Hello Disney Fans,

Any good threads or feedback on what rides my DD (1.5 yrs old for when we are going) will like/dislike at Magic Kingdom?

Any experiences with this age on Carousel of Progress, Haunted Mansion, and Tomorrowland Transit Authority would be great!

Thanks

You should pick up a guidebook like Birnbaum's Disney World for Kids. It explains each attraction and how popular/ suitable it is for kids of various ages.

We took my DS at 16 months old last year...I had been a million times before having him but felt the need to research every last thing about what he would or would not like...and I regret it. It gave me a false sense of what to expect. Be prepared to just "go with the flow"! Rides/attractions that were recommended...he could have cared less...he liked things we would have never dreamed he'd like. The very best thing you can do is clear your schedule and let her go at her own pace. My DS was fascinated by the ropes around lines and the trash cans...it made me crazy but when we gave him enough time to explore on his own he eventually noticed all the other cool things at WDW.

We took him on all the Fantasyland rides and the Pirates of the Caribbean, and assorted others. I think he had more fun just chasing bugs and leaves while we people watched. I'm not trying to discourage you!! No way! Just be prepared to do what she wants to do. We witnessed parents forcing little ones on rides...basically to get "their money's worth" (as I heard one mother say) and I felt so bad for them.

There are multiple web sites devoted to WDW information and you can find lots of advice about specific age friendly rides...there is a "planning with children" section on this site under the WDW tab that I am sure can help!

Good Luck and ENJOY!

We went last Dec when our daughter was 18 months. She loved all the rides, with her favorites being Pirates and Haunted Mansion. Other good ones were the line for Winnie the Pooh, TTA, Railroad, play area next to Splash Mountain, and Jungle Cruise. She does great napping in a stroller so that helped a lot also!

At that age DD went on everything that didn't have a height requirement. Her favorite thing about the entire 10 day trip??? ...the BIRDS!

This is sound advice. At that age, it is far less about attractions than it is about sights, sounds and the wonder of being in a new place. On our first trip to WDW, my daughter was happy as a clam riding in the monorail, splashing in the pool and eating at Chef Mickey's. We went to the MK one day and Epcot for one day, and I can't honestly say that those were her favorite moments. Not that she didn't enjoy them. But she got just as much fun doing neat stuff outside of the parks as in them. So don't burn up too much brain power trying to plot the perfect "ride strategy" for an 18 month old.

Great advice!

I think you'll be fine on Haunted Mansion, TTA, and CoP. It's a Small World should be a hit, along with Poo, peter pan, the train, PotC, Buzz, dumbo, Aladdin, Tiki Room, country bear jamboree, etc. She may not "get" every single attraction, but they're likely to be entertaining and non-threatening enough that she will enjoy her time. Be ready to use the child swap and to work around her sleep schedule. Plan to shop when she passes out in the stroller. Character meet n greets are fun at this age, too. But in general, go with the flow!

DS slept through a lot of our last trip since he was only about 4 months old. This year he will be about 16 months old and I'm curious to see how he will react to everything. What they like and dislike at that age changes so quickly.

In June of this year when we went to the beach he loved everything about the beach and the ocean and when he would start to get tired DH would stand or sit at the edge of the water and DS would be asleep in seconds. Fast forward to last week when we went back to the beach and DS HATED it. We put him down by the water and he cried and tried to get away as fast as he could. Once he got far enough away he played in the sand but then got unhappy again. We tried again later in the trip and it was the same.

He loves Mickey Mouse clubhouse and Pluto is by far his favorite so I'm anxious to find out what he will think of the characters. I've heard kids are afraid sometimes at that age. The plan for rides is to take him with us on anything without a height requirement as long as he's happy. DD and I have a few times planned to do the parks just us while DH and DS hang back at the resort. (This makes DH very happy as he gets tired of the parks fast.)

I say go with the flow and see what he/she is up for. You really won't know until you try. Thankfully DS sleeps great in his stroller so that will be really helpful for us.
