock and hooked it around the leg of the (very heavy) bed. Never had a problem.

Going again Dec 8-13 !

Not that anything was stolen in this case, but our first trip to WDW in Jan. 04 was a little unnerving when we returned to our room our second night at WL at 11 p.m. and found our door open. I assume Mousekeeping had turned the deadbolt to keep the door open, and forgot to unbolt it when she left. Anyone passing the door would have seen it was unlocked, it was very obvious, and I am sure it was that way for several hours. We checked everything and everything looked ok, then I went down to report it at the front desk. They were sympathetic, and asked us if we noticed anything missing. We had not, but we were told to be sure to report anything if later we discovered anything missing. Sometime the next day, they, they left a phone message apologizing for the incident and letting us know that they had the report on file. It was a short stay, so we didn't unpack much, and continued to leave most of our items packed the rest of the trip, although I am sure WL was careful not to leave our door open again.

Mm, maybe not. Pop Century is a LOT newer than Port Orleans.

And to the poster wondering if you need to request a room safe? No - they're built right into the wall (the narrow partition between the dressing/closet area and the sleeping area - NOT the wall between rooms, so nobody can drill into your safe from the next room )

We are fortunate that we haven't lost anything or had anything stolen. Even though we can't lock our luggage on the plane I still have locks on all of the bags so we can lock them at the hotel. Sure the locks aren't foolproof, but they would certainly slow the process for anyone wanting to dig through our bags.

At the library one day a little girl (about 4 or 5) walked up and started digging through my purse. I said "Hi. What are you looking for?" She said "Gum." I said "There isn't any gum in there. I know, because that is MY purse." She yanked her hand out and ran back to her mom. Another mom sitting at the next table said "Do you know her?" I said "Nope." Pretty amazing. The girl's mom never said a word to me. I don't even know if she knew what her daughter had done.

Re: Children as thieves..

I was alone in Florence, Italy for a few days, and I walked out of my hotel onto the street right across from the Duomo. There was a gelato shop beside my hotel where these two older ladies were sitting enjoying their gelatos. I stood there for a moment trying to figure out where I wanted to go. I had heard stories of the gypsy children thieving from tourists, but I had not seen this happen. As I'm standing there, I see two very young children (5 or 6 yrs old) go up to these two ladies. One was holding this newspaper, shoving it into the ladies face, speaking in a foreign language (not Italian) trying to get her to buy this newspaper. The other child was standing to the side, opening the zipper on this lady's purse. I stood there watching this child unzip the purse, and then reach her hand into it to get the wallet. Once her hand was on the wallet I screamed, "You're stealing! STOP!" The little girl looked straight up at me, and I yelled for her to put it back. The two women were clueless on what was happening. I yelled at the lady to grab her purse and that the girls were stealing.

As the girls ran off, they actually turned around and hissed and spit at me. The ladies sitting there were in shock. When the one lady looked up and asked what was happening, I realized that they were also Americans. I told them what the little girls were doing, and how they use this against unsuspecting tourists. I also warned the lady to not keep a pocketbook that was so easily entered, like one with a flap. I told her she needed to keep her purse, flap facing her stomach, on her person the entire time she was outside of her hotel room, and to never sit it beside her, and to not trust ANYONE, even small children.

After this incident, I noticed several older gypsy women following me around and hissing at me. It was crazy.

I learned right there and then that you can't trust anyone, even children. You never know who they're after.

What a sad thread! It seems that more and more these days people think that the "right thing to do" is only "what's right for them" without any regard as to how it effects other people. It's so selfish! And is it just me, or has anyone else seen a lot of selfish and down right mean teenage behavior during Halloween? Sorry, that was a bit off topic....but I literally opened the door on Halloween only to be farted at by an 11 year old sticking his rump in the air! Sorry, really off topic! ...and icky!

Well, I'm thinking that anything taken while Mousekeeping is cleaning a room, could be because they leave the door wide open while they clean and someone can just slip right in the room while the Mousekeeper is busy scrubbing the tub or something. I wouldn't think that Mousekeeping would take anything themselves because they'd lose their job. Well, in any case I'm keeping things either in my backpack, or in the room safe. I'm sorry to all of you who've have something stolen at Disney.

3. The final episode was just last night in our room at Boardwalk. We have been returning nightly in excitement to see how my other daughter's Rock and Roll Minnie would be posed since we bought it on the first day. Yesterday, we posed her on the pillow before leaving for the day only to return with Minnie gone. The mousekeeping manager was wonderful bringing 3+ Minnies for her to choose from and giving her 2 in the end. She was great but i can't help but wonder where Minnie is. Also, a small WDW store bag that typically holds jewlry was stretched open (stapled shut). It only had a miniture mexican flag in it to their dismay.

Initially I was upset with my kids for not being responsible especially the book and hat. But then I was upset that WDW guests and housekeeping were so dishonest. It is a shame this affected our trip.

Yep, my mom and I don't trust any of the maids or anything. We have nothing against them, but nowadays you just have to take sooooo many precautions. So before we go out to the parks we always tend to find a special hiding place in the room for like jewelry or other valuables.

I would take any precaution you would take when you travel anywhere outside of the UK, just like I do when I travel outside the US. I'd keep my passport in a travel bag (the flat kind that goes under your shirt or pants) on my person.

I noticed in Europe that you check your passport at the hotel in many places. You may want to ask front desk, and get it in writing that they are storing them for you.

But don't worry. Have fun.
