Think like me... (budget challenged guy who wants to give his family a really nice time.)

The resorts with views of MK are GF, Poly, and WL right? (WL being very limited?)

Is it worth the extra money a night to get a MK view?

I booked a standard view at WL a few years ago and I forget the room I was in but they upgraded me at check in for free to a woods view. I could see Cinderella Castle straight across from my balcony. IMO, it was a magical sight every night and I could see the fireworks. But would I pay extra to try and get it? probably not. Depends on the person though and how much you will be in your room. Except for at AKL where I feel it matters, I tend to book standard rooms to save $$ for other things.

We've had both garden view and MK views at both the Polynesian and the GF. There is something magical about seeing the castle changing colors every night and being able to watch the fireworks everynight from your room.

That being said, after a few nights my kids wanted to swim and watch the fireworks from the beach at the Poly, or go down in front of Gasparillas and get an ice cream cone and watch the fireworks with other kids.

So I don't think I would pay for an MK view again. Both the Poly and GF are gorgeous resorts so even if you go with a garden view room it will be magical!

I've done MK view and garden view at the Poly and agree with folks saying how magical it is to see the castle change colors at night when you have the MK view. For us the 'worth' depends on what time of year we go. In the summer, we don't pay for a MK view as we're spending a lot of time at the pool. At Christmas we get the MK view so we can see Christmas Wishes and the New Years Eve fireworks. We spend much more time in our room then.

If you're budget-minded, I would just stick with the garden view. You can always go to one of the Poly's 3 beaches to see the fireworks and the electric water parade...and the castle. :thumbsup2

The magic kingdom views are something really special! I love sitting on my balcony with my hubby :lovestruc after a long day with the kids and hearing the wolves howl from the Haunted mansion, the ferry horns and the chatter from guests on the property and beyond! It makes the end of a long day truly magical~ ;)

To the OP don't forget about the Contemporary's Magic Kingdom view. In fact out of the Resorts to offer the Magic Kingdom view, the one at the Contemporary is the only one where you have a full view of the Magic Kingdom. At the Polynesian and Grand Floridian they are more limited and mostly have a view of Cinderella's Castle. As for the Wilderness Lodge they don't have Magic Kingdom view rooms, however some of their rooms might have a obstructed view. Basically they don't list any rooms with a Magic Kingdom view, like the other Resorts mentioned. Anyway here is a picture of what the Magic Kingdom view from the Contemporary would look like.

We had a MK view at the Contemporary & there was something SO magical about it. Words can't describe it. We had an amazing time, and the view was well worth it in our opinion. We stayed club level at the Poly next visit & really didn't like it at all. After the contemporary MK view, no other rooms can compare.

I stayed at The Poly in November and had an obstructed MK view..This August I got a MK view at The CR and I am so excited about it! The View at The CR of MK is the best! Have a great trip! ;)

No.

Thank you for all of he feedback.

Are there places at the WL where you can walk to see Wishes?

In a word.....YES! I think the difference in price between garden view and MKV is rather small when you consider the price you are already paying to stay at one of the monorail resorts. My heart stops beating for a minute or two when I see the price we'll be paying for the MKV @ CR this August, but there is no way I would pay what they charge for a garden view room. I consider it a small amount for the upgrade :) .

I've had great views of the MK 2x at the Poly but it doesn't stand a chance to the view you get from the Contemporary. The only downside is looking down into the parking area.

Nazran,
While we stay at the Polynesian everytime we go to WDW, we don't need a MK view room to enjoy view. Having dinner or breakfast at 'Ohana, hanging out @ the volcano, Electrical Water Pageant and Wishes, going to and from our room is enough for us. Once we get to our room - I'm shot for the day! We had a MK view during a long weekend and it was awesome at first, but we were not in the room enough to justify the $$$$$ for the room. Sometime in the future when we are going to kick back at the Poly and take a break from the parks it will be a different story...

I had a MK view in the north garden wing of CR a few years back. It was great to watch the fireworks from our room. But since it no longer exists, this is a view you can no longer have at a very reasonable price.

For us, no.

We're going to be at the CR in May and the GF in August and neither of our trips will have a MK view room (unless we're upgraded).

For the CR, we just wanted to be in the tower for easier accessability to the monorail, and we really don't care where we'll be in the GF.

We'll be in the parks during fireworks, and that's the only real advantage I can think of (fireworks on the balcony). But then again, it's nothing I can't see by going outside at night if I weren't at the parks.

I'd rather spend my $$ on souviners, etc.

Got a free upgrade to an MK view at GF, and altho we enjoyed the color changing of the castle at night, it was far away. I'm glad we didn't pay extra for it.

At the Poly, the best view of the fireworks is right at the beach, with cocktail in hand and well out of the way of all those folks crammed onto Main Street! So I wouldn't pay extra for a room view of that either!

To me, ALL the deluxe (and perhaps mods) hotels are overpriced as far as a "normal" hotel goes. I can stay at a "normal" nice hotel anywhere and pay a lot less. Knowing that I"m already paying too much, I don't mind paying a little extra to see the MK view (we plan to do so on our next trip...on our last trip, we paid for water view at YC and could see the Boardwalk and part of EPCOT and Illuminations). We're going to Disney and we know we're paying a premium for it - I like to be reminded of where I am and it seems to make all the pricing more tolerable.

As you can tell from the thread - it's simply personal choice. I'd rather overpay for a nice hotel and see the sights.

Regardless...I can't wait to get back!

Very good point! Why shell out the huge bucks to look at some trees and grass...or a parking lot.

I honestly DON'T like the MK view at the CR tower. To me, it is very UN-magical. What you MOSTLY see is all the plain rooftops/backstage area of Main Street and Tomorrowland. Plus, a big parking lot with lots of cars, and a busy road. It, to me, feels like an office building next to the MK.

From the Poly, it seems more magical, only because you see a castle "far far away" and it's shrouded in mystery (i.e. trees). :lmao: It's more how I want to perceive how the magic kingdom is within our reach, but far enough away that we don't have to see the infrastructure that supports it.

We will have a castle view from our room at the Poly next May. I am very excited!
