Magic Kingdom Max Capacity?

Does anyone know what the maximum capacity of the Magic Kingdom is? We were there on New Year's Eve and I am curious how many people were in the park. As we were leaving, a cast member told me there were very close to going to a phase 3 closing (only Disney resort guests would be allowed in).

We have been to WDW the past 3 xmas weeks and MK has closed to ALL Guests (including resort guests) sometime that day. We have gone to MGM and Epcot instead.

The Phases are as follows:
-Phase 1 = normal park operation everyone is let in.
-Phase 2 = day guests are no longer allowed in. Resort Guest, CM's going for fun, and AP holders are still let in.
-Phase 3 = CM's and AP holders are no longer let in. Only Resort Guests are let in.
-Phase 4 = No one is let in.

As for the parks maximum capacity, just like attendance numbers these are not given out. They are very secretive about this type of information being told to guests. Also there is no fixed number. The Maximum capacity can change every day. Many factors contribute to deciding what the capacity is for a day. These include the number of attraction operating, the amount of food they have, the number of CM's scheduled, number of attractions running fastpass, etc. For example Small World being closed lowers the parks max capacity. Also the parks capacity decreases as the number of attractions running fastpass increases. This is because Fastpass puts more people back into the park and out of lines, therefore causing a lower park capacity.

The highest number I have ever seen in print is 92,000 for the Magic Kingdom. That was in the Unofficial Guide to WDW 2004 edition.

When the MK is at max capacity, it's a mad house. During our family's trip during Christmas from 12/23-1/2 it was wall-to-wall people in MK, and the other parks weren't as bad but were still full. It was wonderful to be in WDW on Christmas day and New Years Eve, but I will never go there during that week again. I'd go the first two weeks of December when it's not crowded. Max capacity is definatley not cool. I have the same guide debloco just quoted from, too.

Ok heres a # for you. Say the max is 92,000 and say the average ticket is $45. Yes I know that is less than a kids ticket but I'm averaging in AP too.

So let do they math. Thats right that $4,140,000 and thats just in admissions to one park.

Yeah, then add in food, merchandise, etc. Multiply that by four parks and then don't forget about the 20 resort hotels, 2 water parks, Downtown Disney, and multiple golf courses. It really is amazing

Capacity.....not sure, but here was our experience this past Christmas. We were in the MK on Dec. 26 of this year (Christmas day it poured most of the day, so we just hotel hopped). We arrived at the park at 9:15 and left at 1:30 and headed to EPCOT. During this 4 hour 15 minute time, we did Buzz, Space Mountain (FP), the new Philarmagic 3D movie (FP), splash Mountain (FP), and Thunder Mountain Railroad (FP). Our last ride was Splash mountain and when we got off, the MVMCP was in full swing. We walked towards the parade and was met by a sea of humanity. After the parade was over, we did the "shuffle" all the way to basically the hub in front of the Castle. We finally got to the Monorail and headed to EPCOT where the crowds, I thought, were manageable.

So, the week between Christmas/New years seems to be manageable IF you get to any of the parks when it opens (especially the MK) and get out of there around 1:00. Use the fastpass system and you can get on your fav rides.

We arrived on Dec 18 and did all the parks, including Universal and IOA that week with not very big crowds. Great time to go.

We just got back on Sunday, Jan 2. I'm glad I experienced Disney at Christmas. Would I do it again? Probably not, but I did get to do what I wanted as long as we got there before 8:00am. I would go the second week of December once the kids have grown, I loved all the decorations, but the crowds were huge.

The max capacity is privileged information, so no one knows for sure!

I actually wasn't looking for capacity figures, I think the OP was looking for that info, I was just giving my opinion of the crowds that week.

Yes, I would add the clarification that the Unofficial Guide stated that "as many as 92,000" have toured the park on a single day. Sorry about that, I should have been clearer. That is not the same as max capacity. The true max capacity is not known and as another poster explained, it can vary based on the prevailing conditions in the park on any given day.

I don't know how many guests they allow, but after experiencing NYE Day, I say they need to cut it off to a lower number.

My friend said she was there NYE and she was told by a cast member that they had been up to 120,000 people at one point. She said take that with a grain of salt since she couldn't imagine that many people being allowed in there, but then again, who knows.

If I had little ones, my concern would have been at closing, after the midnight fireworks. It was very crowded, as anyone could imagine. Everyone seemed in good spirits and shuffled along shoulder to shoulder, chest to back, as well as they could.
I am not sure anyone could have fallen. But I would be VERY concerned if anyone fell, as they easily could have been trampled. A child much more so than adult. A child others may not even know is on the ground.
Luckily that did not happen. I do not know how enough room could have been made to bend over to pick anyone off the ground.
What really surprised me was Disney did not open more main gate exits. Most of you probably know when you leave the MK, outside the turnstiles, to the left is a little gate opening. Well, that remained a little gate opening.
You can imagine thousands of guests funneling down to this minor gate opening.

I'm curious how you had 4 FPs. I can't imagine on December 26th you were able to get a 4th FP for Splash Mountain, especially not with immediate return availability. Did you have two sets of bands?
