We are planning to take DS to Magic Kingdom on his birthday. What would be a fun and decent place to enjoy a birthday lunch for us? Could be table, could be QS - we are OOP so that's not a concern. My thought was The Plaza for lunch and the Mickey Shorts sundae. I've shown him pics of the bowl and he really wants one. Is the food there decent?

He doesn't have character preferences and is a far less picky eater than I am. We will have a cake for him delivered to our room at VGF, so that's not a concern either.

I am not looking for Pixie Dust guarantees....its Disney....just being there is enough pixie dust for us.

TIA

If he is excited about the plaza and the mickey sink sundae then that sounds like a great option. Though (might need to check) you can still get the mickey shorts sundae at the ice cream shop there without having to go to the Plaza.

We love the Plaza!!! the food is surprisingly very good!
i think he is too old for Crystal palace. I just took my 8 year old there, and he was not over the moon about it. he felt he was too old (but humored Mom!)
Of course, Be our Guest is terrific, but a little hectic at breakfast and lunch. I have never been for dinner.
have you seen Early morning magic? it is quite expensive, but looks really neat, and includes breakfast: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/early-morning-magic/
just a thought.

I think you are making the best choice with the Plaza. have fun! :)

The Plaza is so yummy! I love it! Make sure to make as ADR though just because it's a pretty tiny place and I've been there around lunch sometimes when it's been reservations only all day. Have fun and happy birthday to your son!

We don't go until January, 2017.....if they are still doing the Early Morning Magic or it's nighttime partner I definitely would do those.

I have roughly two more months before I can ADR. So of course I'm trying to get things figured out now. DW thinks I'm a nut job. Lol

Do you have dinner plans? It would be great to have lunch at the Plaza, because he is excited about it!!! BOG for dinner has the Beast present for photos. It's not girly like Cinderellas Royal Table, but majestic none the less!!

Happy wishes for a happy 8th birthday celebration!!!!

I've never eaten there, but have read good things about The Plaza and their prices are actually reasonable! It seems to be the lesser known table service at MK, so there is usually plenty of reservations early out.

I was tying to think what my DGD would have liked at 8, or what my little friend, who is 7 would enjoy and both would want the Plaza and that sundae. I know that there are places that are more "elaborate" but my girls would both want something less "formal" and something fun.
